Afraid I know where much of my next check is going. I really want one of these in honor of my Grandmother. She was one of those famous Rosie Riveters during WW2 building C-47's at the Douglass facility in Oklahoma. She made a ring out of the metal used. It's really nice and shows her ability. I value that ring as well as her memory. My Grandmother and the C-47 were both classics that help save the United States.

I've been waiting for a good review of this pen! Thanks for the mini history lesson as well as all the details that make your reviews so helpful.

I spent 4 years in the 82d ABN , never jumped out of one of those.

I am in love with this pen. I bought a fountain pen in the military green, and a gell roller in the flame color. Love using rollers when I actually take my pens out and then the fountain pens when I sit down to do some longer form writing so I usually get one each when they're in this price range.

Hi Brian! Really like the looks of the C-47 pen! As an aviation enthusiast, and combination of hobbies is most welcome! Thanks for the head's-up!

A nice tribute, and one of my favorite form factors. I’m very impressed they managed to fit a full size converter! I do however wish the clip was spring loaded.

Nice pen and a worthy tribute subject. Now I just need to convince myself I need a new pen, with a collection of over a hundred, that gets more difficult each time. Thanks for the review Brian.

I do like the DC-3 / C-47, that was such a workhorse both in war and peace. The Dakota was what the RAF called the C-47. And there are still a few WW2 era DC-3s, including some Dakotas, flying commercially. I've got a buddy that before the place got so unstable went on medical aid missions to Port-au-Prince and the last leg of the journey they always flew in an updated DC-3. I looked up the registration number and it had been a Dakota during the war. I think I'll have to get a couple of these.

Nice glad they offer a gel rollerball option. Love the military vibe.

What I concern is the torched oxidization layer would wear even faster than on Kaweco Fireblue since it is fiction fit, both posting and capping. Would get a military green if I find reason to get a new FP for its distinctive look, but the shade is also slightly different from my impression.

Really nice. Sensible price. (I don't tend to go for fancy 'luxury' pens, this is definitely my style)

Looking through photos of the plane, the flame colored version references pretty well the look of the exhaust ports on the engine. Well done.

What's the deal with Goulet selling "non-fountain" pens? Rollerballs and such?

Here it comes...the inevitable trivial comment. The C47 was nicknamed the Gooney Bird, and yes it was a military version of the DC-3. Here's the free triviology. The white stripes were painted on all Allied Planes for the sole purpose of making it easier to identify "Friend of Foe" during the Normandy invasion. The allies put 12,000 planes in the air during Operation Overlord and the fear was Germany would answer with 1000's of Luftwaffe Aircraft. As it turned out, the Luftwaffe was a spent force. In spite of that, the allies still suffered alot of friendly fire casualties. Back to the good side of history, C-47's performed the largest Airborne Assault in history...almost 30,000 men in the middle of the night, in the midst of a terrible storm, with no lights or ground support. The initial estimate was the Allies would lose 80% of their Airborne Forces. When Eisenhower was updated on the strategic condition of the invasion and was told that casualties were only 20% for Airborne Jumpers, General Eisenhower wept.

Darn...I'm such a sucker for anything military...since my daughter is married to a retired AF dude, whom I adore. I caved and got it. I have to stop watching you Brian. You are forcing me to use $$$ I've been saving for the Chicago Pen Show in '25...my first pen show EVER!

Monteverde = automatic pass for me. I’ve only ever had trouble from them.
@sajjadhusain41462 ай бұрын
Seconded! Ditto Conklin. Monteverde pens are almost always affordably priced, yes, but equally crappy, mainly owing to the abysmal nibs. QC is shoddy. Designs are meh. Monteverde should stick to making the fairly decent line of bottled inks they put out. The pens are a waste of money. This is the reason why Monteverde pens are seen frequently on sale at discounted prices at some U.S. retailers - including of course at GPC. They might as well give the pens away free.

@@sajjadhusain4146 Well certainly not my experience over the last 3 years. 3 Conklins all under $100 MSRP some of the best XFs in my collection which numbers around 100, with 20ish inked at any one time.
@theprof_0012 ай бұрын
I have had the same issues with these brands. I agree with you.
@alanpareis7342 ай бұрын
I have not had problems. 3 Conklins in the last 3 years, among the best xfs in my accumulation of about 100 pens. Based on this experience I am seriously considering a Dakota, though Lord knows I don’t need another pen.
