I know some of you are curious about the build quality, which I intend to touch in in the follow up video. It is by the way a mixture of stainless steel, aluminum, and ABS plastic. But, what other questions to you have? Write them here, please. Edit: the dimensions are 375mm wide, 375mm deep, and 320mm tall (without the screen). Considering the screen, it is about 420 mm tall. The machine weighs 15 kg.

I’m pretty wary of a new brand I’ve never heard of, but I’m glad someone is attempting to innovate. All of the established European espresso machine companies are asleep at the wheel. Love the built in brew scale that enables stopping the brew at the desired output automatically, and love that it has a rotary pump. You shouldn’t have to buy $3000+ machines to get these features.

Yes, I concur. It's a pretty sweet machine. I am really enjoying the dual scale features, and I wish this was installed on every machine. Mine is a pre-production model, so I am thinking that they will iron out the remaining issues before launching the series product.

Brilliant review. Loved the changes of hairstyle. wow no annoying clicking sounds, a nice steamer with integrated thermometer, Timemore conical burr grinder with dosing scale to measure output. Feature wise very nice. Seems like they know coffee. I am not a fan of spinny levelers like that, and have no need for an anti-static device on my grinders. I have my own methods for all of that, but that is a whole different story.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner I think I would be way happier with this machine than many others I've looked at, if it was just features. As an aside, WDT when done right can be kinda OK. For me, I can see what every puck extraction I do has achieved and how well a WDT tool worked. The best WDT I have achieved that does give an even ground distribution with little fines settling at the bottom is with the Bomber spinny needles followed by briefly using the same company's regular WDT tool with the needles on their widest setting. Will refrain from explaining why as this is already too long.

An interesting concept but I have issues with the built quality so far. I don't know how the actual product would look and feel but at an MSRP of 1800 USD I'd expect higher quality. Also the same problem as with the Ninja Luxe, the integrated grinder is a great idea but only if it can be easily serviced and replaced if needed. At least the burrs can be replaced easily that's a good thing. I generally like the concept but there's a few things to be improved.

That smaller top drip tray looks really wobbly/fiddly and that grinder looks even smaller than the cone burr on my old barista express. That said, having a scale for both and a built in steam thermometer already elevates this quite a bit. One thing (that I might have missed), is it a 58mm portafilter? Given how shoddy that plastic was, that'd be my first upgrade to it.

There is much discussion about this machine in the Meraki group at moment and your video helped me make up my mind for KS. I dont know if you will comment on this post about what you feel about the build quality being plastic. At this price point i want to understand if it feels like a good quality plastic. Also can you do any comment on pressure settings/valves if you found any ?

Unknown brand from China for the price of Sage Dual Boiler + Smart Grinder Pro? For 999, there is a small chance people would consider this over well known "the Barista Touch" for simplified workflow and probably more stable temperature(questionable at the moment), but at a price point of Dual Boiler, for me Dual Boiler would be an obvious choice.

Dual Boiler is a sweet machine, I agree.

Great overview! I’m a bit surprised/disappointed that you had to essentially manually dial in the beans despite having the fancy RFID sticker on the bag… my expectation would have been for the machine to auto-load and adjust the grind setting for you, so all you have to do, essentially is to scan the bag, pour it into the hopper, hit grind, transfer to portafilter, puck prep, lock in, hit brew and you’re done. Shot timing, water temp, pressure/flow (if the machine can control these) should all come preloaded from the bag RFID chip. Otherwise this is just a gimmick… Second is the idea of dual boiler… can you pull a shot and steam at the same time? If not, then the added maintenance and energy inefficiency of a dual boiler setup may not be worth it. Honestly, given the price point of this machine, I’d much rather go with the new Breville Oracle Jet than this plasticky thing… Not impressed, TBH.

It's trying (and failing) to be the xBloom of espresso
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 5 ай бұрын
Well, I'll be honest. I started grinding on the finest end of the scale, because my contact at Meraki said that the grinders were set a little too coarse. But that was not the case, as I ended up right around the middle of the grinding range. Anyway, I am not sure the Oracle Jet is going to be a dual boiler. If I remember right, they use the second ThermoJet for heating the brew group.

RFID for to set grind settings doesn't make sense as they're are too many variables. Age of the beans, humidity etc. Temperature maybe. Perhaps it already does that?

@@mhaagmans1 The xBloom managed it, although I can definitely understand how it should be much harder to translate to espresso. I think the entire thing is a gimmick and they should've skipped it if they couldn't make it work

@@Andril190 I agree - it seems gimmicky to me. Also @mhaagmans1 raises a good point in an earlier comment regarding the variables involved in espresso extraction and encoding the grind size on the RFID chip. Having said this, I still think the machine could at least include a grinder range (given that all Meraki grinders are the same), and maybe auto-set the grinder somewhere in the middle of said range to at least get you started on the dial-in process.

Thanks for the teaser, machine seems to be pretty interesting! ^^ But I am kinda worried about network security/privacy since it is a machine that uses WiFi. Is it requiring you to do WiFi or is it just an optional thing for stuff like software updates or recepies via an app/web-app? Cuz this may break the deal for a lot of people... Including me, tho I am not interested in the first place outside of seeing how the market is changing.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner sure but even if we assume the device would last it’s warranty and suddenly that single piece stops functioning, there is no repairability to it by the user and it just becomes a €1700 electronic waste, while a physical button, switch would be a more simple fix. An even better solution, for this high end version, would be for them to make this piece replaceable by using a contact system that allows to easily swap it with a new acquired part from their store.

Really cool machine as I was thinking of getting Timemore 078S and pair it with Ascaso UNO PID. Meraki is co-engineering with Timemore after all. Though I must ask, how long does it take to heat up the machine after starting it? Reason why I'm asking is because Ascaso UNO PID uses Thermocoil heating and not boiler, which makes it able to make an espresso as soon as I start the machine.

I think it's quite expensive. You could probably get a better grinder and espresso machine combo for cheaper, but given that they have designed it nicely, and have that nice steam wand, and scale, and easy to use screen, I'd say it's priced about right. But if they don't fix the handle and the flaccid steam wand and the tiny back button, I'd say I wouldn't buy it for myself. Maybe version 2.
