You are like a breath of fresh air (and in Oregon w/the fires that means something : ) Nothing & mean nothing has *motivated me to declutter my closet/clothes until your video.* I really like Dawn's last two video's of helping the lady with 9 boys and your video, it's so raw - exactly what I am experiencing and how to plow through with a method that will work for me. I kind of didn't get Dawn when she decluttered her clothes but I understand you. And WOW you kept only 100 items total, congratu- lations :-D *Thank you for sharing your method and what you actually kept ie 3 of this, 3 of that. I think I can this now, again - thank you Natalie.*

Between you and your last capsule wardrobe video and that video of Dawns where she explains making yourself a uniform, I'm now at the first time in my entire life where I actually love and regularly wear everything hanging in my wardrobe and it is utterly life changing. I don't need to think about what I'm going to wear anymore. It takes me seconds to get dressed in a morning. I don't have to fight with a thousands things that aren't quite right. I feel confident and comfortable in my outfits literally everyday. And tidying up after doing laundry is a breeze. That comment "I deserve to have clothes that fit me *now*" that Dawn made in that video really stuck with me too and also something you said about only having things in your wardrobe that fit the chapter of your life that you're in right now. Such good advice. Thank you so much. ❤

💛 This helped me realize I truly don’t have that much clothing! I think the amount I have now is comparable to what you have now. I’ve slowly been getting rid of things as I realize a ton of the trendy stuff really doesn’t suit me. I’m still so unhappy with my wardrobe sometimes, but I think it’s mainly because I don’t actually have a real closet right now and no money to fill in the gaps I’m feeling in my wardrobe. That’s okay. This is the season I’m in, and this helped me realize that it’s nothing wrong that I’m doing! This did make me want to go back through it all though and be honest about what I’m not going to wear. 🤨

I pulled everything out of my room while i was renovating. When it was all complete, and became time to start pulling things back into the room, there was just a lot of old stuff i did not want to display in my new clean space. I didn't want old clothes stored in my new closet/dresser. I brought things in piece by piece and sold what was leftover at a garage sale.. that i actually replaced what it cost to do the flooring. :D I love starting a major declutter with a completely blank canvas!

I have trouble decluttering my wardrobe not because of body changes but because of money. I grew up with 2 siblings and a single mum, so money was always an issue. As soon as I earned my own money I kinda became addicted to shopping. Now I battle this on and off. Sometimes I can get rid of so much and feel more free. Sometimes I fall back into buying clothes just to have more. Your videos always help me to question my actions and clean my mind a bit so I can clean my stuff and feel more free again. Oh Natalie! I was cheering so hard for you when you were trying to make the decision about the tote under your bed. My advice would have been ‘make the container (closet/dresser) the bad guy’. Make that container your only clothing storage. You were able to just let them go! I also agree with you keeping that small container of ‘just in case’. I’m kind of calling mine a quarantine bin…knowing I’ll probably purge it later, but I’m not going to beat myself up if that is still there six months from now. Seasons and sizes change! Fitting everything in your closet will feel so good long-term! I’m like you - I can’t stand having those totes hanging over my head or hiding under the bed!!! 😉💖 You have been an inspiration to me! I’ve only been on this journey for a few months… And I have 30 years of marriage that has been sentimentally (hoarded) stored throughout my house. I have gone through slowly and done it in layers like Dawn discussed. I’m getting ready to tackle the attic… The last frontier lol! I do believe there will be a lot of emotions though. Totes of holiday Decor and children’s toys and keepsakes. As a teacher I’ve claimed this summer as the year I take my house back - With the help of my KZbin friends! Lol Thanks so much for your content! Blessings to you!

This video really spoke to me because before I even watched it, I was thinking, "I don't really need to declutter my closet, except there's all those clothes that don't fit since all the staying at home during 2020... I can't get rid of those, I'm going to lose weight and get back into them! What if I miss them when I'm back that size?" BUT, this video gave me the push I needed to remember and accept that I can always buy clothes in a smaller size *if* I need them, when I need them. And right now they're not doing any good taking up space and making me feel bad knowing they're there. I know this video is a few weeks old,, but thank you Natalie, for this push that I needed today! When you mentioned that the clothes in your closet that don't fit are mocking you, I absolutely could relate to the feeling! A mindset shift that I've worked on over the years is thinking about how clothes are made to fit me and I am not made to fit my clothes. In addition to that, considering that your chronic illness called for smaller clothing - what an act of love to honor the healthy body you have now.

💖💛 I love the minimal mom and she is how I found your channel! I agree that her method works really well. I personally am still struggling to balance the seasonal clothes but now I try to just have winter/fall and then summer/spring as I am in Canada. I loved how you said it feels like my closet can breathe! That is how I feel now that I have gotten my clothes down to a good amount for me. My struggle also is changing in weight - this past year I had to teach from home instead of being on my feet in the classroom and not moving as much everyday really changed my body and sadly impacted my wardrobe which made trying on clothes from last summer not as fun. But instead of holding on I let go of many pieces and said why bother feeling disappointed every time! We all deserve to feel happy and brighter in our clothes every day ❤️

Hi Natalie, thank you so much for your lovely and very encouraging video. I recently decluttered my wardrobe. I am living in an area where we have four seasons, so a lttle bit comparable to your area. I managed to put clothes which didn't fit anymore into boxes to store them in the garage. I then kept only a capsule wardrobe which I am going to wear now in the summer time. Your video gave me lots of courage to tackle the stored summer items again. I thought I might store them for next summer, but many of the clothes fitted when I was weighing much too less. They are many skirts and dresses and they are connected with a toxic relationship. In that time I was only 56 kg but I am 1,78 you see. That was a very unhealthy time for me. Thanks for sharing your experiences and emotions. Your video really opened my eyes that 1st I don't have to cling to clothes which were connected with a sad time, 2nd that other women could love and enjoy them better then me because they are just very fine pieces. Thanks a million Natalie for bringing me a bit further an my journey to a more healthy life. God bless you and take care Love from North Germany

My family has been practicing minimalism for eight years, and I've found practicing other methods of decluttering to be extremely helpful. Asking new questions, looking at my things from different perspectives, it helps me continue to pare down. It started with my wardrobe and now we have what many consider extremely minimal for a family of six but feels restful and manageable to us.

There’s something about your clothing videos that just get to me more than any other minimalist clothing videos. It’s the hardest area to do decluttering for me. I’m the same size as I’ve always been and I find it so hard to let go of perfectly good clothes that still do fit. I almost wish more just didn’t fit! But I’ve got this video on repeat as I go along and it is helping!

💛I understand about the difficulties with getting ill from foods. I’ve been healing from Lyme’s disease for about 6 years. My Jesus is so precious to me because of His presence during this time. There was a year I could only tolerate 3 foods and it was scary and painful to go through that, but The Lord is so good, sovereign, and He was right there with me through all of it. The Lord has blessed you Natalie and you are a blessing to me. I am so much more healthy, and even though there are struggles, I am encouraged. It is so comforting to hear your faith shine through .

Thank you for your kind sharing ~ such honesty and openness. You are kind both to yourself and to all of us. Being real about our changing needs comes as we all move forward in life. So great not to be stuck! And you are definitely NOT stuck! Good for you, Natalie! Am cheering you on. 🤩

Hi N! I started following you as we have similar approach to certain things and it's nice to see other's people ideas on organising and what we can do different or better. I was in similar situation with my health after pregnancy, things have been bad however last summer I told myself, if I can't wear my clothes till next summer I am getting rid of it because I couldn't wear them last 3 years....and then my doctor recommended diet and 3 months after puf, I lost 15kg and I fit everything! I am soooo grateful that I kept all my old stuff as my style is classic and my taste haven't changed and now I don't need to give bunch of money for new clothes. Every journey is different and this is just small example of when not getting rid of stuff is good. My approach is generally, if we don't use something, it has to go, but this was exception 😊

So that video from Dawn the Minimal Mom - I had watched her video FOUR times, and then had it playing in the background as I did a Declutter several months ago. The fact that you did a declutter based on her video means the world to me. In fact I began tearing up when you talked about the emotions associated with your clothing and how letting things go was almost a spiritual journey for you. 💖 I’ve had 4 kids and am 1 year postpartum right now and my weight has fluctuated all over the place. I’ve been thrifting secondhand items because *nothing* I had was fitting and I felt so discouraged, but resolved to try and find my personal style with getting thrifted items. But it resulted in me having way too much and I was storing it in bins, too stressed to go through my old clothes, the thrifted ones that I wound up not liking and storing, the too big clothes, the pregnancy clothes, and my seasonal/winter clothes. So. Many. Bins. I wanted to let you know that right when you began pulling things out onto the bed to declutter, I quickly began pulling out my bins to do it alongside you! I condensed everything down to just one small pregnancy bin *in case* that consists only of things I loved during pregnancy; and one larger bin of tops, skirts, trousers/pants and colder weather items that I don’t want hanging in my closet right now (I don’t have a dresser space). I even drastically cut down on my shoes. So thank you for helping me tackle this huge source of stress for me! I was feeling so bad about having spend money of thrifted things but having not liked them, and tucked it away in a bin instead. Facing it is really helpful. I feel like my closet can breath now. It’s such a relief.

This was truly beautiful to watch. And you are right, it is a “heart” issue. It’s easy from the outside to look at you and see how beautiful you are and think you never struggled with body image, but it’s also unfair to you and what you have gone through. You said that these clothes are just textiles we cover our body with, but also, these bodies are just skin and bone that we cover our souls with and I think that your soul is beautiful.

When going thru divorce my bestie used the 100 method. She kept 100 things in her kitchen,100 items in the garage, 100 bks & CDs & DVDs, 100 items in clothes closet,100 items in attic storage (kids momentos, photos, & decorations),100 items in utility room & hall closets. I helped her go thru stuff because I wasn't sentimentally attached to her belongings. We got rid of sooo much in one 3 day wknd. She was so happy. She even downsized her home, moving from 4 bdrm house to 3 bdrm condo. She now raves about the 100 method & how lighter her emotions are. 🙂

I’m decluttering my entire hone atm. I get so much anxiety thinking about and seeing/finding all that stuff everyday 🙈 There’s literally nothing in my home I couldn’t live without. I just need my loved ones 🥰

💛 I really enjoyed this. Sometimes these big decluttering jobs bring up a lot of emotions. With the reverse decluttering of clothes I think of it as if I was going on a trip for a season, what items would I want with me in one big suitcase. My wardrobe is very minimal now, fits on about 28 hangers + socks, under things, pjs and activewear that all fit in one drawer of the dresser I share with my husband. I’m starting to notice wear more with fewer pieces but most often discard a piece without replacing now. I’m considering investing in 10 great pieces at once this fall for a more thorough wardrobe refresh since I’d like to present myself better. For now, I’m wearing stuff that looks okay and keeps me cool through the summer because comfort is becoming a bigger consideration as the years go by. I appreciate your take on minimalism.

Great video! Thanks for sharing the whole process and commenting on the emotional aspects of decluttering clothing. I really enjoy both your channel and Dawn’s, so this was a treat. I appreciate that the content is motivational as well as practical and understanding. We’re not always feeling ready to tackle these projects but it’s helpful to try different approaches and it’s so satisfying to reap the rewards of that effort in the form of a more orderly, attractive, functional space in your home.

This is Katrina on my husband's tablet he prefers my iPad. Totally understand clothes not fitting. I lost 100lbs 2 years ago ,but I loved getting rid of bigger clothes ,2 years later I'm still 100lbs down. I could go another size down but am happy where I am. Australian size 8/10 instead of size 20/22. It's so freeing when everything in your wardrobe fits and I wear all my clothes on rotation. 3 of each basically so not too much. Enjoyed this video.

💛 I filled a box with clothing that has been hanging in my laundry room (my former closet) while I watched you!!! Most of the clothes had been hanging, unworn for over a year. Thank you for sharing this journey with us!

💛 Will definitely be implementing a small “maybe” pile instead of my current large “someday may fit” pile. It’s time to just keep what works now.

Processing the feelings is HUGE with all decluttering decisions and especially clothes. You nailed it! 👍❤️ I like this concept of choosing what’s working, kind of like pulling out a mini wardrobe for a trip.

I sure understand chronic illness. It's so hard when everything you do takes soo much out of you! I have fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis etc. and having energy is a really big struggle for me. 💞
@asteria53823 жыл бұрын
This is 100% a spiritual process, because as much as yes it is just clothes, it isn't. Things we own, things we use, things that share our space...It all ends up carrying energies, memories, and attachments, so it is perfectly valid to be sad about letting it go, but it is such a therapeutic release when you get rid of it. I have struggled with an ED for a good part of my life and it took me over a decade to finally let go of the clothes I used to wear and it was so hard. But you're absolutely right: You are in a healthier, better place and it's important to remember that you deserve clothing that doesn't have those negative attachments to them.

This is the first video of yours that I have seen. I am now following. I've had several surgeries in the last 7 years so clothing has been a struggle. I love heels and such but it no longer serves my soul. I think I'm ready to do this process after watching you share bits of your story and process. Thank you so very much.

Sweet Natalie, thank you so much for being so open in this video about your journey. I have been struggling with my health/weight for sometime and I too have struggled with getting rid of things I would love to get back to, but reality is my body has changed from having another baby, and just health reasons. This video was exactly what I needed to motivate me to LET IT GO. Again thank you so much.

I hear you about all the emotions that come up when decluttering. I let myself feel it because it helps to acknowledge it and then I can let go. After that stuff is gone I always feel relief and move on. So glad your health is feeling better. :)

Someone that "hates" clothes shopping to! 🤗. So true about Suff hidden Seasonal bins are killers... I never have them.. I have everything in my wardrobe.. I have one shelf with my winter and skiing coats with gloves, scarfs, etc..eg for lower than - 10c I have a shelf for swimming, shorts, etc for really hot eg up to +40c. So I have 2 shelves for "extreme" weather clothes. The rest of my wardrobe is stuff I can wear all year around.. Because I use the "onion" approach for most clothes..." If warm less layers, if cold more layers." I decluttered all my expensive pre-kid shoes.. My feet grew a size and have never gone back. It hurt.. I think all women struggled with loosing their former bodies after different life phases eg kids, menapause. Well done Natalie👏!... Love the "healing" music choice 🤗
