Holy crap! What an awesome elk hunting video. Thank you so much for going through the struggles it takes to film all of those elk encounters.

Excellent video Gentleman. So close so many times. Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Really enjoyed watching it! My guess is you’ll get it done next time, but the way I saw it, it was a very successful trip anyway!!! Thanks again!

Just watched this video today. Man!!!! What a heck of a hunt. Thank you for keeping it real though. So many channels do t want to post unless you tag out and that’s just not real life. I loved the scene when the 4 elk came in at 3 yards and all you can do is sit there. Been there, done that. It’s miserable. But it was an awesome video.

I had to laugh at the 28:50 minute mark when you asked if he had any spare oxygen. Up until this point in the video I was thinking that was some of the easiest, open, rolling hills elk country I’ve ever seen! Having hunted elk in Idaho, Montana and Colorado I’ve never seen such “gentle” elk country 😂😂
@splitriverbrosoutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Not going to say it was the steepest country we have been in either but when you are at 10,000ft, consistently dropping at least 1000ft and climbing back up daily we wouldn’t classify it as easy. Also any physical activity is going to be more difficult at that elevation.
@glend47043 жыл бұрын
@@splitriverbrosoutdoors yes I know, I’ve hunted at 12,000 before in Colorado. It can get to you. It really didn’t bother me much, but my hunting partner was sick a few days at first from the elevation.

Another great hunt. You guys have a lot of patience. Great he didn't take the long shot. He would have felt a lot worse if he wounded and the bull would have gotten away. The young 4 pointer one off the start would have tasted great but guess you guys are going for trophies uh? Do what generations of hunters did before all these diff scents and sprays came out. You are in the middle of the rut, wallow around in the urine of the bull. What does it matter how you smell? At least you won't have to worry about the wind. And the urine does was off. Lol. My 2 cents. But will be waiting for your next video.
@splitriverbrosoutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily going for trophies but when we were only a few hours into the first day of hunting an area we never had been too we didn’t know the exact caliber of elk in there. Hind sight, yeah maybe we should have taken the shot but we also would have never had the experiences we got have the rest of the week if we had filled 3 hours into the first day.

There's a new product out called poof, and it is an older eliminator. I wondered if you sprayed your clothes down with that is that would stop you're sent? On TV the advertising stops ammonia and skunk smell just buy one squirt are the bottle so I am wondering in my mind if I carry that along with camp and then at night time when I go to bed spray my clothes down with it and then the next morning spray down again or spray my clothes down that I wear put them in a plastic bag so others since won't bother it can use fresh clothes each day question mark I don't know. But I am sharing that with you as a tidbit, that might help, and give us the edge we need.

They’re NOT going to tell you what unit. Obviously it wasn’t in the Gila or there would’ve been way more big elk and the terrain would’ve been much different.
@marchaberern23312 жыл бұрын
100 yards isn’t bad, just know what your distance for shot is and do it. That 4x4 would’ve been on the ground! We’re you trophy hunting or meat hunting?
@splitriverbrosoutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Hindsight yeah maybe a shot should have been taken at the 4x4 but 4-5 hours hours into opening day and seeing a really nice bull just prior it was tough to pull the trigger on him. Just thought we could possibly get something a little nicer, but we were not trophy hunting by any means.

70 yards is TOO FAR!! On an animal. I regularly practice out to 100 yards but my maximum hunting distance is 40 yards! Too much can go wrong on longer shots, the animal can move, your arrow has way less energy ..
@splitriverbrosoutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Felt comfortable with the shot so the shot was taken. We are glad you know your maximum range but it is ok to let others make their own judgment especially when you don’t know their ability or equipment.
@glend47043 жыл бұрын
@@splitriverbrosoutdoors being as nice as possible here with this comment, but you completely missed by at least 12-16 inches so I would say the equipment and ability weren’t up for that shot. Shooting at dots with no excitement in your body is way different than shooting at an animal. I’m just thankful it was a clean miss!!! A marginal shot would still be haunting you to this day, at least it should.
@Jay-ur3dq3 жыл бұрын
When you miss by a foot and a half, it was clearly outside your ability.

@@Jay-ur3dq exactly!! Shooting in your back yard is much different than shooting at an animal
@glend47043 жыл бұрын
“I should’ve probably left one fly when he was at 78”…. Really??? That’s twice as far as you should be shooting at an animal!! I’ve killed elk, deer, bear, caribou and turkeys with my bow and the furthest I’ve ever shot at an animal was 27 yards. It’s bow hunting, it’s supposed to be up close and personal.
