This video provides a rare look at some of the techniques used by law enforcement in identifying and interdicting interstate drug traffickers.
On January 13, 2018, Officer Hermilo Lucero was conducting patrol operations near the City of Grants, New Mexico. While traveling eastbound on I-40, he came upon a White Chevy 4-door passenger vehicle which he paced at 80 mph in a 75 mph zone. He initiated a traffic stop, and as the vehicle came to a stop Officer Lucero observed a front passenger sit up in the seat.
Upon making contact with the vehicle's occupants Officer Lucero observed a dog in the back seat as well as a duffel bag. Officer Lucero stated that he usually has subjects stand by his front passenger-side tire during traffic stops, but due to the extreme cold he conducted a pat down of the driver - later identified as Eric Vredenburgh - and then had him sit in the front passenger seat of his police car.
While making conversation with the driver Officer Lucero observed him to be uncharacteristically nervous: "he had shallowed breathing, he had a dead stare out the front windshield, [was] chewing his gum very rapidly, avoided eye contact, and became very talkative."
The following selections are excerpted from Officer Lucero's report: "During our conversation while I was conducting business, Mr. Vredenburgh was really nervous, every time I asked a question of concern he would rub his face, twist his mustache, attempt to change the subject)."
"At this time I advised Mr. Vredenburgh he was free to leave to have a good day and a safe trip. At this time Mr. Vredenburgh exited my vehicle and started walking back to his vehicle. At this time I had observed several criminal behaviors and items of interest of criminal activity. These items of interests are as follows:
1. My training and experience.
2. Coming from Portland, Oregon. (This city is known for receiving/shipping illegal narcotics into the greater United States).
3. Going to Austin, Texas/ Oklahoma City. (This city is known for receiving/shipping illegal narcotics into the greater United States).
4. The driver being very nervous. (Innocent motoring public tends to be nervous when first encountering law enforcement, but subsides as the contact prolongs, and his never subsided).
5. Their travel plans seemed implausible. (The rental car was from Portland, Oregon, Mr. Vredenburgh advised they were in Las Vegas for two days, so travel plans don't meet the time frame.)
6. The luggage in the back of the vehicle, people tend to place luggage in the trunk of the vehicle if the trunk of the vehicle is not full.
Due to, but not limited to, the above criminal behaviors and items of interest, I had reasonable suspicion that Mr. Vredenburgh and passenger were involved in some type of criminal activity.
As Mr. Vredenburgh got between my police vehicle and his vehicle I called out to Mr. Vredenburgh he stopped I asked him if I could asked him some questions he stated yes, Mr. Vredenburgh returned to my police vehicle without any further direction from me. [As] Mr. Vredenburgh was returning back to my vehicle I advised him he could sit in my unit if he desired which he did sit back down in my police vehicle."
"At this time I retrieved my narcotic sniffing canine Blek from my police vehicle. I deployed Canine Blek in a systematic exterior sniff of the vehicle, while doing so Canine Blek alerted to the vehicle attempting to jump in the driver's side open window attempting to trace odor he was detecting and he alerted to the trunk of the vehicle. Canine Blek and I are certified as a team through the New Mexico State Police Criminal Enforcement Unit, and through CNCA..."
"At the office I drafted, applied, granted and executed a search warrant on the vehicle. Inside the vehicle I located 49 pounds of high grade marijuana, 3.5 pounds of THC wax in wax form, and several jars of THC wax in these jars."
Due to space constraints, case disposition information will be posted in a pinned comment.
Some of you will remember the video where a New Mexico trooper called a woman's dentist to confirm her appointment. Now you know why.

@@kdizzle901 yea as Brian said, the lying is where they screwed themselves. A cop has the legal right to search your vehicle in the case that he believes you’re conducting an illegal activity. Living in Texas, where weed is illegal, and coming from Oregon where there’s tons of excess weed, and then trying to lie about the trip/renting a car for a small trip makes this seem like obvious drug trafficking. He probably sees it twice a week, I’m just surprised it took the cop so long to question him about it.

It’s scary but I’ve watched hours of videos about this stuff, I think it’s interesting, and I really wanted to learn my rights and what sort of behaviors to avoid with police, the first thing that became apparent to me was that if police want you, they will do whatever possible to get you
@cdr861532
@cdr861532 2 жыл бұрын
Avoiding behavior is easier said than done. When you are sitting 2 feet away from a trooper in his cruiser and you know that you have 10+ years of prison time in your car your adrenaline (general demeanor) and mismatching stories (which can be worked through if you and your partner spend SERIOUS time on) are dead giveaways. When under extreme stress, such as this, it's damn near impossible to control your fine motor skills. You become more talkative when not required (which makes you babble and act weird, which you wouldn't notice at the time, but I bet anything the gentleman in the video would tell you, he is not acting like himself), the amount of time between answers grow noticeably longer (he took like 15 seconds to answer one question), you become fidgety (or the complete opposite, which is just as noticeable), along with a couple of other things. Not to mention that the officer (or trooper) will throw questions at you that you haven't thought of. They are much more experienced at this than any trafficker, just because any good trafficker shouldn't be interacting with the police regularly. In short, it's one thing to think about it while sitting in your living room but it is something completely different to deal with it when it's REAL and the years of prison are staring you in the face.

@@busterthe2 Of course it would. "No officer, you said I'm free to leave and I have a long drive ahead of me. Can you leave me your card and I can definitely call you later if you'd like." If the officer asks questions, tell him unless you've done anything wrong, you want to be on your way since you've already received a citation and you don't need to answer any questions. Unless he suspects a crime being committed, he can't hold you there. Once you let an officer set the tone with the buddy buddy questions, you lost. The reason being that once he hits you with a "Can I search your car?" after minutes of being friendly and you get nervous and hesitant, then he has reasonable suspicion. Saying no you don't want to answer questions is the best way to avoid that. It's your right.

Yep a judge signs warrants not a dog. Also a case was won where the cops used a drug dog around a house to sniff it. For probable cause. Well guess what the case was thrown out eventually since the dog by use of his nose searched the house without a warrant or probable causes. I always say no to search and questions. They always get a dog and lie and say the dog hit on my car. Then used the excuse someone touched my car that had handled drugs or drug money when nothing was found. . Well that's another thing money has drug residue it all does. So a dog will smell drugs on money no matter what.

@Mike Dylan that is ludicrous lol. Prosecutors and judges aren’t in court to play morals (though they can exercise their morals while making judgment) they are there during trial to judge (for the judge) and argue (for the prosecutor) the laws that were infracted upon by the alleged offender(s). Maybe if laws existed at the time saying it is legal to carry lbs of marijuana on your person and or vehicle, and a judge decided to incriminate said individual, then it would be okay to charge the judge.

I’m not positive, but I don’t know if the trunk is considered part of the car, or the immediate area within the reach of passengers. I’m pretty sure if the dope were in bags in the trunk, the COPs couldn’t unzip them and go through them. Give me some feedback on this...

This is not a good cop. That's an oxymoron. There's no such thing as a good cop. This is how all cops are trained to discover narcotics traveling through their state. And if you're going to be a criminal and travel drugs through a state you need to know how they f****** operate. When a cop tells you you're free to go you say thanks bro hey you mind if I ask you a few questions haha good try have a nice day LOL. the kids fucked up and so did his passengers
