I went to work for the NWP in 1970. I worked this Petaluma job. I worked that Healdsburg local and the Santa Rosa job over to Sebastopol. And I worked the extra board working from Schellville to Willits. Lots of memories. 👍❤️

Right now they are running Tuesday and Thursday.

I'm glad that there once again, freight trains running thru Petaluma, wish that the old turntable bridge didn't get replaced. I remember as a kid the freights coming thru with lumber from the mills up north, miss those days. Now we got the dumbass commuter train, it sucks with it's no train horn policy. Love the freights though. Nice video

Just got the 2 disk set, a wonderful job. Lots of things none of us will ever see otherwise (Cab rides over bridges!, if only there were tunnels)

The North Coast Rail Authority which owns the railroad did do an environment review of the railroad to willits and can be found, I think, on the NCRA website. It should be noted that no environmental review is required to restore the existing rail service.

Nevermind.. It's in wine country up around Sonoma California.

Beautiful almost 3rd world ambience. Now if the politicians in the government would have a clue, this line should be freight and passenger train all the way to Ukiah. Maybe an adjacent bicycle path to add some quality of life. How to pay for this? The real estate around the train station mixed residential/commercial development town hubs with car Free zones. Sorry, I forgot that this is America.

I would assume this is the former SP Sisikyou line in Northern California?

Kinda kool coming up on this video. Worked on a small re hab project on this shortline in 2010. We rebuilt the bridge structure on 37 and replaced about 2,000 crossties.

The line runs from Napa to Windsor at this time with plans to go to Healdsburg, then Cloverdale, then Willits. No plans at this time to go to Eureka

Well done - great shortline action! Very inspiring!

Great camerawork. Looking forward to getting this... Never thought I'd see a freight train go through Schellville or Petaluma ever again. Hopefully they can keep it going and eventually extend service to Ukiah.

I remember visiting that first yard shown, all the loco's were there and none making their powerful hum, though this locomotive confused me, I thought it was a green goat, then I thought it was a frankenstiened gp40. I really enjoyed the vid of it though

The NWP is a southern pacific short line and technically its the last remaining independent branch of the once great Espee and if you think about it the SP still exists inside the NWP the official paint job is the "bloody nose" with Scarlet and "southern pacific dark grey"

This is an existing decades-old rail line that simply sat dormant and is now back in use. The tracks were never torn up. IE, the land was never "returned" back to nature. I could understand environmental reviews on new constuction. But requiring an environmental review on an existing transportation corridor is ridiculous.
@Boss302fan12 жыл бұрын
Well, one immediate environmental review can be seen in the video. Hundreds of trucks off the highway. Far less pollution. Less traffic on the highways.

It would be nivce if you would mention where this railroad is located? For all I know it's in Seattle?

Full realized that it would take a whole lot to reopen the Eel River section of the tracks north, but IMHO, the reopening of the track as far north as Willets would make since. The Skunk line is still bringing lumber out.

They are already running trains? I thought it was not supposed to be opened until 2016.

I know that there was some videos put out on the Eureka Southern that included Eureka but I do not know if they are still available. There is one video that I know of that is available from the NWPRRHS.org. See also the Ellison preview on this site. It includes early 40's NWP and more. But it does not include Eureka.

The Red Locomotive is a two engined R.J. Cormand low emissions(truck engine) locomotive built from I do not know what? Looks like everything from the steel plate up has been replaced. The trucks are remanufactured.

The RJ Corman was bought used. It was a demonstrator. They are leasing the GP 9 and GP 7. If you look at the clip on the Bridge over the Petaluma River you will see the Santa Fe unit that they are leasing. This is part of my second video on the Northwestern Pacific available from the NWPRRHS.ORG
@trainzguy24728 жыл бұрын
The RJ Corman unit is still owned by the NWP and painted solid red, but now with the words "NORTHWESTERN PACIFIC" on the side and lettered "NWP" on the front. It now holds the number 2009.
