Hopefully you've worked out the kinks and gotten things straightened out by now (pun intended😊) but if not, don't pull your ribbons taught/tight) after looping thru - just a lil snug while making sure your whole ribbon braid is flat as possible as you are creating your loops, whether you're holding the ribbons parallel (on/flat) the table or vertical (up/eye level). Hopefully this helps.
