This video is Financial 101 of how not to make decisions for future planning. Keep your vehicle for at least 15 years and retire early. Trust me folks, material items get boring and lose excitement very quickly which usually turns into buyers remorse.

Take how much you pay for one month for your home loan, then multiply that by the 3, then take that number and divide by 12. Then pay that amount extra every month toward your home loan, make a note on the electronic payment saying the extra is to go all to the principal. You will be paying 3 extra notes a year and it will make your 30yr home loan into a 12yr home loan and then you are step 1 into being able to retire early. My dad retired at 58yrs old and all his coworkers asked him how he was able to retire early and he said, your bills make you work, so pay off your bills and you don't need a lot to pay off your bills each month and to enjoy the lifestyle you want. I built my 16'x24' tiny home in 2012 at 32yrs old and then added to it each year and continue to do so. It was paid cash $25K when I built it and now I am scheduled to retire at 47yrs old with 25yrs in my firefighter career. Because no wife, no kids, no child support, no alimony, no palimony, and I paid off my motorcycle. Keep your bills low and you don't need a lot to live. My house is 480 square foot living and 1800 square feet total with a huge screened in porch, carport, fire pit awning, shed, and fenced in courtyard . This year i'm doubling my screened in porch and adding an outdoor shower and heated, jetted, free standing tub to the porch overlooking my firepit and backyard. Next year i'm making a 20'x20' covered outdoor kitchen. Every year I do one house project with my savings account. I will add on to it from 2012 to 2027 so 15yrs of add ons/projects then I will get a 21' long utility trailer and make it into a custom toy hauler RV to tow my motorcycle with to travel the country about 4 times a year doing about 4-6 weeks camping, riding my motorcycle all day, coming back to the camper, cooking, eating, enjoying bourbon by the fire pit and having friends come with their campers too and seeing the country. Hopefully at 47yrs old in 2.5yrs. You can't buy a new truck every 3yrs, get the biggest house the bank will allow you to have, have a boat, RV, and so on and retire early unless you inherited money. But for a firefighter with only 1 job and I NEVER take overtime, retiring at 47yrs old is DANG good. Your bills make you work.
@joeetlinger342313 күн бұрын
Whats he's saying is whether you buy new or used, and keep for 3 years or 15 years, all that matters is the total cost of ownership, which for a 3 year old truck bought new, will be his buy price minus the private sale price. Holding onto it longer, beyond the factory warranty period, will include buy and sale price, and non routine maintenance and repair costs. The advantage of Jason's model is he's always driving a newer, reliable vehicle. The downside is, you have to take meticulous care in order to get top dollar for your private sale, and deal with a lot of tire kickers until you find the right low information buyer who will pay nearly the same amount for your 3 year old truck as what you paid for it brand new, because said buyer does not know how or where to buy new vehicles at a discount.

@GRANTKEEL Sounds like a good plan. I just put my xterra in storage as we live in a winter climate state and aren't putting much on it a year anymore (5k) I have a sedan for most work commutes, set up with winter tires, when necessary. And I have my pickup for all the projects I do, the dogs, dirty loads, towing, etc. My wife has a car as well for all her driving. I put about 35-40k a year on my stuff so I'm hoping I can keep this truck for some time. One of the forums I was just on for the Titan were sharing their odometers.. lots of 400,000 a 627,000 odometer showing up there gives me long term hope. The way to use the Payment as leverage... Know what the payment will be by checking before you walk onto the lot.. And use the payment to make them give you a better deal..How? You stick to your payment...If you know your payments will be $400 go in and tell them you will buy today for $350/mo and stick to it even if it means walking away to another dealership, getting up to leave is powerful when they know your a qualified buyer. But the key is making them work to make the deal at the $350... Being a payment buyer works when you know how to work it...
@benblakeney741813 күн бұрын
100% agree! The payment is a byproduct of the price. If you do your budgeting before you shop, you can figure it all out and then just focus on the OTD price. Eliminates their games. For financing, shop at your local bank, credit union, and/or insurance company before you go shopping for your car. This allows you to know your best interest rate. Once you have the OTD and they send you back to the finance manager, you can tell them your interest rate and see whether they can beat it. If you're doing a new car, sometimes the OEM will offer subverted rates to help move a car.

Any midsize truck that is 2WD that is sold should never have a MSRP over 35k, after discounts and negotiating you should be out the door under 30k, they are literally the most useless vehicles in 90% of the US, it is baffling that places it snows even get them for inventory🤯💀 I agree you should never negotiate a payment because dealerships will absolutely mess around with the Buy Rate. The difference between a buy rate of .0235 and .0310 is a massive difference. Ask for the best OTD price and ignore any question that has to do with “what payment are you looking for” because dealers will make it so that you get that payment even if you could have gotten it for cheaper they will screw you everytime if you’re a payment first shopper.

When you buy on time you are paying for the vehicle plus interest. When you instead save for your purchase you are earning interest, not paying interest. Don't get on the monthly payment treadmill, it is the road to poverty. Pay cash for a beater as your first vehicle, then make "payments" into your high-yield savings account over the life of that beater to have the cash for its eventual replacement. Continue that process over your lifespan and you will be so far ahead of the interest paying losers.
@CS-zz2bf13 күн бұрын
100% agree with this, and anyone who leases vehicles (I have leased a lot of vehicles over the years) you never say I want my payment to be (fill in the blank). Contact the dealer, ask what the current residual is on the car for a 12k/36 lease and what the money factor is and what bank those quotes are through. that’s all you need to know…. With leases a lot of people don’t understand how it works and focuses on monthly payment and also don’t understand the residuals and money factor differ from bank to bank. The sticker price is always negotiable
