You should have tried to set it on fire! Those motors are notoriously terrible. That's why the fuse plug is provided - there were several house and barn fires attributed to these fans. After the motor sits there locked up for a while, it starts getting too hot and belches fire.... which quickly sets the plastic grate and blade alight.
