I wish someone would make rechargeable lithium battery packs specified for specific Nerf blasters Imagine gutting out a Stryfe battery storage, putting a lithium in it, and being able to charge your Stryfe with a Micro USB cable.

FYI, Nominal voltage is when the battery is at its lowest (stock) voltage, Lithium batteries have a nominal voltage of 3.7v but when fully charged they are 4.2v. but most people use the nominal voltage because the battery steadily decreases voltage while in use.

They're not Lipos. The PO4 stands for "Phosphate". They're lithium ferrous phosphate, or lithium ferrous cells. LiFePO4s (or LiFe's for short) are much safer than LiPo's, which are basically the same chemistry as Trustfires, just rated for higher currents.

An update for anyone who is after more info. I took a stock styfe and rewired with a MOSFET setup. It is using four of these cells the blaster is getting between 80-90 FPS. A stryfe out the box gets 70fps. So it's a nice beginner upgrade for those starting out in NERF modding. As Just-a-jolt says how long the stock motors will last with cells is another matter. I built this blaster for a friends child so I will find out how long the motors last in due time.

I'm not surprised they outperform dry cells - the Nemesis rechargable pack is made of 6x 1.2V NiMH cells for a nominal 7.4V but outperforms the standard 6D cells. Current is more significant than voltage. Anyway my current 'no mods required' battery upgrade is the NiZn rechargable. These offer the current capacity of NiMH but with 1.5V nominal. 4 of them in a Stryfe offers a decent boost over stock but is safer than any Lithium based cell. My sons Nemesis is now running on 6 of them in AA-D adapters and they work nicely.

I wouldn't use them in a Regulator though, unless you really know what you're doing, you can fry them really easily on IMR's (I found out the hard way!) You can get them on eBay at a really good price and free first class delivery, I think they come in a pack of 2 so you'll need some dummys as well, ( I use the same ones as in the video). 14500 cell batteries that produce more than 1.5v is unsafe for our application as the cannot safely output the required amperage. LiPos are good and not too hard to deal with as long as you do your research. Dangerous if mishandled, but much safer than house-fires and IMRs.

@justajolt
@justajolt 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Vastneon! I think they're good for what they are and at a good price, but, for example red Efest IMRs are better. Of course, many of my Britnerf friends will say I need to use more LiPos anyway and they're probably right, but as 14500 size replacements go, I'd use LiMn technology because it's more proven and can chuck out more than enough current to keep with 3S motors than just enough!

Pls answer can I put three of these coolook batteries in my stock yellow pre elite stock raven? Pls answer
@justajolt
@justajolt 5 жыл бұрын
I would say yes, but extended use might trip the thermistor (motors cut out and you have to wait till it all cools down... not ideal in the middle of a Nerf war!) Try it though... I personally haven't used that configuration for a long period of time at once, and the Coolooks are lower voltage than regular IMRs, so it could well be that three is fine in stock. The stock motors are average quality 2S, so I recommend a rewire and upgrade to 3S ideally when you get round to it!

I use 2 coolooks and 2 dummy batterys in my select fire stryfe and have had 0 malfunctions on the gear box or the flywheel motors but I'm curious on a new project im working on with merlin motors on FTW flywheels on a micro blaster set up with high crush to see if I can still fling foam safer than using lipos since my blasters aren't used in wars or competitions they don't need to run very long since they are only 700mah
@MGSLurmey
@MGSLurmey 6 жыл бұрын
What about NiMH batteries? How do they compare against regular Alkalines? I seem to get better performance with them but Alkalines appear to have faster rev up times. How does that compare? I don't remember much about electronics from school, so I'm not sure how Voltage and Amperage interact with the motors of my nerf guns. How about the Regulator? What are the power requirements for the motors in that?
@microwrx
@microwrx 6 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the AA sized ones it's because they are 1.2V as opposed to the Alkalines being 1.5V. So for a Stryfe for example you are running it on 4.8V using NiMH instead of the 6v you have if using Alkalines.
@MGSLurmey
@MGSLurmey 6 жыл бұрын
But the way Alkalines work compared to other battery chemistries is that they start at 1.5v at peak performance and then very quickly lose their voltage as they drain, going easily below the constant 1.2v of NiMH batteries at even 75% charge. That explains why new Alkalines result in faster rev up times but it doesn't explain why using NiMH batteries appears to give the flywheels a higher maximum rpm. Maybe that's just something I've imagined though, somehow. Could be. If only NiMH batteries could be 1.5v instead of 1.25... that would be great. I'd buy those if they were a thing.
@microwrx
@microwrx 6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. NiMH keep their 1.2V pretty constant until just before they are done whereas Alkalines start dropping way earlier but more slowly overall. It does explain why the initial rev up on Alkalines (relatively fresh ones) would be higher though.

Hey Jolt, What do you think about 9.6v or 7.2v NiMH rechargeable battery packs? I have a bunch left over from when I had a lot of RC cars and thought maybe I could rewire nerf guns to use them. Would you recommend?

You can use them and they are better than dry cells, but not as good as lipo. I use NiMH in blasters my kids use because they can be safely fully discharged unlike lipo, something that happens a lot when kids leave stuff switched on.

Hey guys, Can i use this batteries in stock regulator and don' t fry it? i mean, 6.4 v with 2 of them sounds good. Im a noob so i don' t know everything about batteries and modding, but i wanted to increase range and Rate of fire with rechargable batteries.
@lukazajc8265
@lukazajc8265 3 жыл бұрын
You dont get a great increase but you also dont fry your board. Probably go from around 70fps to 75 or 80. But they are rechargable which is the best part. Hope I helped you a bit

The lone Assasin, yes. I forgot what it’s called but when you open it, there’s gonna be a little orange nub thing on the circuit board that when it gets too much current, it shuts down the electronics.

A little less than LiMn with stock motors and flywheels but much more than 1.5v cells. It depends on the blaster ^_^

should I use 3 of these with 180s in a stryfe? 2? 4?
@calvinlee2261
@calvinlee2261 6 жыл бұрын
Zero. All 180 motors worth using pull more than 20 amps at stall each, which no AA sized cell can output. Especially not when you’re using the steel tray springs.

Most of the IMR, Trustfire type battery models are designated by size. So the AA ones are 14500 because they are 14mm diameter and 50mm long (size of a AA battery). You can get 10440s which are AAA sized and 25500 which are C sized. But they are a bit harder to find as they are not used nearly as much as 18650s or 14500s.

BenTRNBs115 They have more torque, but because they have more torque, they pull more current than Stryfe motors. Something like 12 amps at stall for a pair. Neither the 14500 sized IMRs or LiFePo4 can output that kind of current in the factory battery tray.
