It’s not just the first time. Even after registering there will still be times it will request you to repeat the process. Sometimes by error. The handshake sometimes has problems. I’ve witnessed it already when someone was dropped out of their game and the message came up saying they needed to register the drive as if they were using it for the first time🤷

Only for the initial drive installation then you can stay disconnected and still use it. It's been a thing since the PS3 all the drive logic boards are paired to the motherboard so you can't Use a modified drive. The Xbox is the same. The 360 actually got its drive hacked to play pirated games

OG PS5 will out live the slim because after a cetain amount of time there will be no way to pair disc drives to the slim when sony shuts down there ps5 servers. You want to reset your ps5 slim then you will have to connect to the internet to pair the drive again. Have a 2nd backup drive if the first one fails you'll need to connect to the internet to pair that drive. All well and good if sony spends there money to keep the servers on so you can pair another drive. Long term this is e-waste unless they the modders fix this by jailbreaking the ps5 slim.

Clearly this makes the PS5 SLIM disposable junk. But will they do this internet required shit with the PS5 PRO. It won't be easy to get a OG PS5 owners aren't giving those up. They see the long term problem with slim. I was going to buy a slim until i found out about internet required nonsense sony added a problem. So i got an OG PS5 not getting ropped into internet required F$CKING BULL$HIT.
