Drug Error Scenario
While doing your bedtime drug round as the primary nurse to the patient, you’ve noticed that the patient was given amoxicillin at the evening round despite the fact that the patient have been documented to be allergic to penicillin. The patient confirms the allergy during the safety checks. You recognize the signature of the nurse who gave the medication that the patient is allergic to. No other person has noted or been informed of the error as you are the only other nurse attending to the patient since the medication was given. How will you approach the situation?
