NEW Otis GEN3 MRL Traction Elevators at The Drury Plaza Hotel Palms Tower in Lake Buena Vista, FL

Welcome to the Disney Spring's area's NEWEST Hotel! The Drury Plaza! This hotel just OPENED in December of 2022, and upon visiting this hotel, I have to say that it is a very nice property! For those of you who didn't know, this hotel was previously a Best Western property that was built in 1972, and the elevators were US originally and later modernized into Montgomery Elevators with Monitor fixtures. Unfortunately I never made it on the previous elevators here, fast forward to 2020, this hotel closed for 2 years of renovations as well as the expansion adding a whole new tower to the hotel, and during the renovations, the existing hotel was COMPLETELY GUTTED and the original hotel elevators were either converted into service elevators or just Flat Out removed, and now this hotel has 2 New Banks of Otis Elevators!
These elevators are located in the Palm Tower of the Hotel, the EXTENSIVELY Renovated Original 19 story tower, and these elevators are my 2ND EVER Otis Gen3 Elevators EVER! As far as I know, these are ALSO the VERY FIRST Otis Gen3 Elevators to ever be installed in the Orlando area, which getting to ride these when I did was definitely pretty cool since while they may not be common yet, I know these will SOON be EVERYWHERE in the Orlando area (as a matter of fact with Epic Universe opening next year, we're gonna have a bunch of them in the new hotels in just a few months from now) and I'll get to where I find these to be absolutely boring, just like how I have with Newer Otis Gen2s. With that being said though, excitement/boring factor aside, Otis did a EXCELLENT Job on this installation, and these elevators are EASILY some of the SMOOTHEST MRL Traction Elevators I've EVER been on rivaling Mitsubishi DiamondTrac's! The New Gen3 MRL Traction Motors also make a very nice noise too! Fixture wise these are rather generic, but I do love the chimes! And interestingly, despite being Otis Gen3 and having the Gen3 Lanterns inside the cars, on the outside, they have the regular Otis Lanterns with the Gen2/Series 5-"7" chime. I have no idea why these elevators were installed like this with two different chimes like this, but it does definitely add some uniqueness to what is otherwise a reliable and solid feeling but basic set of elevators.

ooooh you found some overslung Gen3s! overslung Gen2s have always been absolutely top notch in terms of ride quality and performance, and once you ride enough of them, you can feel how it's smoother and softer than the still amazingly smooth underslung installs. schindler, TKE, and idk about Kone don't even offer overslung equipment without hitting machine room territory.

what is overslung?

@@SamSitar overslung is roping a traction elevator like a traditional gearless machine would be: machine centered above the car, highly durable, with a crossbeam. every other model from the other brands, including gen3 underslung, has the machine on the side of the rails, right next to the counterweight. to learn more about overslung, JimLiElevators has a great cartop video on Gen3 Peak. to learn more about underslung, Jowevator3219 has a great cartop video on a gen2 underslung. otis's website lists this in detail too.
