Got my JPX 900 HM with PX LZ graphite two weeks ago. After strugling with getting the distances right (hit too long and many times over the green) I'm dialed in now and start hitting greens again! Last round 83%....best ever! These irons are AMAZING!
@WLLoo8 жыл бұрын
Hey Rick, I believe the reason why the Forged goes further than the Hot Metal for you is because the Hot Metal is designed to give the player with lower swing speeds more height, and more length. Hence when you hit the Hot Metal with so much ball speed, the ball will spin too much, giving too much backspin, which leads to a shorter distance. Cheers, and I really enjoyed this 'preview' of your actual review!
@glumbum66 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the CG is pulled so much further back that, despite being the same loft, the hot metal flies much higher, spins much more than the forged. Seems to actually make the hot metal a much more playable club for both types of players--faster swing speeds will enjoy the extra spin that they don't usually get from "distance" irons, and slower speeds will enjoy the penetrating flight, which will add yards to their shots.
@francoisdesmoulins-lebeaul42738 жыл бұрын
The results of the new swing start to show very nicely, Rick. You're so much more in line it's untrue! Keep on the good work with Dan and the Quest will become that much easier!

Rick would love a video where you describe why you switched from the Ben Hogan's to the Pings, what was your thinking etc, and if you're coveting any other irons. Great video!

+Rick shields. Think you should show the swing speed with the dots in your clubs. Because you might be swinging the tour a few mph more. It does make a noticeable difference no? At least when you test them separate. And for the top few clubs you test I think the way you tested the taylormade psi tour was the best review I have seen on KZbin.
@fgnerogewnjfh54678 жыл бұрын
each and every one of the new irons are incredible. I work in a golf retail store and the rep came into us a few weeks ago, so i got the chance to hit them. Even the cast iron (hot metal) feels softer then most cast irons. The forged in my opinion is not their best they've made but they are still a great iron for a 15 handicapper (good ball striker) of lower. But my god that tour version is fucking amazing. feel, sound looks everything it is just a beautiful iron. If i were Rick i would seriously consider putting them in the bag. The thing is the reason the distance is not lost is that mizuno are making the faces of the irons thinner therefore the ball speed increases and therefore distance increase.
@joedorgan61368 жыл бұрын
Was looking for a new set but wanted a bit more durability so was gonna plum for the i blade but after seeing these i just dont know now ? Do you think that the forged are a soft forged the type that marks easy or are they a little bit tougher with the addition of boron?
@locsmiths8 жыл бұрын
Great overview! I was looking for a good excuse to replace my 825 pros. I think I may go with the un-forged this time around. It looked like you weren't swinging the hot metals as fast as the other two. I look forward to the individual reviews.

Hey Rick, are those the correct launch angles for a 7 iron? I went and did testing and found out that I was launching the 7 iron at 30 degrees, that is way to high huh? Do you know how much distance I would lose launching it that high? Also would a stiff shaft help keep a lower ball flight? Thanks Greg Kaludis

Chromoly refers to steel alloyed with chromium, molybdenum, manganese, and other things. The 4140 stamped on the clubs tells more about the quantity of those alloys as well as the carbon content. 4140 is a strong steel which I would think would be hrd to adjust for loft and lie, depending on how it is heat-treated, but I'm sure Mizuno has all that figured out.

It competely threw me off guard of my iron yardage in a good way. I'm a mid 80's player...avg.140 yd w 7 iron. I Once hitted 190+ with the 5 iron...onto the green. It's amazingly forgiving N powerful. Last but not least...it looks So damn good. I have T zoid, MP...this gen JPX is the best. Looking forward to the next gen 919. The tour irons looks beautiful. Only thing that concerns me is the low spin numbers, I like my 7 iron to sit around the high 6000s. But maybe that's where the extra distance is coming from?
@drew2nice838 жыл бұрын
Great review. Not sure about the forged version anymore. I guess the fitter could always weaken the loft, but the height and spin might perform poorly. Love the top line though it looks as thin or thinner than the mp25 or Ap2 I tried.

Hi Rick, are your swing changes taking down the RPM? Shouldn't you be getting around 7,000RPM with a 34° 7?
@CMBelite-FR8 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, the launch angle is high so i don' tthink he is delofting that much, I think its how these irons have been designed that makes them low spinning
@1b0o08 жыл бұрын
CMBelite-FR what bothers me is that Rick consistently produced around 7,000RPM with other 7 irons, prior to his swing change. This new swing is better, looks more under control but I don't know if this numbers are because of the iron or the swing.
@CMBelite-FR8 жыл бұрын
Alvaro Ybañez He never produced 7000 RPM withj a 7i with Golf improvement iron sets. Could also be the ball, was it a prenium ball. I can get over 1000 RPM difference with a titleist DT solo and Prov1X
@1b0o08 жыл бұрын
CMBelite-FR I'm talking about the Tour one. He produce 5,600 RPM. Balls are always (or almost always) ProV1's.
@CMBelite-FR8 жыл бұрын
Alvaro Ybañez Yeah but it doesn't look like a true blade iron, maybe his swing speed has slowed down aswell => less spin. With the apex pro 2014 iron, I get 5800-6300 spin with the 6i : ball speed : 136-138 mph, launche angle : 19°, attack angle : -1° ( avg) and 174m carry ( normalized data). you can see that i have quite a perfect low spin for a 6i considering the ball speed, so his spin looks okay with a 122 mph ball speed.
