New Mariner of the Seas Cruise Review for 2022!

We have returned from our second sailing on Mariner of the Seas. Our first cruise was in 2018 after the ship was revitalized. ---ROYAL CARIBBEAN MARINER OF THE SEAS CRUISE REVIEW---
Mariner of the Seas is a 138K gross ton ship offering a variety of Bahamas and Caribbean cruises sailing from Port Canaveral, FL.
While recently updated in 2018, Mariner of the Seas does not have the newer Caribbean-inspired pool deck found on other amplified ships. Still, there are two pools and four whirlpools darting the midship pool area. There is also the adults-only solarium. Unlike some other Solariums, this pool area is open to the elements.
On the main sports deck on Mariner of the Seas, you will find many staple Royal Caribbean activities. These include the Perfect Storm waterslides, a Rock Climbing wall, the Sports Court, the Flowrider surf simulator, and a 9-hole mini-golf course, the Mariner Dunes. There is also the Sky Pad, a bungee trampoline experience.
---MARINER OF THE SEAS CRUISE REVIEW: FOOD AND BEVERAGE---
The Mariner of the Seas Main Dining Room is on decks 3, 4, and 5. It was open every day for breakfast and dinner, along with lunch on sea days. Overall, the food met our expectations for a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.
Mariner of the Seas does lack when it comes to casual dining options. There is the Windjammer buffet, the Cafe Promenade, and the Doghouse. There is also the up-charge Playmaker's and Johnny Rockets.
In addition to the complimentary dining, Mariner of the Seas features specialty restaurants. We dined at the cruise line’s signature steak house, Chops Grille. While the meal did take over 2.5 hours, we thought the food was fantastic. At $59 pp, it is a bit pricey though.
The ship also has plenty of bars and lounges. One of our favorite Royal Caribbean bars is the Schooner Bar, home to two of our favorite martinis, the Lavender Daiquiri and Sidecar. Another one of my favorite bars on Mariner of the Seas is the Bamboo Room. The tiki drinks, like the Royal Zombie or the On the Run, are fun and equally tasty.
Our June 2022 sailing on Mariner of the Seas felt like one of the busiest cruises that we have been on since the restart. Still, the service on the ship was timely and friendly, especially our wait team in the MDR.
---MARINER OF THE SEAS CRUISE REVIEW: ENTERTAINMENT---
We often rave about the signature entertainment on Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Sadly, Mariner of the Seas' four main theater shows did not live up to this reputation. In our opinion, the best performance of the cruise was the Studio B ice show, Ice Under the Big Top.
While the signature entertainment was a bit disappointing, Mariner of the Seas did have many of the typical cruise ship activities that are always a good time. These included trivia and game shows, dance classes, the sexiest man and belly flop contests by the pool, as well as ice skating and laser tag in Studio B.
Many of the bars and lounges also featured live music. Our two favorite hangouts were the Schooner Bar and the Barnacle and Barrel pub, as the musicians were fantastic. The Royal Caribbean parties are back as well. These included the 70's and 80's parties in the Promenade and the Hush Silent Disco.

My favourite areas on a cruise ship are the bars and lounges with particular focus on live music venues like piano bars. I (mostly) eschew the buffet and main theatre, (except for educational presentations), and prefer to eat in the MDRs.

I’m going in august with my family (I’ll be 17). I’ve been on allure in 2019 when I was 13 and I liked the size of it and I was supposed to go on harmony in 2020 but obviously I never went and harmony and wonder are all sold out for the dates we want and mariner is the only option for this summer. Definitely a downgrade from my past cruises and I haven’t even been on a cruise since I was 13

We have been on Mariner twice (both pre covid) and are sailing on her August and October of this year. The biggest difference I have experienced between Voyager/Freedom and Oasis classes is quality of entertainment. The Oasis class ships are an order of magnitude better. These older/'smaller' ships (Mariner is an enormous ship by most measures except comparison to an Oasis class) are great and can also be a tremendous value compared to newer ships. Bar quality and service has been better in my experience on Voyager/Freedom class ships. Give it a try, it is a great vacation.

I just recently sailed on the Harmony of the Seas. I have always wanted to go on a smaller ship but my mom is scared that the smaller ships will tend to rock more. Do smaller ships than the Oasis Class rock more?

Of course you will feel the ocean more on a smaller ship, but this ship really isn’t that small. I think you will be fine (but yes it may be me rougher than harmony). Bring Dramamine and get a stateroom in the lower middle part of the ship if you want to lower the affects.

Many of the drinks are included but some are above the drink allotment. For those drinks you need to pay the difference over $13 plus 18% service charge.

It’s not a separate venue. The cafe and pizza place are combined. But there is pizza.

Yes, this ship offers plenty for kids. If you are looking for a short cruise, it’s sister ship Freedom of the Seas is also a good choice.

Our grandkids are seasoned cruisers who will be Emerald level after our Dec cruise. We have been on most level ships and the kids always have a great time. We can't get them out of the Adventure Ocean because they have such a good time. We are actually dropping back to the Mariner ship because we have found the larger ships just too crowded. Plus the Diamond Lounge on the Oasis class ships has been buried on Deck 4. We choose RCCL ships exclusively for the 4 grandkids.
