Didn't realise there was a new line of Superoceans, thanks for the video. The upgrade to the bracelet is very welcome, as is the thinner case, other than that my initial impressions are less enthusiastic. I miss the winged logo, the date feature and the red arrow on the second hand. They seemed to have dropped the screwed in bezel too. Overall I think the dial on the outgoing model had a lot more character

Nah the winged logo should be reserved for pilots watches, getting rid of it was one of the few aesthetic changes that actually worked here. Other than that the old Superocean really beats the new one all ends up, and at $2000 cheaper if you look in the right places.

Love this case. Tried it on in a botique and it was incrediby stunning on the wrist. It wore smaller than a 42 due to the lug to lug length.

The older dial and the 3d winged logo looks better and has the enduring look of a classic dive watch. Looks like they wanted to fill in the new dial with all junk they could. The only positive side is the thickness and the bracelet.

Hmmm... I think the new bracelet is a Homerun along w/the bezel and thinner case ... but the older model's look way better to me. The new models dial just looks plain TINY and like they tried to fill in the extra space w/parts-bin parts. I've also read the movements are pretty plain vanilla (38hr power reserves again) and to me don't justify the nearly $5K price tag.

Outgoing the one, I would get! Breitling should just updated the SuperOcean42 to a ceramic bezel with the new quick micro adjustment bracelet and like chromalight blue lume, that should be it!

They should have run the new version under the Heritage lineup. The SO before was so good and close to become a classic. After the 2nd (?) generation, they really naild it with the design. Imagine the 3th gen. of the old SO with a ceramic bezel and no date in a 12/3/6/9 layout....fantastic! And yes this watch is just eye candy, confusing eye candy. Next to the technical downgrades (less atm/caseback no engravings/bezel not screwed/cheap eco friendly packing etc) and the 800$ plus, it feels to me like cheap out and everything against what Breitling had going for. Apropo cheap outs. The only thing they have going for in the new model, might be the new clasp....but....it comes off like an afterthought. It doesnt fit in the vintage hommage style. It is too big, too much a Rolex look a like. And than on top, they have to cheap out even on the branding, no deep engraving or the Breitling wings aplicated, just cheap laser etching. Never seen such cheap stuff at the old Breitlings. By the way, they offered even before this release a miicro adjust clasp with a aplicated Breitling logo.

This is a sport watch which hardly anyone will use to dive with. I wanted to love it…..but……….What they got wrong: No Date, polished center links on bracelet version, 22mm interhorn. I wanted to get The two tone version, rubber strap, which is spectacular but I’ll be buying the Omega SM Pro 300 in Sedna Gold on rubber with a date and 20mm strap. At least I still have my Chronomat from 2004 which I love.

New models are home runs. The bracelets and straps are fantastic. Very competitive with the seamaster and black bay. The new models have a yacht-master touch with all the dial details and strap/bracelet upgrades.

I own the older model( blue dail on a bracelet) that you showed in the video. Like it a lot, I also just bought the new model you showed ( white dail with blue bezel). They are both very good looking watches, but the clasp and case is absolutely an improvement to the older model. The 38 hours power reserve is not a problem for me, because I have 10+watches, so I have to wind the watches most of the time, when I put on a other watch. Great review, it’s the reason I immediately ordered the new model 👍👍👍

I'm usually a bracelet man through and through but in this case I bought a NOS Breitling tropic strap and enjoy the watch alot more than the bracelet

Outgoing... the new iteration appeal is growing on me but still with SW movement and 38hr power reserve and costs an extra $500. There are better divers for half the price even with in house movements. I hope Breitling listen to the feedback on this one.

i like them both. i own the blue bezel/white face 42mm old version. its the most comfortable watch to wear i own. the new one is growing on me too. i dont see why the new clasp couldnt be added to the old model as long as the dimensions work.

I have two of the older ones and I prefer the easier to read dial on the older version. Also, the no date on the new version is a no go for me. I do like the thinner case ,I do not like the new hands at all. The new version does wear nicely.

It's not going to be possible on the 42mm as the lug width has changed to 22mm whereas the older 42mm model had a 20mm lug width. Yet to be determined on the 44mm.

The use of space on the face of the new models looks weird in comparison to the old, there's just a lot of dead space on. If you measure the radius to the outside edge of the bezel, the new models' face isn't even two thirds of the radius. The old models' face is about three quarters of the radius and in much better proportion.

It's a holdover from the design they're basing it off, which was a chronograph with a 60-minute counter around the dial, hence the huge chapter ring. Definitely an odd design without the chronograph.

I think the bracelet and clasp are a big improvement but imo the dial is a backwards step, sort of Doxa/Sinn looking which is not a bad thing but the old dial/hands were much nicer and will age better.

The outgoing was good but boring. It's been improved in many areas, Kern again reflecting on the history of the brand. There was never enough to separate the superocean from the superocean heritage. Now its clear, well done Breitling.

I like the fact that they ditched the date complication. However they downgraded the water resistance from 500M to 300M. The Superocean 44 and 46 also took MASSIVE downgrades in their WR ratings. Granted 300M is more than sufficient but I find it bizarre that they all got downgraded to 300M. The SO46 was rated at 2000M WR!! Makes you wonder exactly what was changed. Also not clear if they did away with the helium escape valve on the 44 and 46 models. Appears they did based on this vid but surprised it was not mentioned.

Not into this redesign at all understanding that’s subjective. Price increase from 4,200 to 4,850 for a 42 with a bracelet and reduction in depth rating from 500m to 300m. Same cosc certified eta movement with a 38hr power reserve. There are better options out there that either fall under that price or a bit more expensive but you get more (in house movement, better power reserve).

The small (indices) face and short hands together with the totally unnecessary extra chapter ring (with numerals), to which the hands don’t reach, looks absolutely ghastly IMO. How is that supposed to improve functionality?? The thinner profile and upgraded clasp are good, but not enough to distract attention from that terrible face and horrible shiny bezel! They really missed a trick here, it looks like a cheap micro brand offering. B have done so well with their new Navitimer and B01 Chrono, and now this!! I’m so disappointed ☹️
