New out of box 2020 Tohatsu 9.8hp break-in. 4/16/23

First start-up of Tohatsu 9.8hp outboard. New out of box 2020 motor.

Thanks for the vid! Just picked mine up from the Washington Marina in DC. The tech there said the motor should really be broken in under load or "in gear" and warned about trying the first two hours of break in done in the tub as I had planned as the tub cavitates too much to provide a real load. thoughts?

I've broke in a few motors now and all run fine. Vary speed every few minutes with-in guidelines. And I use large tanks.

I think the thinking for breaking in under load considers that the prop and gears are moving, and pushing against load, so this helps those components 'settle' under real world conditions. This will maximize the longevity by ensuring even wear on those parts.
