Great engineering thank you for sharing. I can't wait to see how many plants you create with this bad boy!!!

thanks for providing some insight into the production-sales flow. Propagation is "easy" to learn (sort of), but knowing when to start and when plants will be ready to go and being able to develop a marketing plan based on those dates has been the bigger challenge. Its really helpful to hear how you organize your production. Thanks

Last year was the first time I did a lot of cuttings in summer and I didn’t have much of a plan for what to do after they rooted. I tried a bunch of different options but keeping them in the greenhouse and potting up for spring sale was a big winner because I had nice good looking growing plants early, which is what everyone has come to expect! Most of my other stuff is bare root so it’s all dormant and that doesn’t work very well for retail sale to people whose image of a plant is a green thing with leaves in a pot 😂!

And I must be a slow learner because it has taken me a dozen years to feel like I have even basic competence at propagation, no joke! When I look back to the first few years I laugh and laugh at myself, and I can only imagine that that trend will continue.

@@jkochosc, I would recommend putting something on your website where someone could request to be put on a waiting list or pre-order plants....for example I would totally buy a couple more smokey saskatoons....I love that thing but right now you don't know that besides from this comment.

This is a nice setup. Rather than a time-based system, I like using a humidity-based controller; search "electronic leaf mist controller" for an example. I've been enjoying the information you share for a couple of years now - thank you.
@jkochosc

I’ve seen those and they look great. They make more sense than time based but I couldn’t find any in the price range I found this controller for!

@@jkochosc They are certainly $$$. Given that you seem to be on-site and able to monitor your cuttings regularly, the time-based approach should work really well once you have the ideal time and frequency schedule dialed in.

Which artificial leaf are you using? What kind of interface is it? Simply a dry/not dry output? I was thinking of using one of those in my expanded setup.

Looks great. What brand of misters are you using? I tried some cooling mist sprays but they are too fine and ineffective. Looking to step up to something a little more commercial, even if it’s only 4 to 6 heads. Thanks for the video!

Hello! How are you stabilizing the water pressure coming from the well into the system? And what pressure is too low or too high? Can these fluctuations potentially make a huge difference in misting performance. Or this is something not to worry about. I will be setting up something similar for the first time and my water source is a also an underground well with a hydrophore pump. Thank you
@jkochosc
@jkochosc Жыл бұрын
The well has a standard 40-60 pressure switch, and that is the only regulation for this system. The main issue is that the more nozzles you add, the more the pressure will drop. That's why I put in two valves on this system to give all the pressure to half the nozzles at a time. If you have standard house pressure, I would say 10-15 nozzles per valve would give you full pressure. If you have lower pressure, the droplets will be larger so misting won't be quite as even and the spray diameter will decrease. Good luck!

@@jkochosc Thank you for the answer. I set up everything, built a nice mist house and already made bunch a cuttings. First day it was working properly. And then the second day it started to stop the cycles after (sometimes) two, (sometimes) three openings of valve. The start time just doesnt change any more. And valve stays closed. I tried to restart the system few times. And the same thing happens. It is in the window of irrigation. Am I missing something? So frustrating. I had a hard time getting this controler in the country where I live. No technical support here. No easy way to replace it for a new one. A lot of work for setting all this up. So frustrating. I hope I am missing something and that you or somebody else reading this had the some problem and have an answer maybe. Thank you again. Come on Eric, come on Sean, come on Akiva please tell me I am missing something and that the damn thing is not broken! :)

@@malaleuca6620- if you’re using the same timer, there is only one cyclic setting. If you get the start and end windows to come up, you’re in the cyclic mode. One thing you have to watch is that if you change the start window before your current time it won’t automatically start the cyclic process again. You have to wait till the next day. There’s supposed to be a way to hold the home button and override that but it didn’t work on mine.

Did you add heated cables under it? If not you should to do hardwood cuttings. I have a similar setup and bottom heat is really nice

To add resilience couldn't you add an in line pressure tank? or tanks? That would guarantee water even if the well is off.
@jkochosc
@jkochosc Жыл бұрын
Yes! I mean resilience more in the sense that the whole system is reliant on the grid, active energy etc. But in a day to day practical sense it’s robust. There have been zero glitches in the system all season long and it has required zero maintenance and produced a couple thousand high value plants!
