4:52 you nailed the John Patitucci jazz face. The one thing that gets me about Ibanez Basswood bodied guitars is the woofy, diffuse character, and its like you can hear the trem vibrating with the strings.

Thats why the neck through is a better choice. Only the wings are basswood but the center is maple.

I have an identical rg470 in titanium ice as a guide to resale I still have the bill for mine and it cost £500 a price that they still make I have seen them go for 7 or 800

Great video , i have around the same vintage Rg470 reviewed here on my channel but black with the Infinity pickups. But i have the made in Korea model year and would like to hear the difference between the two you have especially the made in japan vs the made in korea versions. A lot of people like the MIJ model 470 better for a few reasons but there are many also who like the MIK 470 models also. Anyway like i said good video/demo and yes i also think the gem sounds better for the more strat like spank and chime than the 470 but the 470 sounded good and a lot like mine as why i'm so curious to hear their comparison.

I bought my Japanese Ibanez Rg 420 in 1998, it´s a good guitar and remember it wasn´t so expensive, I was 18, had a few bucks per week for saving.

So the answer is to buy a used Jem Jr and 'pimp it' slightly. Which is exactly what I did. If the White variant isn't your bag, look for a Jr-SP in Yellow or Pink with the Infinity pups

You make a good point. The white Jem Jr is like a blank canvas, you can do what you want with it. It's a great guitar for the price. 👍🎶

NOT ANY MORE they have gone way up. You can still get Fernandes and Yamahas MIJ pretty cheap. Still worth the price of a vintage one…after you replace the trem, pots, and do some fret work your at the same price as a very good used one. You will also have a much better resale on a MIJ guitar.

im lucky, i have a jem jr and a rg470amh . both great guitars, both play well. the rg is ash and heavier. pickups? so similar cant tell really. maybe the rg has slightly better tone and louder pickups. both great guitars though

just buy the RG, only if it's newer though, the older RG470's had tuning problems. that said, the RG Standard range is no longer made in Japan. only Premium and Prestige range are made in Japan, the RG Standard range was moved to Indonesia.

The Premium are made in Indonesia, always were.. The RG when it started it's life were made in japan from 87 to 92 or 94...then after 94 that Rg was named Prestige and its japanese made till this day. The RG line migrated to korea in 94, then after ended up in Indo.

This RG is from the 2000's japanese series, the third version of the Rg470 series.

Not sure whats going on wiht the purple one, i do know thats not the right tremolo. Either its a newer version with upgraded pickups, or its an older version some one swapped the good older Edge tremolo out for the newer pot metal one but its not the correct stock bridge. They both have the same bridge but the older Edge tremolo is by far better.

The RG470 of that Era (v7 s1 v8 pickups) never had an edge Trem. They were equipped with the LO-TRS (middle tier trem), not to be confused with the absolute garbage LO-TRS-2 trem.
