The movie's name is Chungking Express and it's a great celebration of Hong Kong's culture as a city between worlds through snippets of people's everyday lives in a grand tapestry of a story. Additionally, it has lots of allegories to the city transitioning from British to Chinese dominion. 10/10 would recommend

Way back in 97 i was out clubbing one night and just feeling particularly at peace, which was something i did nt normally feel back in those days. suddenly this song came on and it was just a moment of pure bliss, right at that moment a friend came over and introduced me to a couple of people he was with. that was the first time i ever met her, about a year later we got an apartment together, it was my first time ever living with a girlfriend and this song always takes me back. back to young love, back to living as a couple rather than solo, back to being in my twenties rather than my fifties, back to the 90s even though the 80s are my true home. such a magical song.

I just watched Chunking Express for the first time and can't even begin to describe how it made me feel. Also fell in love with Tony Leung. I watched In the mood for love way before but good god is this man so attractive. Love all three of them really. The second half kinda pulled at my heartstrings even though the dynamics weren't so heavy. Like I'm missing out on the people I could fall in love with. Really made me want to be carefree and fall in love so bad! :/

exactly, from Japanese language's perspective, Chinese characters are called "Kanii". An explanation from wikipedia: "Kanji or kan'ji, are the adopted logographic Chinese characters that are used in the modern Japanese writing system along with hiragana and katakana. The Japanese term kanji for the Chinese characters literally means "Han characters" and is written using the same characters as the Chinese word hànzì." In this sense, kanji is just a subset of Chinese characters, you can call kanji as Chinese characters, but cannot call Chinese characters as kanji. And the second reason is the characters actually I'm using are simplified Chinese characters which were established during 1950s by the People's Republic of China government. The kanji are only about traditional characters. traditional: 漢字, simplified: 汉字. see the difference? For the building blocks, I don't have a good explanation but I'll try. 林 means many trees, 森 means many tree but more and more. Actually, in modern Chinese, people never really use the single characters, 森林 as a combination means "forest". So go back to the English name of this movie, the translation doesn't really correspond to the exact meaning in Chinese. But this situation happen. 重庆(the pronunciation is Chong Qing) is just a city in South western part of China. If you have seen this movie, you will know this movie doesn't even have anything to do with ChongQing the city. There is only a building called Chongqing Dasha in Hong Kong, where this story in the movie happen. Chongqing Dasha is probably the cheapest place you can get a hotel room. so as you can imagine, the population density there is pretty high and you can meet all kinds of weird and foreign people everyday. So the true meaning of this title "重庆森林" are there are so many buildings like chongqing dasha and they become a forest and people living there like living in a forest, they hunt, they pursue for money for food.. etc.

I'm 43 and grew up HATING this music, the music my Sister LOVED. I was 10, she was 15. Before you know it (after hearing New Order, The Smiths, Erasure, The House Martins, etc..), I was playing her tapes and CDs (CDs had just cone out mainstream) while she was out with her friends!! Next thing you know, I'm blasting the "Queen is Dead" album and wearing her New Order shirt around my friends.. One day she comes up to my friends and I and says "Why are you wearing MY New Order Shirt?!" It was sooo embarrassing!! Anyhoo, long story short, that's how I came to love this music.
