I think you're thinking of the Werther's Original butterscotch candies. They are square I think? I tried to get one of these from my local McDonald's today and of course the ice cream machine wasn't working so I couldn't try it. Maybe I'll try to find a different McDonald's tomorrow and see if I can get one because it sounds good.
