You didn’t specifically mention this, but basically if you tap higher on the holds, you can end them early thus giving more time to jump off them to whatever is next.

Yep, that’s the conclusion! I didn’t specifically say players “should” tap above the line because a decent chunk of the player base plays visually instead of by ear. Routinely tapping above can obstruct a players visual view which could result in a perf instead of a P+ which would be a point trade in the “wrong” direction (P+ > Hold tick). It may be required in certain beatmaps though, the pro player base is figuring it out over time which might result in requests to the developers to adjust the notes for specific songs.

I just tested this myself and I got a Dp. I tapped a bit higher than I used to and it worked. It’ll take sometime to get used to it though.

I can't tell you how excited I was to learn that you had put out another tutorial since the latest update!!! Your first hold note tutorial and the sync tutorial helped me to be able to score my first Diamond(not Dp, but I'll get there!!😉) I am sharing them every chance i get! Since this new update however, I have not been able to lock in that "Sweet spot" anymore!!! It so frustrating, like they not only changed the mechanics of the hold notes but of Every note! I too am one of those players who based my whole game play around beginning my tap just below the perfect line to achieve those perfect+s!!! Now it's like I have to learn how to lay the game all over again....🤷🏻‍♀️But anyway, THANK YOU for breaking this down! I definitely feel like I suck a lot less than I had first thought because I watched this video!!! Thanks again!! And I can't wait to see what your next one will be on!

Informative video, well done! In my opinion, this didn’t “fix” the hold note problem but actually reversed it. If we bottom tappers have to an adapt a new playstyle(a method I learned to combat the weird bug that’s been in the game since launch) then why couldn’t the middle tappers do the same? All Beatstar had to do was just mention it in game, in the tutorial, maybe in the loading screen as a reminder. Or just make it like a regular tile where it doesnt matter where you tap as long as the timing is correct. Because now we have one part of the community that absolutely loves it(or at least able to push through) while the other part is struggling to adapt…so basically the same problem.

The bug was fixed, you can still get max points on a long note by pressing below the perfect line, the problem is, you need to keep holding the note way longer for the game to register the ticks to where your finger is (basically the game waits for the hold note to pass your finger position fully) to score your full tick points.

I hear what you’re saying Kay, I agree it’s a trade off that was net positive and 3 steps forward 2 steps back. No more final tick gap “bug” but in ideal world the hold notes are a fixed duration and it wouldn’t matter where we start the hold. 500 milliseconds (0.5 sec) from end to end is a significant discrepancy that leaves a little more to be desired from the design!

@@VertigoMusicGaming I see. I wouldn’t have a problem with holding longer if some charts didn’t have immediate taps(or long notes) afterward. I think I had 1 DP post update(say so) and those long notes are more forgiving than let’s say “go with the flow”. All trial and error. Thanks again for the vid 🤙🏽

Great video! It's incredible to me that depending on your finger position, there's an over half-second differential on when you can get the final tick of points. Not a fix. It shouldn't be tied to finger position at all.

Thanks man! Yeah I agree 500ms is a pretty significant spread. It’d be nice if it were tighter, or no difference at all. Still an overall change in the right direction for the community but leaves hardcore players with some playstyle redesign.

I noticed the game got so much easier when I started playing it again this year. The hold swipe notes play themselves 50% of the time without me doing anything

Great video. After 24 diamond perfects, I got today my first non DP with 0 perfects, so the new style is not good for me. I have to adapt. Good news is that at the end I finally managed to DP the song, but I liked more the other way, because when I press above the line I usually tend to press earlier than I should. I have to change my whole timing, if I change the press position :-(

Id say that’s a common outcome, personally, I plan to adapt to be on the hit box and only move up if a window is tight (discovered by the result unfortunately).

Thanks for this tutorial! So basically this update actively doesn't let me to ever DP Debaser. I had issues with it before the update (though never reached 0perfect runs, but managed to get 49653 through blood sweat and tears) and after the update i've tried it a dozen times (with my regular gameplay, or modified to tap higher etc.), not even reaching 49500 :) But this just means I just have to save this song for a better day. I've had so many robberies of diamond perfects everything has came up perfect plus I've held the notes for the entirety and even the swipe hold notes have came up perfect plus on tap, and then swipe I've had roughly 50 songs deducted to just diamond...

I’ve found that it doesn’t matter where you tap unless the hold note has a normal note straight after it. I have now had a 971 0p, 985 0p and a 993 0p run on bang bang, whilst all my other songs I’ve played have been fine.

Definitely, and I'd say the same. Rather than try to keep a mental inventory of all the songs this applies to, I'm learning to adjust my playstyle and send in feedback to Beatstar on maps that can be improved over time!

@@VertigoMusicGaming what I don’t understand is that they tried to fix the way you *have* to press at the bottom of the hold note to gain all points, but instead they’ve just changed it so you have to press the top/middle. Just make it so you can press anywhere lol, it should be the release that matters.

Also what would you recommend? I am a thumbs player, played at the bottom of the tile space (second video across), have been fine with most songs but a few I have struggle with (bang bang)

@@meilyr6456 My new approach and recommendation is that players adjust to play on the P+ line for the majority of songs. When a player discovers a really tight hold note hop that can't be mitigated with a different finger style (Bang Bang is a double hold) then play that hold above the P+ line to buy an extra ~0.2 seconds to make the transition.
