There used to be an Asian NATO. It was called SEATO, and it was established in 1955 and was dissolved in 1977 after the US pulled out of Vietnam, South Vietnam fell to the North, and other members lost interest and withdrew. So this "new Asian NATO" would simply be a sort of resurrection of an organization that has existed before.

The French left just created an entire coalition to suppress Le Pen, and voted in an ultra-left pro-immigration party. USA just had an assassination attempt on a presidential nominee because the media and justice system couldn't prevent him from winning. People say the dude was a Republican. Yeah, sure he was.. just like everything bad is always far-right, while riots are just mostly peaceful protests. Hollywood is time and time about promoting racial bias towards White People while glorifying diversity, despite being unprofitable for Hollywood and other industries. You can't trust China, but the West is no less corrupt.

Currently (July 2024) the Pitch Black exercises have begun in Australia. There are 20 nations, 140 aircraft, and 4500 aircrew conducting aerial war games over the Australian desert. It gets its name from the night operations it specializes-in. It is a biennial set of exercises that has always focussed on international cooperation. Another thing not mentioned is the increasing cooperation between Australia and Japan, and Japan and the Philippines. The Philippines is looking to upgrade its air force with either F16 or Gripen fighter aircraft, and Australia is doubling the size of its surface fleet. Australia has increased defense spending to 2.4% GDP and is likely to increase again to over 3%. We are seeing some urgency in rebuilding forces. Time will tell if it is fast enough.

@@savethebeesplantherbs8809 I don't know where you get the idea of UK military bases in Australia. There has been no military presence of that kind since the last British troops withdrew from Australia in 1870. However there are a couple of joint US/Australia spy bases that are part of the Echelon network, one at Pine Gap, the other in Geraldton. These bases listen to satellite transmissions, and military communications. This is part of the Five Eyes alliance between UK, Canada, US, Australia, and New Zealand. There is also the joint Australia/US base at Exmouth, that appears to be all about naval communications in the Indo-Pacific, primarily for Australia and US navies, but also used by other allies, and I am sure the UK probably uses it as well. The antennas there are the tallest in the Southern Hemisphere. There are also regular rotations by US Maines and Air Force through several Australian bases. These forces usually deploy for 6 to 8 months for training in Australia, especially in Darwin, but also in Queensland. Singapore Armed Forces train with Australian Defense Forces because Singapore is too small, and Australia and Singapore have very close ties. Australia has a history of working closely with allies, but no nation has a military base in Australia other than joint facilities with Australia, or simply using Australian bases.

@IONATVS
@IONATVS 2 ай бұрын
While I love the acronym, I feel like they would pick a new name to not remind people of the old ones’ breakup. Especially since South Vietnam was a SEATO member and modern Vietnam, which is a political continuation of NORTH Vietnam would be a prospective member of the new one. New name lets people put those painful memories to bed more easily. Something like Indo-Pacific Treaty Organization (IPTO) or Pacific Rim Allied Treaty Organization (PRATO).

That's a very valid point (and an important one), but when referring to a nation's leadership it's just easier and simpler to refer to it by its common name, most reasonable people readily know the difference. Same thing when referring any collective, unless you need to make the specific difference between the leadership and whole body known for some reason. "KZbin recently introduced a new policy about...", or "There's been a new law passed in New York City that says...." (Edit: corrected for spelling and clarity)
