line focus works better than spot focus... you only have to converge ONE axis... i find a black pipe full of sand, with a small diameter copper pipe looped through a few times works pretty good. its also relatively easy to get long narrow panels of mirror as offcuts... lay them out "fresnel" style, you dont need a full curve, just the angles of the curve to converge to a point...line. a simple "box", some slots/noggins, "louvre" style... and as a line, you dont have to worry about tilting it through the year, just the daily sun tracking. align it north south at the appropriate inclination for the equinox... the heating surface needs to be pretty well much the same width as each mirror panel as the light reflects parallel... wider boxes increase irradiation per unit length of heating surface. that bits all a bit of juggling with flow rates, final temperatures desired, etc... you cant get the water hotter than the surface, and if you get a small spot too hot you dont get as good a heat transfer, ie, the leidenfrost effect... the maximum heat is extracted when the coolant barely rises in temperature. can heat a LOT of water to a low temperature. as the flow rate reduces the water will get hotter, but you heat less of it, less effectively until the flow rate reduces to nothing, no heat is being extracted OR exchanged, and the water is the same temperature as the surface would be with no coolant at all... theres a sweet spot, the maximum water heated to the highest temperature possible... the fly in the ointment of the commercial plants is the "steam" part of it. theres an in surmountable loss of 80% in the phase change of water... you cant reclaim that energy. boil it to get the pressure, run the turbine to a condensing vacuum by dumping the excess heat, the back into boiler... can preheat feed water, etc, but can never BOIL water from that heat being dumped in the condensor... not an issue with coal or nuclear, theres an abundance of energy, it overcomes the deficiency of steam...

If you are using a moveable rack to hold the mirrors it might be possible to have the mirrors to hinge into a vertical position during hail storms to reduce damage. As for the brackets holding the mirrors, I imagine injection molding, or cutting slices of an appropriate extruded shape would be a very cheap to manufacture them.

Mirrors will provide stable focusing only if they are located on a parabolic surface. If you place mirrors on a flat surface, then at least place them in circles. Each circle will be a lens with its own focus.

I wonder if the base platform could use those PLASTIC PALLETS used for shipping. and then fix the angled clips for the mirrors. I live in Phoenix, Arizona and have an abundance of sunshine.

The locations make sense. The Amercian location is in the desert where the mirrors would be safe, there is no hail, no tornadoes, no snowstorms in the desert. In most of the country. Though, these mirrors wouldn't be safe. I liked your video in high reflection sheets of metal for this reason 👍

It looks like the plastic mounting parts could be designed to be modular and easily 3D printed. I missed any mention of the size. My 3D printer has a printable area of 220 mm x 220 mm.

Держать под плёнкой, а плёнку мыть отдельно. Заодно, снег и пыль с плёнки стряхивать удобнее.

How about a solution that can utilize broken pieces of mirror that people usually throw away? Maybe a ball joint stand that can be glued to the middle of the piece then positioned towards the target?
@mrbr5494 ай бұрын
You could use the broken pieces in a mosaic, that would combine art with function. That would be easy to mount also.

Why do they not build more of the concentrated solar plants I see with molten salt? Even if they are expensive the energy they make should eventually pay right? is there any technical reason why these plants are not being build or is it just simply money and control? I do not think they want a cheaper energy source. They being the ones that run the goverments.

Has anyone thought of useing mirrors to reflect more light onto existing solar panels? could we make a solar panel with mirrors around the edge focusing the reflected light onto the solar panel? I feel like we could move more light onto solar panels with mirrors. Maybe heat would be much for the panels?

Your last sentence describes the problem, efficiency declines with heat
@henderstech4 ай бұрын
@@SolarCookingGermany i feel like even with efficiency dropping your still making more power with the same sun that was already there. The only other ingredient is the mirrors and I feel like the added power could out perform the cost of the mirrors? There is probably something I am missing.

@@henderstechits not the same amount of sunlight it uses dude if you want to reflect with mirrors it takes place so it will be better to use that space for another solar panel.
@henderstech3 ай бұрын
@@mateusz5318 I never said the same amount. I said its the same sun. As in its already there why not collect more. The point is to create more energy with less panels. Some type of cheap mirrors is probably easier and cheaper to manufacture not to mention you do not have to mine special metals.

when I was working in China, I was given accomodation by my employer and they were paying the bills for me, so I used that as a competitive advantage and built a 60 TH Bitcoin mine using second-hand machines that were not profitable anymore for use if accounting energy costs, which I was not paying. I hope to one day implement one of your ideas in my family´s rural house, and go back to mining Bitcoin using that business model.
