By utilizing an RO membrane before the DI resin, you can bring your water to near zero, and thus, stretch your resin even farther. There are some trade-offs however. 1. No RO system can operate tankless and keep up with a 2 GPM flowrate requirement. 2. Cost - eventually you breakeven because of resin usage, but this solution would have a high buy in cost. 3. You do use more water since you are essentially flushing all the particles out with the waste water. A RO setup may not be worth it if your tap water isn't that bad, but in AZ we start at near 600 PPM out of the tap, so our resin doesn't last very long. And because of summer heat, I use DI water for my entire wash process instead of just the rinse. Suds-N-Go has a full commercial system ready to go, but I've been working on a DIY solution for myself. My resin now stretches into years vs a single season. DIY solution is very similar to what professional window washers use, with the additional of a 50 gallon catch tank before my power washer.

I’m in AZ as well and have been looking into solutions to stretch the life of my di resin I’m at 640ppm lol. What has been the solution you found ?

@@randyvalenzuela5336 I built a DIY RO filtration system. Cost me about 1500 all said and done, but I figured it’s either spend the money on a system to stretch the resin, or spend it on resin itself.

Jamie, I think you might consider putting two splitters to create a bypass for the water rather than the quick connect you are using. Just a thought

Very nice. We have some EXTREMELY hard water we draw from our well. I'd like to get something like this when I finish out my shop someday. In fact, a water softener and this are necessities I would say.

Nice mod. I had the same setup as you until I realized that whenever I switched from spraying DI to spraying tap water for soap rinsing, I was wasting 100ft. of DI water that was left in the pressure washer(PW) hose & pushed out during normal washing. Then it would have to fill that 100' hose again with DI water to do the next DI rinse. It's more economical to just use your dedicated 100' PW hose for all washing and soap rinsing & have a shorter hose (preferably only a 50 or 75ft 1/2" I.D. rather than standard 3/4" garden hose ID) dedicated for your final DI rinse that you'll keep connected to DI output. Now your DI output hose will remain full with DI water ready for the next use. Also, use a 1-to-2 splitter on your main water hose so you can feed the inputs of PW & DI tanks at the same time & turn on only whichever you're using at the time. Minimizes time swapping quick connects and waiting for the DI water to get pushed to the end of your 100' PW hose. Unless you have really bad water pressure in your area, usually it's enough PSI for a DI rinse off. To me, having that 1 output hose convenience just wasn't worth wasting all that DI water given the price of the media.

CR Spotless is a freaking rip off. I can't stand them. Look up RV tanks. Much cheaper and better. Then, you can hook up an RO system to it piggy backed and bam! A whole lot more filtered water!

With 400ppm tds why don’t you look into a 1.5 cu ft tank? You can buy your own door ~200 and replace the resin after it’s exhausted and you’ll get 800 gallons easily. Or look into a provider like puretec that sells you a tank ready to go for about $600 (tank, resin, fittings) and everytime it’s exhausted you trade it in for a fresh one for $60.

I've been looking at this setup for about a year and getting ready to pull the tiger because distilled water is getting quite expensive and our water is hard here. Since I do not have a continuous water source at the moment I plan on using my Active52 inside my rental and fill up five gallon containers for use with my Hyrdoshot. In the near future I hope to have a 60 gallon tank setup inside the detached garage as well to fill up buckets and my new IK PPF sprayer. #TRCMA

I'm genuinely curious why not. I have been considering a DI system to improve my workflow by letting it air dry. I have low TDS on my tap, so I would expect to get a true 0ppm. Is the risk collecting dust or pollen in the water drops and thus having spotting?
