@@TomsCoffeeCorner I think I would be way happier with this machine than many others I've looked at, if it was just features. As an aside, WDT when done right can be kinda OK. For me, I can see what every puck extraction I do has achieved and how well a WDT tool worked. The best WDT I have achieved that does give an even ground distribution with little fines settling at the bottom is with the Bomber spinny needles followed by briefly using the same company's regular WDT tool with the needles on their widest setting. An interesting concept but I have issues with the built quality so far. I don't know how the actual product would look and feel but at an MSRP of 1800 USD I'd expect higher quality. There is much discussion about this machine in the Meraki group at moment and your video helped me make up my mind for KS. I dont know if you will comment on this post about what you feel about the build quality being plastic. At this price point i want to understand if it feels like a good quality plastic. Also can you do any comment on pressure settings/valves if you found any ?

Dual Boiler is a sweet machine, I agree.
@krnl3865 ай бұрын
Great overview! I’m a bit surprised/disappointed that you had to essentially manually dial in the beans despite having the fancy RFID sticker on the bag… my expectation would have been for the machine to auto-load and adjust the grind setting for you, so all you have to do, essentially is to scan the bag, pour it into the hopper, hit grind, transfer to portafilter, puck prep, lock in, hit brew and you’re done. Shot timing, water temp, pressure/flow (if the machine can control these) should all come preloaded from the bag RFID chip. Otherwise this is just a gimmick… Second is the idea of dual boiler… can you pull a shot and steam at the same time? If not, then the added maintenance and energy inefficiency of a dual boiler setup may not be worth it. Honestly, given the price point of this machine, I’d much rather go with the new Breville Oracle Jet than this plasticky thing… Not impressed, TBH.

@@Andril190 I agree - it seems gimmicky to me. you know my thought is that at 1700 MSRP its fine, i mean it literally comes with everything....except a WDT ...... as you mentioend.........so I mean no other solution is out there near that when considering dual boiler, dual scales, pitcher, ...... and a grinder that can grind too fine..........BUT and its a biggie, the plastic is something that helped them price wise and my thought is that if you worked on this machine you would enjoy it ..... its the new design thing....a bit cold and uninviting, touch screens et.c, and all is well, but then if you turned around to a more traditional layout......rocket and mazzer or whatever, you will immediately notice the quality of the system from the outside.....and you know a big part of coffee making is the whole thing end to end......and I think the plastic nature of things will work against them...........love how heavy it was too....btw.....it did not move when you locked in the PF.

They are new, yes. But to me, they seem to be a serious company. They take feedback and adjust accordingly. But to be honest, I've never bought anything from Kickstarter, so I cannot really give an opinion on that.

Really cool machine as I was thinking of getting Timemore 078S and pair it with Ascaso UNO PID. Meraki is co-engineering with Timemore after all. Though I must ask, how long does it take to heat up the machine after starting it? Reason why I'm asking is because Ascaso UNO PID uses Thermocoil heating and not boiler, which makes it able to make an espresso as soon as I start the machine.

I think it's quite expensive. You could probably get a better grinder and espresso machine combo for cheaper, but given that they have designed it nicely, and have that nice steam wand, and scale, and easy to use screen, I'd say it's priced about right. But if they don't fix the handle and the flaccid steam wand and the tiny back button, I'd say I wouldn't buy it for myself. Maybe version 2.

What on earth does an “organic review” mean?
@TomsCoffeeCorner5 ай бұрын
Good question. It means that they send me the machine, no strings attached besides making a video. I can say what I want. There's also "sponsored content", which means that they send the machine, AND pay for the review. But then you traditionally have to adhere to their selling points, send them a script, yada yada yada. I've never done such a review. Cheers!

I don't really know who this is for. Casual coffee drikers will use a fully automatic or nespresso machine. Enthusiasts who want to use a portafilter machine, do puck prep and grind their own coffee will probably want to freely chose a good grinder and machine and don't be stuck with a rather expensive all in one machine.
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 ай бұрын
I kind of think you're right. But this is a dual boiler anyway, so that's a very nice advantage. But yes, I feel like enthusiasts will want a separate grinder from the machine.
