Part way thru your video and thought I'd share some things. You can type in your blood sugar. Just tap on the zero in the circle and a key board comes up. I actually didn't know you could scroll your blood sugars. The flag that comes up on the bottom you can swipe to the right to make it go away right away.

I’m a 13 year old and I’ve had a mono pod for about 6 years now and before hand I was on needles since I was one (when I got it). My parents have definitely found it much easier and so have I. I’m from Britain and I am in the higher version of school (secondary school) and I am sport obsessed and I have to say it is more easy then a tube (coming from and friends experience). I personally love the Omni pod (and if you have sharpies, you can decorate them and change the decorations with the pod every three days) after a while I found the changing experience painless. It’s a great device for your diabetes and is very useful! I also have an extreme case of eczema and I find it does get a little itchy every once and a while. You can also put it on the fleshy back part of your arm under your shoulder, or the top part of the thigh as I am very skinny and can’t put on my stomach

I’m 14 and have been living with diabetes for almost 3 years. I’ve been on the Omnipod for more than a year with the old PDM (the new Dash has been approved in Canada as of writing) but i highly recommend it if you live an active lifestyle. I play a lot of contact sports and it is really nice to not have to disconnect my pump. Whenever i’m playing sports i tend to go higher just because of the emotion of the game so it is nice to be able to bolus without taking off equipment. It is much less invasive i feel and it’s nice not being attached to a tube all the time. At the end of the day, choose what is best for you, i just thought i would give my opinion.

I've used omnipod for years now and I think this is a very fair review. Personally, the pros of being tubeless and the insertion outweigh the cons.

I agree. I would never wear a tubed pump. My twin sister has been on Medtronic since 2003 so she’s used to it, but I was diagnosed in 2012 and had always hated the idea of having to deal with tubing. In 2018 I did an study with a closed-loop system and a tubed Roche pump... and absolutely hated it. Never again.

Kayla hey.. forgot to ask natasha/ diana above but.... have you heard if omnipod have yet to offer alternative to having to carry around the control device as fir example I work on construction. Carrying 2 devices in my pockets may be an issue. I own a samsung ironically, pitty cant be incorporated.. and, does omnipod work with the libre? Thanks all

The tube pump never worked for me. I'm an obese T1 diabetic and the tube was always getting caught on things and ripping my site out. I've never tried the Omnipod. I'm on 5 to 6 shots a day. Trying to decide if my bulk skin would cause me issues on this. Would live feed back.

I think you're right about the adhesive. I've seen a few people say it makes them itch and irritates their skin. Never had the problem myself though. Still using the previous version,waiting on insurance to ok the upgrade. But I love my POD. Never had a failed POD unless I accidentally ripped it out. Insulets customer service is great and they will replace it immediately. Oh and the older PDM has the food library too, but its not CalorieKing. Still a nice feature to have though. I like being tubeless. Mainly cause I'm a clutz, lol. I know I'll get it caught up on something.

I use the Omnipod, they do have an option where you can return your used pods back to them as part of a recycling program. You just have to inquire about the process when submitting a reorder.

I’m in the process of switching my daughter to the t:slim from Omnipod because of the adhesive! We tried so many different wipes and sprays but it still caused a lot of skin issues. Nice to hear it’s not just my daughter :) I’m nervous for the tubing (she’s 3) but excited for the small amount of adhesive!

About a year ago they changed their adhesive formula and I used to get a reaction but now I don’t do I think it depends on the patient. Thanks for making this video, I have the omnipod and am deciding if I want the dash!

I have been on tubed pumps for 15 years and have been given the chance to try the omnipod. I can't wait to get a working one, the tubes have always got in my way by catching it, pulling the canula out or the kids grabbing it. I'm super excited about the change.

Hey Natasha. I'm looking at getting a pump. In the UK.. I have been offered just a few choices. One is omnipod. I love timeless thought too. Concerns are..... 1. what about insulin being administered.. is it accurate enough? 2. Quality of omnipod components as its internal system is plastic. 3. Adhesive.. I watched diana vid but your second opinion.. diana can you also help elaborate on some of my concerns as I'm overwhelmed trying to get a pump but cant afford for example a tslim 😔

They are 30 a piece CAD and they have a recycle program they send you a bag and you send your used pods back and they re use stuff on the pods!

My insurance has not approved the Dexcom 6 for me yet so I am still using the 5... and even though the 5 works well with the smartphone app, the insurance tell me that I have to use the Dexcom PDA device or else they won't cover my Dexcom. Go Figure. Keep up the great work! You're the BEST!!

Thanks for the review! I’m a current Omnipod user and love the tube-free life. The adhesive only bothers me on my arm. Anywhere else on my body the adhesive doesn’t itch. For some reason my insurance covers the Omnipod system but not the new Dash system. I wasn’t able to upgrade.

John Harris you need to get the old omnipod not that dash. Ask to go back and join the looped Facebook group. You will need iPhone and Mac computer or access to Mac computer and to buy something called Riley link and Apple developer account. Riley link is on the looped Facebook and this link loopkit.github.io/loopdocs/ it is I think $199 usd and developer account is $99 a year

jaspal singh dash is the new one where it has more of a smart device that loooks similar to a phone to give the bolus and such off of. But the dash runs through blue tooth so doesn’t work with loop system. Only difference is the device that allows you to give bolus and such with however if you have loop you turn your actual cell phone into that device

I've been using my Omnipod Dash for a month and I too have good and bad issues. I like being able to Bolis in a restaurant without people watching or having to go to my car. I can just sit at the table and when I order, I can start the BS, Carbs & Bolis process. Don't like the adhesive, having to charge the PDM constantly and hitting the pod on something and tearing it off... hurts!! Hopefully they improve as they move forward But I see hope for all diabetics! Stay safe!!

Yes I used allergy spray for the itching also. It only bothers me on my stomach. On my arms and legs it never is itchy.

If the pump falls off because the adhesive was ineffective then I always called Omnipod and they sent me a replacement. I know this is not “approved” but if the pod malfunctions shortly after I put it in then I take out the insulin from the pod that just malfunctioned and use in the new and never had a problem.

I'm on the Omnipod and after the first day I want it off! It leaves red rings and bumps, which go away after I take it off. I want to try the t slim so badly but so not wanting to be tubed again. Such a hard choice!

Art Fimbres hey...I did the V-go 20 for about 6 months. At first I LOVED it as it was my first pump experience and it was just a relief, HOWEVER...since the V-go is a mechanical delivery device and cannot be programmed...I was CONSTANTLY fighting lows because I needed less basal so I had hypo’s all the time and removed it at night so I didn’t go low while sleeping!! Anyway my endo fought to get the original Omnipod(now I’m on the Dash) covered from my insurance. My question is...are you on the 20?? I have about 40 unused sealed V-go 20’s. No insulin, just pumps. I’m donating them FOR FREE, if you could use them!!

It’s not the only tubeless pump by any stretch I know the US are behind in the pumps they have available I have been on the Solo Micropump since December 2029. It’s better than the Omni in many ways you can change reservoirs and cannulas independently and you can bolus on it without the need of the handset.

This video is so helpful as I might change from an accu-check solo pump ( if you have never heard of it it is another tubeless pump which is technically not actually out but somehow I have it.) The solo had so many problems with the meter and the pump their a a few good things but personally I don’t think they out weigh the negatives. So maybe the Dash could be a better option!

I never had the issues of carrying or forgetting the PDM as I just used my mobile to do it with AASP et locked it again which is making things worse not better! :-( Nice video on the Dash Id rather have the Eros until they stop locking these devices for there own gains! I liked the little ticking helped me know I was getting the good stuff called insulin! :-) I also like yourself wanted to do less basals rate but was unable too, I think this is being changed in the Horizon but not fully sure! It is on our mobiles and I tested it at Christmas 2019 and bolused from my S9 Mobile! :-) Its there already and its called AASP or Loop

Hi Danica, Happy New Year. I have 2 pumps, Medtronic 630 and Omnipod Eros. I love my medtronic, being tubed doesn't bother me one bit. The size of the omnipod really bothers. So until they thin out the Omnipod, I will stick to my Medtronic and use the Omnipod occasionally. Was also hoping that the Dash would work with phone.

I used to wear an omnipod and I just switched to the tandem. The adhesive on the omnipod was the worst; at one point my entire stomach was raw because of the adhesive, Flonase really helped. The size was also hard to get used to as well.

Thanks for the video! The annoying thing you mention that flags up would be good for the programmers if its an FDA thingy to the only popup if we choose to bolus over 10u, as a rule, a 10u of insulin by mistake, could easily be resolved by food if it was 100u by mistake we are trobles :-) It os possible to bolus from your mobile but not the Dash would need to go back to the Eros type!

I’m scared I have diabetes, I am showing a few symptoms and it is really affecting me, I just want to research pumps! To make sure I wanna get a nice pump not a draggable one!

First of all, try not to be scared. If you seriously think you could have a form of diabetes, you should definitely try to see a doctor as soon as possible. If you can get access to a glucose testing meter and test strips, (Drugstores like CVS have their own brand that may be cheaper, and usually comes with a few test strips to start. Sometimes you can even get a free meter by contacting the meter company online or by phone.) you can then check to see if your readings are in the normal range. Another test is only helpful to determine if you are very advanced and in what is called diabetic ketoacidosis, or DKA. (This is mostly an occurrence for type 1’s. Also, ketones can be present in urine for a few other reasons. One is if you are on a very strict, super low carb diet, like the keto diet. That form is called ketosis, which is different from DKA. DKA can eventually cause your organs to shut down.) You would feel very sick, and can look up all the symptoms online. But ketone urine test strips show color if you have ketones spilling into your urine. If you have any along with other symptoms and high blood sugar, I would say you should go to the ER. It is good you are being proactive in researching pumps, but initially, most doctors like you to use shots first. Also, depending on your age, type 1 diabetes (AutoImmune) can manifest differently. In LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults, sometimes referred to as type 1.5) you could not need insulin for weeks, months or even years. As it can be very slow progressing, unlike the typical juvenile onset. I have LADA (I’m 41) as of March this year, but mine was faster progressing than what I’ve read about. I have very little insulin production already. And I also have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, also an autoimmune disease. My body’s immune system is attacking my thyroid. (it still functions for now) Which is like how with T1D the body attacks the pancreas, where insulin is produced. T2’s produce insulin, but the body has a hard time using it. (Research for more details on the differences.) But T2’s early on have the possibility, through diet and exercise, to reverse it, to where as T1’s live with it for the rest of their lives, as their pancreas eventually stops producing any insulin. I also have a 17 year old daughter who was diagnosed at age 7 with T1D. We are the only T1’s that we are aware of in our extended family. Though I now wonder if my dad, a T2 who eventually needed insulin (not all T2’s who need insulin are undiagnosed T1’s, but they estimate a small percentage are) is a LADA like me. As there is a genetic link, but until my diagnosis, we had no idea where from. Past me, still don’t know for sure. The other thing with LADA is it can share characteristics with T2, such as insulin resistance. That along with the slow onset, is why many LADA patients tend to initially get diagnosed as T2. An antibody test is used to confirm a T1, or the AutoImmune form. And from what I was told when I was hospitalized in a hospital that had no endocrinologist on staff, only an endocrinologist (specialist who deals with the endocrine system and hormones, such as insulin and the thyroid) is qualified to properly read the results. A regular doctor can treat diabetes, but for T1, I personally prefer an endocrinologist, who specializes in that, for long term care. They struggled in the hospital to get my glucose under control, as they don’t often get adult onset T1’s. And therefore didn’t understand even as much as I did about that type, having a child with it for 10 years. And this was explained to us in the classes we went to (through the pediatric endocrinology unit at a prestigious university hospital) after my daughter was first diagnosed. That we would eventually know more about how to manage it than non-specializing health professionals. Take what I say with a grain of salt. This is only information from my own experience with my daughter and recently myself. The best first thing you can do any time you have health concerns, (other than seeking a medical opinion and tests) no matter what kind, is to practice anxiety reducing techniques. Fear and stress make it harder for our bodies to heal and our minds to cope. Today, we are so fortunate to have the options for treatment we do in regards to diabetes. Sure, it’d be nice if we had a cure and/or a way to prevent it. But for now, think positively about living in a time with manageable treatment options. It isn’t easy; I don’t want to sugar coat it. (There are other conditions much more complicated to live with though, for certain!) But my daughter and I wouldn’t be alive if we lived a couple hundred years ago. So take comfort in that! It is life changing, but there is a large online community so you will never feel alone if you reach out. And know there is no perfect. It is a journey that has no completion. You learn new things all the time. You have to adjust, and what worked for a few weeks or even months, all of the sudden won’t. So you tweak things. But again, you are not alone. I hope for your sake you do not have diabetes and that there is another less severe reason for your symptoms. But if you do, I wish you much success in finding what works for you!

How nostalgic. I'm planning to change my OmniPod and Medtronic pump to Animas Vibe. I'm trying Animas Vibe now and I love it so much. But I'm worried about supplies, more about cartridges. I am having a major issue with keeping the cannula in me. Everywhere I put it, seems to slip out or something. I've been doing the whole pinch method and everything with extra adhesive too and nothing seems to work. Anyone have experiences with this?

The FDA seems really annoying sometimes xD in Germany we already have a pump that is controlled by you smartphone xD it’s called Dana RS I believe 🙈 the Pump itself is ugly as hell but it seems to have great features xD I would still love for tandem to FINALLY get to the European/ German market 😄

Hi Danica! I have a question about the omnipod. I’m hoping my son gets to trial it out in the near future. I have been researching and understand the minimum amount of insulin is 85 units for 3 days? He currently has 3 units of levemir. And his ratio is 1-22g so typically ranges from 1.5-4 units of insulin each meal so at the very most around 12 units each day. If the pod only lasts 3 days won’t he waste a huge amount of insulin? Or can that insulin be taken back out and used in the next pod? I hope that makes sense! Lol. Thank you x

This is a little late, but I have had an omnipod for almost 8 years and I have found that you can get a lot of unused insulin back out if you find you didn’t use it! You basically just use the needle in the kit to pull it back out from the same spot where you injected it into the pump originally. It’s kind of a pain but better than wasting so much insulin in my opinion haha

how long does the battery last on the dash pdm ? , on the old omnipod that i have that uses aaa batteries they last about a month so i am concerned would i have to charge up the das pdm every day ?

Hi Danica, I'm kinda new to this pump world since I don't live in the US and here in the Dominican is not so popular but I'm looking for a pump that would actually help me control my sugar level, what about a pump that pump the insulin automatically? Do you know any that does this without me having to introduce the amount of insulin my body needs?

I currently switched to the Dexcom from the Freestyle Libre, but for an insulin pump I thought omnipod had an app that ran off the phone.

You can use app for both Dexcom and omnipod (and Dash) on your iPhone. I love the freedom.
