Thomas Wildes was a pewterer in Philadelphia before moving to NYC in 1834,so those counterstamps were probably done after being struck at the 2nd Philadelphia Mint which actually opened in 1833.There's only 4 half cent 1833 of his counterstamps known to exist

On the 1924-S Peace $, I have to ask why don't the album slide marks on the coin result in a Details grade. I'm think of the analogy with the reality of wheel marks causing a Details grade.

Can you give any guidance on when to pay significantly higher than retail for a great coin? What should I watch out for when paying more for that coin? Does it just come down to personal opinion and one's budget? When should I wait to purchase such a coin?
