One thing I woould be interested in trying is using the Nuc with the GPU to have a cloud game streaming server. That way I could have a relatively quiet computer sititng in my network stack that I can stream games to using parsec or steam link to a handheld device like the retroid pocket or logitech cloud handheld etc. Or even stream it to a low power ultrabook so I can play some more intense games on a lower power computer.

Dang, that N50 based unit is almost my dream firewall. I have an N100 unit with a fan that struggles a bit with my home internet it has a single internal M.2 and a bootable micro SD. if that N50 unit came with the larger heatsink and say, an N200 or N300 it would be all i would need up to 3 bootable deivces internally s a great plus because i might be able to get away with a 120GB optane drive for web caching. Also, thank you Intel for starting to rename Alderlake-N to Atom, i was REALLY upset with the atom based i3-N305. Its performance is great, the name is very misleading, when looking at everything but the CPU cores and GPU, it has worse features/specs than first gen core i3(ignoring the version differences), fewer channels of RAM, fewer PCIe lanes.

Congratulations on being a father, the best advice my father gave me, and one I share with new parents: * Don't try and be silent around your baby. It's tempting because you don't want to wake them, but you want to get them used to being around noise while they sleep so you can get stuff done. He advised doing vacuuming around my son, perhaps you can start a 1U server while your child is sleeping? :-) Aside from that? Less is more. You don't need all the things you think you need. Essential purchases? Get puppy toilet training pads, they make great disposable nappy changing mats (especially good when changing on the go or when changing an ass explosion). We also bought a bulk 12 pack of 70cm 'muslin squares', there are a thousand things you'll find uses for. They can provide a shade that can be clipped up anywhere, they can mop up body fluids, etc. My wife now uses them as a cloth when she works out!

First, congrats again on the baby! Hope mom and him are healthy and doing well. Baby advice: treasure every moment, even the ones that aren’t so great. Everyone told me how fast they grow up but I didn’t internalize it in the same way as I have since. Even when our 3 month old spits up or there is a gnarly diaper change at 3am… I try to remember he’ll only be little like this once. It’s amazing to watch them grow up but also… it’s tough. NUC: these are awesome… I do sure some misgivings about Asus support , which is a shame because they do some very solid engineering work in general (not without their mistakes of course). If stuff grosses you out, a baby will numb that REAL fast. Be prepared to do a LOT of laundry, CONSTANTLY. Spit up. Pee. Poop. It's all a part of the process. I used to put a burb cloth over my shoulder because it is a lot easier to change a burp cloth than it was to change my shirt. When you take the diaper off, since you have a son, do so VERY slowly. There's a theory that the cooler air will cause him to urinate without any control, so it will just happen. Expect/anticipate being peed on. It happens. No big deal. Explosive poops can happen. Don't worry about it too much. The first poops will be like an almost black, tar-like looking substance. That's normal. It will go away. But it means that it is sometimes, quite challenging to wipe off their tiny butt initially, especially if it goes up the back, and you're trying not to hurt them too much when you are holding their legs up and trying to lift their bottom by their legs, so that you can wipe/clean the back. They like snuggies with their parents. Some babies will sleep train faster and on a more consistent schedule sooner; whilst others may not. Our pediatrician for our first child told us not to "coddle" them too much when we are trying to get them to sleep otherwise that's the ONLY way that they'll be able to sleep. Early on, we used to have visitors wash their hands, when they enter our house, regardless of whether they're going to be holding the baby or not. And last but not least, it is perfectly okay to ask for help from friends, family, etc. You DON'T have to be super parents. Baby just need to be fed, changed, and loved. Early on, other than sleep deprivation; thankfully, they're not too demanding (most of the time).
@ServeTheHomeVideo3 ай бұрын
Great advice. I am grossed out by stuff, but no problem with it apparently if it is my baby. Sleep training I cannot wait for

NUCs don't need Windows 11 Pro. They need linux. ;) As for parenting advice: you can save a ton on baby toys with a regulation football - they won't be able to chew it apart, and it can roll/bounce a million different ways to keep the kid entertained and confused much longer than any spherical ball, once their old enough to start moving around/interacting with the world. If you're super concerned about the firmer "pigskin" style, Nerf footballs also work, at least until teething era. Apart from that, don't spend money on new anything until they're talking. You'll save a ton of money, reduce landfill waste, and no one will remember or care. Also, when asking others for gifts/help/etc, focus on stuff that would make you as PARENTS feel relief. Again, the kid won't remember the extra trip through the park or fancy stroller, but every meal you don't need to make yourself, or room that someone else cleans while you're taking a nap is going to give you back energy to try to keep from drowning at work, and to actually do all the fun bits of parenting.
