I like the sound of sky keys, but: those sounds are sooo wide! if you switch your mix to mono, those sounds get so quite. how do you guys handle this?

The stereo imager settings on the Matra changed according to the presets I was looking through. To make sure I do not have any phasing issues, I usually mix in mono. I do not like wide sounds because I think every sound has to have its own space and dimension, so panning is crucial.
