Hi, you have been very informative, you have a nice calm voice to explain things, thanks heaps. Something new users should know though "the setting up the app...only works properly on ANDROID not Iphone" (I learnt the hard way!) it was frustrating how everyone said it was easy to set up. just glad its done now.(4 days later)

To save changing all device passwords, I just change my new modem name and password to match the old one after factory reset of old one. Everything just carries on a before

If anyone owns the google nest. Does the WiFi point randomly disconnect from the router? I want to get the nest setup but keep hearing that’s an issue with it.

First of all you weren’t getting that Speedtest via wifi. That’s testing via the wired connection to the bridge.

You're right ,doing an Internet speed test is not a speed test anyway, speed between devices in the home over Wi-Fi is a speed test.

That first speed test you run is actually ran from the Nest router and not your phone. And their is something very wrong if that’s all your getting on your download speed tests, you should be getting 600 plus.

I believe you can, but you have to buy the "router" versions and not the "point" versions. The default kit is 1-router and 1-access point. The router has 2 ethernet ports on the back, but the access points do not have any, so you can't hard wire them to anything. You can purchase kits on Amazon and elsewhere that come with 2 or 3 "routers" (vs 1 router and additional access points). With those, you can attach one of the routers to your modem and use the others as either wireless or hard wired access points like the previous version of Google Wifi. The main downside to the "routers" is that they lack the google assistant that is found in the access points. It's annoying that Google couldn't stick with a simple approach like the previous version and make them all the same, but this is what they are offering. I hope this helps.

Just one simple question. I got one router from my provider which I installed today. I have a house with 2 floors. Main router is on the first floor. I can get two more wireless points since on those to places I cannot have cable connection, it can only be wireless. I can choose if those two points I get Google points or Google routers acting like a points. So, should I take routers or points? Same price, I get it for free by the way.

The points will work fine and probably be good enough (cheaper too) but you will get faster speeds if you do all routers.

I heard you say that you have CenturyLink fiber with your google/nest wifi. I'm curious what your setup is because using Google or Nest Wifi with CenturyLink is a headache. Do you have it connected to the CenturyLink provided modem/router? Or did you bypass it?

Yes...it is connected to the modem that they provided...seems to be working fine.

So you have 2 nest routers. I have seen packages of 1 nest router and 2 points devices (repeaters, without Ethernet port). I want to know how these points compare to an old google WiFi puck that is hardwired (and not the main router one)

The orignal router is in my brothers room but the dead area is in the living room. The whole house does need an upgrade in internet speed but is one enough to power the whole flat? Tee we got 4 for a around 7500 sq ft house and it’s amazing you get great coverage everywhere. I don’t know how large your house is but everything under 5000 sq ft should work great with 2

You would need to disable the “router” function and only use it as a modem. The two competing signals would cancel each other out. You may need to contact your ISP for how to do this......or search KZbin

typically if you can log into the router/modem from your phone or desktop you can enable bridge mode on your router/modem combo. Then it only acts as a modem which will get rid of the double nat you might experience.
