New Order are an English rock group formed in 1980 by Bernard Sumner (vocals, guitars, synthesizers), Peter Hook (bass, backing vocals, electronic drums) and Stephen Morris (drums, synthesizers).
The band was formed in the wake of the demise of their previous band, Joy Division.
This live is the live which appeared on field Festi Val [FINBSRY] of Britain in 2002.
Moreover, it is the enthusiastic live performed in rainy weather.
*In addition, the subtitles of this video become the Japanese version.

Agree, I am 44 and loved this song since I was a child, when I had no idea about music, bands and styles. Many years later, I became the huge Joy DIvision and New Order fan that I am nowadays. And definitely, this is the song I would like it played in my burial, if this is something you can choose (weird to think in the song of your burial, isn´t it?)

Ian Curtis was truly gifted, but without Bernard and hooky and Stephen there is no joy division either. They have every right to play the song. it is their song

More over Ian Curtis was their friend. If anyone could do this song, it is them - If this is how they chose to honour his memory, then no one, NO ONE, is allowed to say otherwise. This is their song.

So much hostility towards New Order, fuckin hell, you should be glad this can be heard live by members of Joy Divison. Yes, Ian put a lot of emotion into this song and made it very powerful but, lets not forget, without these 3 men you never would have heard of Ian Curtis, they are the ones who approached him to join their band in the first place. And Ian was going to quit anyway, to him Joy Division was only Unknown Pleasures, he never wanted a second album let alone world wide success. I'm very happy to have NO, they still have the JD sound somewhere in each of their songs and they keep Ian alive by still singing JD songs. I would be stuck listening to this on record if not for NO, maybe Bernard doesn't put enough emotion into it but the lyrics have enough of that and that's all I ask for.

It was only two guys, Sumner and Hook, they hadn't found a drummer at the time, they didn't ask him to join they just told Ian they were starting a band, he then told them he would like to join. Research, it's all in Ian's widow's book and all over the internet.

that's a sweet sweet sg junior- and people: after forming one of the most influential post punk bands of all time, individually developing super group level musicianship, releasing two classic albums, enduring the death of an iconic lead singer, continuing on in a new iteration of the band that expanded its sound and influence, eventually becomin one of the best and most influential bands of all time AGAIN while releasing many classic singles and albums- after all this don't you think they've earned the right to do whatever/play whatever the fuck they want!

The comparisons of JD (Ian) vs NO (Bernard) are ridiculous ... obviously Ian and Bernard differ greatly in their singing styles. Just accept it for what it is ... a NO version of JD's great Atmosphere. Both are great. Using the flawed reasoning of folks, Peter Hook's renditions of JD and NO (recent tours) would also receive a lot of criticism. They too are versions of previous original hits sung by someone else! I love them all be cause I am a JD AND New Order fan.

The keyboard in this classic sums up both lyrics and life ... the tender, fragile hope that keeps us going even though we know it's useless . And the moment when the illusion falls apart for good and we are left with eternal loss, nothing to hope for and no way out. Still ... it's a mythical atmosphere that brings me closer to life.

Have to agree, this is a great performance of a great song. Not sure why people have to hang the baggage of Ian onto it. Far too much reverence around Ian. He was simply a poor soul whose illness got the better of him. Life has to go on and New Order moved on and up.

Its Ian's song you TWAT. And why bother to do a COVER VERSION of a song if all youre gonna do is fuck it up with lame screams? Answer: the singer is a twat just like you. If life has to go on, as you like it, then dont do the song.
