A secondary theme to SV that I noticed recently, and has been cemented by Pecharunt’s backstory, is “the consequence of greed/obsession”. -Sada/Turo became obsessed with their research and it not only cost them their lives, but almost the lives of you, Nemona, Penny, and their own son Arven (let’s also not forget the neglect and struggles this boy has been through because of their absence), as well as potentially Paldea’s ecosystem. -The Treasures of Ruin were brought to life and given form from items by the greed of other people, and the greed of Paldea’s king in particular was the straw that broke the camel’s back, causing great calamity across the region and causing the empire’s collapse. -Kieran’s obsession with Ogerpon led to him acting rashly and selfishly when he found out we had met her and were actively keeping it a secret from him, resulting in the loyal three being revived, and when she wants to leave Kitakami with us, ignoring Ogerpon’s feelings and demanding that the winner of the battle is the one to get her. After he loses that last battle in Kitakami he becomes obsessed with becoming stronger to the point where he’s willing to push his family and friends away and sacrifice his own health to train. Later in the Underdepths when he’s starting to come out of his shell again, he quickly relapses at the sight of Terapagos, quickly master balling it and trying to beat us with it. When that fails and Briar, completely oblivious to Kieran’s current state of mind this entire time, enthusiastically encourages him to terastalize it, things go wrong and everyone is put in danger. Things work out in the end, and everything could’ve been avoided if we weren’t forced to lie to Kieran, but that’s besides the point I’m getting at. -I don’t need to explain Pecharunt and the Loyal Three, that’s what this video is for lol. All though, it is worth noting how this recontextualizes Pecharunt to be almost child like in nature (fitting for a momotaro parallel). Makes Mochi Mayhem feel sort of like a tantrum. Pecharunt, possibly unaware of its current situation, is taking control of people to try and tear the town apart to keep looking for the masks for the old couple, and it sees us as obstacles.

I think the more we see of the pokemon world, very very few pokemon are defined as fully evil, I think if they were there would be no way to truly befriend them. I think things could have ended up differently if it even realized what it was doing with the mochi which I think it realized when we fight it in game as I bet it's angry due to all the time locked up and realizing it had failed.

I think the trope that best describes Pecharunt here is “Even Evil Has Loved Ones.” The Pokémon itself is very greedy and clingy, but it also had people it loved very much. In fact, I think the whole “wants to be loved” schtick present in this video helps make sense of the Mochi Mayhem storyline. Pecharunt was trying to turn Kitakami into a cult that worships it, which is definitely not the mark of a “good” Pokémon.

@mattheworozco5929 Жыл бұрын
In a way, the three dlc legends seem to represent a different taro of legend. Pecharunt represents Momotaro, as seen in his data name, appearance and backstory. Ogrepon could be the ogre in Pecharunt’s story, but in a different light, she could Kintaro, an orphaned child of immense strength who was raised in the mountains by a man who was seen as a monster. Which leaves Terapagos. Despite being a Paldea legend rather than a kitakami, never mind the fact that all three of them don’t originate from kitakami, he could be the tale of Urashimataro. But the turtle in the story was the princess that led the titular character to the dragon palace for treasures, similar to how terapagos’ abilities and stories led sada and Turo to area zero to unlock the secrets of terastal energy and the time machine.

They said before Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti wanted strength, brainpower, and attractiveness respectively, but this makes it seem that Okidogi was already strong (since it was trusted to carry the gifts), Munkidori already had brainpower (since it could see into the future using psychic power), and Fezandipiti could already attract others (due to its pheromones). It looks like Pecharunt didn’t grant their wishes, but rather made them more of what they were already. It’s a tainted version of the trope of someone wishing for something only for it to turn out they already had it.

Kieran was at Peachy's when we were forced to lie to him, remember? That's where Pecharunt was lying dormant. I feel like Pecharunt was able to muster the strength to create one Binding Mochi, not even at its full strength, but just enough to do _something._ I could see it feeling sorry for Kieran after overhearing that we lied to him, and wanting to cheer him up with the mochi the old couple so loved. It didn't turn his eyes purple, but it did infuse him with some of Pecharunt's power, it drew out his greed for more power, since he consistently lost to us, and when he punched the Loyal Three's shrine, we see a bit of that power leaking out, and that's probably what did it. The Toxic Chains reacted to that power, and revitalized those who wore them.

Since pechrant is also unaware of its ability to bring out the worse of others. With this delusion. They harmed ogrepon. All this for love. and thus ogrepon with vengeance Killed them. Childlike innocence who just wanted to seek love and affection. But has an ability that it appears to be unaware of to bring out the greed of everyone..... So it was doomed to be corupted by other people's dark corruption that the others didnt even mean to do.... Wow... I had a feeling they where gonna dispell the evil pokemon stigma the 4 had but i didnt expect this. Since all pokemon are not evil but just a force of nature or manifestation of emotions not govern by the concept of right or wrong. I was wondering what they would do as a twist. To bring pecharunt and its 3 retainers to a "force of nature" so yes the creation trio, the weather trio. Dark rai, marshado, lugia etc etc yes they all created destruction and restoration, but its all purely as if they are a force of nature. A hurricane , a volcano eruption claiming lives. Or the concept of self-preservation, a war of defense, the will to live when they is only enough food left for only some people. Thats like a Baby seeking love and warmth from its parent and community but it has a cursed or aura placed on it that brings a drug like misfortune to others.

I love that they seem to be bringing more lore I hope they continue with these great stories. It would be nice to finally have them connect the other regions and make the Pokemon world feel like one world. I do like Dokutaro but Ogrepon is my favorite they made her seem so badass in that video as well.

I love how they made Pecharunt like Darkrai. Darkrai doesn’t mean to give people nightmares, it just possess that power and is unable to control it. Just like that I don’t think Pecharunt is evil, he just has the power to bring out the greed within people using its poisonous mochi that it gives to the old people as a form of gratitude maybe? Regardless i love how no one is evil in this story. THE MOCHI is to blame 😂

I guess that explains why Perchuant was trying to mind control everyone. It was making an army to attack ogrepon abd have revenge. Heck when we chase him, he's at the loyal tree monument, that is now destroyed (presumably seeking his old companions).

technically Ogrepon and Pecharunt is not at fault here because they have good intention and reasons why they did those things. In Pecharunt's defense he just like to please the old couple who is taking advantage of him because he loves his family. And in Ogrepon's defense, they killed the only friend she have and stole their masks. So bottom-line, I think the one who is fault here is the greed of the old couple. Too bad that this lore drop is not available in game, I mean it is well fitted on the epilogue?
@GustavoJua15 Жыл бұрын
The couple's greed itself came about due to the mochi they were fed. So it was Pecharunt's own power which came back to bite the poor little guy.
@Gimas96 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be surprised if the old couple desires came from pecharunt itself,he wished to gift the couple these items and the mind controlled couple asked for what pecharunt wanted to gift them.The story infact say that "Pecharunt was tired of the usual wishes and he was happy when the couple asked him to bring them the masks",pecharunt wanted to gift the couple with the masks and the mind controlled couple asked for the masks.This story confirm that all that mess were caused by a selfish and egotistic pokemon.
@Voidbear_FNaF_and_Undertale Жыл бұрын
there's no bad guys in the backstory. Pecharunt UNINTENTIONALLY made the couple greedy and just wanted to fulfill their wishes, and Ogerpon was justified to be vengeful after being robbed and had her human killed. Now, why Pecharunt made the land of Kitakami do the chicken dance, no idea. It still could be the bad guy then. But in the backstory, there's no intentional evil.

Pecharunt's mochi effect, which affects one's greed means that The Loyal Three really weren't being controlled after all. They got what they wanted from Pecharunt, but they stayed with Pecharunt because the little peach was their precious friend. They were loyal after all. They were only ever subjugated as a retainer when Ogerpon attacked.
@IAmMissingnoMaster3 ай бұрын
I'm not even sure they were subjugated there, either. Pecharunt fed them all Binding Mochi, yeah, but notice none of their eyes turn purple (I thought Fezandipiti's did for a moment at first, but that's just how his eyelids normally look). I don't think Binding Mochi has the same effect on Pokémon that have Toxic Chains. I think it was more a quick pre-battle power-up
@thexdestroyer7742 Жыл бұрын
If you think about it this happened because pecharunt didn’t understand it’s own power which caused it to make a life ending mistake. Also by knowing the full story neither pecharunt or Ogrepon are good but neither of them are evil it’s all just a misunderstanding.

Poor Pecharunt. It made the mochi for the old couple but didn’t have the heart to completely brainwash them. And when they got greedy, it couldn’t refuse them. Eventually they asked for something they didn’t have a right to. Ogrepon lost its companion, Pecharunt lost everyone it cared about, and nobody ended up with what they wanted. I love a sad ending! 😭

I really like this take on the story you feel bad for Pecharunt but also for Ogerpon and the loyal three? They are just the puppets on this story
@isadoraalvarez9767 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s so interesting that the reason we see pecharunt as evil is because we saw ogerpon’s side first. We grew attached to ogerpon first. Maybe pecharunt wouldn’t be the ‘subjugation’ Pokémon if we met it first. Just as the villagers saw only the loyal 3’s dead bodies and their fear of ogerpon already they assumed ogerpon was evil and the loyal 3 were good we assumed pecharunt was evil and ogerpon was good. I just think it’s so intresting that they chose to withhold this information until AFTER we met pecharunt. It must have been like how the villagers had to change their perspective about ogerpon
@tranatkikomi6873 Жыл бұрын
The difference is the villagers already feared Ogerpon. The events of the night the masks were stolen only “cemented their fears” and justified their views even though Ogerpon and her friend never did anything except arrive at the village and then quietly retreat to a den in the mountain because clearly they weren’t welcome in the village. We first see Pecharunt use its mochi to control everyone in Mossui Town except Kieran and MC. And even before meeting it, we see that the Loyal Three were Retainer Pokémon, so someone had to have subjugated them somehow.

I love this story! Pecharunt wanted to make the old couple happy and Ogerpon and her companion were unfortunately caught up in it. The way I see it, it's an sad story of misunderstanding. It's not like Pecharunt set out looking to cause harm. I feel for both Ogerpon and Pecharunt. Also, Pecharunt didn't seem to be aware the effect its mochi had in the past. I thought the story would've taken a turn like Pecharunt trying to manipulate the old couple for evil reasons, but it instead went out of its way to bring them stuff just to gain their love. Maybe Pecharunt's will and emotions are somehow being displayed through those who eat its mochi. The reason the old couple became greedy might be because Pecharunt was also greedy for love and affection. And the Loyal Three were able to befriend Pecharunt because its will was to have companions on its journey for safety and comfort. By the time we play the DLC, it possibly learned how to better control that power. What a neat story, Gamefreak did an amazing job with Scarlet and Violet's story and characters. I hope to see more deep, lore-driven stories like this in future Pokémon games!

Hey TTar, this backstory leaves out some things, like how the Loyal Three were seen to be bragging about taking the masks, and how when you use any of the Loyal Three against Pecharunt, it reveals special dialog, so I believe that the full story has been changed throughout time and the original story is unknown.

Honestly, maybe the multiple 8s in Pecharunt's stats are to make it look like chains. I love stories where no side is truly evil. While it was obviously bad of Pecharunt to use its mochi on the couple and his retainers, it seems like he genuinely didn't understand there was a problem with that.
