1:28. Tesla claims 240 seconds saved. I get a different number, of course! More than double. I don’t think they are calculating the driver return time. Cybertruck driving distance from end of production line to north end of EOL. 3100’ 945m from entrance to tunnel, through tunnel, road north to the north end of the EOL. At 25mph 40km/h, that journey would take 85 seconds. Return journey for the drivers from the north end of the EOL, via River road, Cyber Circle and into the east-west vehicle passageway to the assumed staging area at the end of the Cybertruck production line is 8054’ 2454m*. Driving this route at 25mph 40km/h, takes 229 seconds. Maybe a bit longer if a lower speed is required in the building. Haven’t in fact seen a vehicle take this route into the east-west vehicle passageway, but neither have I seen drivers being dropped off by the GA Loading Platform which would be the closest entrance to the end of the Cybertruck production line. A minimum of a 730’ 220m walk through the building if dropped off there. 3 minute walk for a fit young person according to google. Driven back in a 4 passenger Model Y. The trip is made 5 times to deliver 4 vehicles. ((85 + 229) x 5) divided by 4 = 392 seconds. 6 minutes 32 seconds per vehicle. Driven back in a 10 passenger bus. The trip is made 11 times to deliver 10 vehicles ((85 + 229) x 11) divided by 10 = 345 seconds. 5 minutes 45 seconds per vehicle. That’s the *minimum* time. No time calculated for lost time waiting at either end, lost time to traffic at the couple of intersections on the return. Dollar saving per vehicle. Based on a hourly manhour rate (cost to Tesla, not wages) of $32.69 as suggested by Joe's patron Scott M. Driven over by a driver and driver returns as a passenger in a 4 passenger Model Y. $3.60 saving per Cybertruck. Driven over by a driver and driver returns as a passenger in a 10 passenger bus. $3.13 saving per Cybertruck. *I miscalculated. Distance is in fact 9850’ 3003m. Can’t be bothered recalculating.

12:05 I don't recall a big pond behind the west side tunnel opening? The rest of the ditching along 130 toward River Road does not appear wet. As you point out at 11:59 water is being pumped out from a tunnel drain. Possibly that is why the tunnel is not in use at this time? A lot of mysteries here, all over the place: roof top cabling not yet spliced but 4 coolers running? Rearranged flag pole fencing; 27:00 site not seeming to match transformers; Tesla Road trenching; I would not want to be trucker, sitting for 10 days , loading waste water.
@DessieDoolan2 күн бұрын
@@WarrenLacefield 12:05. Pond. Drainage ditch. That's where a pile of earth was placed over the tunnel alignment (a 'surcharge' the term used by tunnelling engineer David Salisbury), may have been excavated a little below the drain original invert/base. There's been a good flow of water as far as the river outfall at 13:28. The water in the tunnel drain would include water from the road that has found it's way into the grate drain across the entrance.
@WarrenLacefield2 күн бұрын
@ Good points about tunnel drainage. I hope so. Thanks.
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn2 күн бұрын
@@DessieDoolan 1:28 I would strongly disagree for the following reason.... According to Tesla there are two different projects... Self driving and the tunnel. So when self driving is considered, ALL of the time savings in man-hours would come from self driving (assuming it works). Self driving simply eliminates the need for workers, and thus the man-hours. Time saved in getting the vehicles from the end of manufacturing to the end of line facility as a result of the tunnel.... The only distance that should be counted is the extra distance from the tunnel alignment to River Road. Which would be 1,000' x 2. So we start with the tunnel saving 2,000' feet in distance traveled. 25 mph = 36.7 ft./sec. 2,000 ft. ÷ 36.7 ft./sec. = About 55 seconds saved. If you want, you can double that to account for time spent at stop signs. That would still only be 110 seconds. Please tell me where I'm wrong.

I think there have always been EOL activities (here, in Berlin, and in Shanghai). Supercharging, test track drives, cleaning, software uploading, "paperwork," parking/pickup slot assignment, etc. It would be interesting to see and know exactly what all is involved at EOL (especially now with vehicles driving themselves around, to EOL and to pickup slots). Occasionally we have seen (during visitor factory tours, etc.) the "internal" activities as Model Ys pile up inside the factory at end of assembly lines. Then they were driven out the door and to charger and EOL activities in the east lots where the helipad is located; then moved to a nearby lot for trailer truck pickup. I think there simply was not enough room there as manufacturing rate increased and the CT came along. It was time to consolidate all of those miscellaneous activities. Now, possibly until Model Ys get their own tunnel under 130, they will share the CT tunnel (maybe in batches).

Unsupervised FSD in "almost every US market by the end of this year" (2025). THIS is incredibily significant. The potential revenue stream has been building force like a giant compressed SPRING for years now as this tech developed to the release point. Would not surprise me at all if $TSLA price "catapulted" into 4-figure territory by end of year. Time will tell. Time is running short to pick up shares before it does. $10K of TSLA this Spring could easily get you $40K in a year, 18 months, IMHO. If interest rates were at January 2021 levels still, I would be leveraging up a bit, but it's a bit pricey to borrow ATT. Still, worth considering if one has the means to service the debt long term (considering NOTHING is a sure thing, of course.)

@@DavidJohnson-tv2nn TLDR Version--Technically, NO, but allow an explanation: (Longer Version). I don't deal in "beliefs" of my own for economic issues. For purposes of answering you, though, if by belief you mean "something I'm willing to invest toward", then consider I put ALL of my "belief" into TSLA on 10 Jan 2020, sold/bought/sold-ALL (short-turn, pandemic-related) culminating in another ALL IN buy on 16 March 2020, which has worked financially in my favor, to put in mildly. I "suspect" another such inflection point is closer to 1 year away than 2 years away. Call it belief if you want to (I don't). The experts were saying TSLA was way overpriced when I bought in originally at (split-adjusted) $31 in Jan 2020. I didn't "believe" in TSLA (nor the "experts") back then either. I just pulled my money from an index fund and went for it because it seemed like a decent risk-adjusted thing to do. I told my brother at the time "I could lose it all, but I doubt I will." So far, so good. Only advice I would EVER give anyone on investing is, don't put any money into the market you can't AFFORD to lose. To me, understanding the state of the AV tech TODAY is all I really need to know in order to make the bet that "soon enough for my purposes", TSLA stock will double twice. If I planned to spend the money 12 months from now, it would be in cash today at the going rate, but I'm not planning on using the money for at least 10 years. With that in mind, even though TSLA it is likely to go up much sooner than that, I can afford to wait as needed. Last note: I don't think there is ANY type of belief except HONEST belief. Anything else is just a falsehood or wishful thinking. (Religions and Gambling come to mind here...)

Why is elon building a full service concrete batch plant at the austin gigafactory in 2025? If he is going to be building cars and 100k robots in 2026, and scaling 10x per year, he needs more floorspace. Some of these buildings take over 18 months to get running. Does elon sell concrete too? Hes got a batch plant and there are tons of new housing developments all through this area.

It is likely that the batch plant @ 28:12 will be moved and the original facility closed. Whoever owns it is probably paying for the costs.
@DavidJohnson-tv2nnКүн бұрын
By the way, it is highly unlikely that Musk will be scaling anything by 10x per year. That is just Musk hyping and pumping his over priced stock in my opinion.

Tesla didn't operate the plants. Both were operated by Martin Marietta before being sold to Texas Materials. Presumably the batch plant being upgrade will still be operated by Texas Materials. Original batch plant likely being demolished for additional Tesla buildings.

@JoeTegtmeyer But drone videos taken in the past few days over Fremont show no such automation going on right now. All human drivers driving the cars, so just a PR stunt. Must not be quite ready for prime time yet. Careful with believing marketing materials, Joe!

So, as I've said many times before, there's no reason why we should have to drive an inconvenient and expensive Tesla’s electric cars. Toyota's hybrid cars are far superior, as they are convenient and inexpensive. It would be strange to give subsidies to electric cars, which are bad for the environment. It should be used as an environmentally friendly hybrid car. Do you have any opinions?

The 8 and 1/4" Hitachi circular saw from the late 1990s was the best saw ever made. Well balanced, compact, a little more cutting depth than the 7 1/4", easy to adjust. Others might disagree.
