Thanks for this Stephen. FWIW, when I installed a recent update of the beta version of PS, I couldn’t get oil painting to work as you said. (Although it worked in the previous beta version.) However, it does seem to work in the most recent non-beta update of PS. I’d be interested to hear if that is what you and others find as well.

Hi Stephen. I tried 3 .cr3 photos and 4 different fill setting. I never get anything that looks like the original at all. The oil painting brush strokes are way too broad (wide). Thanks for the video

Try playing a lower resolution image. It sometimes works better for me.

I've tried this many times now and find that in fact the lower the "B" number the less abstract it seems to be , when I tried 65 it created a totally different image. Around 30 seemed ok. I wonder if this is a function of the base image that is being used ?

Thank you for this - I am using PS Beta 25.12.0 & this is not working for me. I am still getting a random oil painting effect. Any advice?

Watch this Saturday's video. (Adobe keeps changing the way AI is being used in Photoshop.) I'm staying away from AI painting and will release an oil painting template that will work without AI.

I find both techniques you've shared work in the non-Beta versions , however I tried to go lower than 20% in Brightness and it wouldn;t allow me , I wanted to try to get even finer resolution , any suggestions here ?

Attempted this today. As soon as I hit quick mask my generative fill box disappears even though it is checked in windows. Any thoughts?

I tried this method using higher numbers and it looked terrible. Dropped the numbers between 10 to 30 and it looks fine. Thanks for the video

Same here. The lower the number, the less abstract it comes out and more closely resembles the original. I wonder why we're getting the opposite results as compared to Stephen. By the way, this "oil painting" prompt used to work way better a few months ago. I developed a technique and over a few months have been working on starting a service using this; went off to figure out some other pieces of marketing it. Came back to it this week, and all of a sudden, Generative Fill is giving not so good as results compared to what it was months ago. I googled the issue a bit, and seems like there are others experiencing this also. There are various thoughts on why this is happening, all having to do with the data that AI (Gen Fill, in this case), is using to learn (internet now flooded with AI generated images, so that's skewing results; or Adobe previously using images that they didn't have rights to to train AI, and them having to take those out of the data set; search some reddit subs on it). All in all to say ... I'm learning to be cautious when using these AI tools to start offering a service. Have to be aware that the tools may start performing differently over time.

Hah... it generates random "oil paintings" of stuff like flowers and random landscapes... regardless of my image. Thanks for the tip, though.
