Hands down the most brutally honest review of a new product model in front of the product manager that I've ever seen. With the last gen C63, Merc was clearly looking to go head-to-head with the M3. Perhaps they discovered M3 buyers weren't seriously cross-shopping the C63, and the car was too 'track focused' for the legacy C-Class buyers. So they switched back to the tried-and-true formula of "Our car makes more power". As noted by many others, most buyers won't even realize they're hauling around 300+ extra kilos.

That's exactly my thought, there will be loads of buyers, but they will never use it's potential. Another missed opportunity for AMG was to ditch the batteries all together and use lighter supercapacitors, which would reduce the weight by a 100kgs at least.

I don't believe that, the V8 was a huge selling point for the C63. In the UK market at least the previous one sold like hot buns despite being hardly any faster and costing a lot more money than an M3. AMG buyers were willing to pay the premium for the engine. The typical AMG buyer is very different from the buyers of A45s which are the same guys who were buying Audi RS3s before and probably owned something like an Astra VXR before that. They are not the same people who buy the full fat AMGs and they will not be buying this (if nothing else because they simply can't afford it).

Over 10 years ago I left the M Car brand and went with a W204 C63. The power of the engine and most importantly the noise that car made instantly sold me. So for basically will be a $100K C-Class when optioned nicely, you get a tuned C43 motor. An electric engine in the rear (have fun owning that when you are out of warranty) and a slightly wider front track. Good job by Matt on flaming the product manager, as MB really destroyed the allure their customers had to this car. Anyone else notice no clip of the exhaust sound? I wonder why...

@@fzr1000981 174K+ Miles with the old style head bolts and no issues. I have a tune, CF air box and X-pipe deleting the 2nd cats. All mods were done when had less then 5K miles on the car. I had the expected stuff go wrong ABS control module, worn pullies, brakes, tires. The only thing I recently did preventive was replace the fuel injectors to and old one sticking open and hydro-locking a cylinder. Obviously oil changes with Mobil 1 5W-40 combined with Ceratec, trans and diff service.
