@@AsheeBree Thanks for the suggestion, we've done a collab with Birdtricks before, and we love the work they do teaching pet owners the basics of positive reinforcement training and behavior modification. With the combo of our knowledge and our expert friends, we're looking forward to a great future for these three beauties.

The little fella is boisterous, curious & clever, He is precious. if all three click, it will be so good for their QOA, & could prove interesting in teaching about this bird and its intricate social skills, memory & love , adoration of bling { all things shiny }.. My favorite quip about ravens is this, "if you see a big black bird and think it might be a raven then it's probably a crow because when you see how big a raven is you won't 'think' it's a raven, there will be no doubt in your mind"
@3nertia4 жыл бұрын

I was once on my way to work and while passing by the side of the drive saw a black bird. At first I thought it was a crow, because they're really common, but as I actually got up next to it I immediately realized it couldn't have been because it was at least twice the size of any crow I've ever seen. It HAD to have been a raven, it was MASSIVE.

I will never forget seeing a Raven in the zoo at Innsbruck. You know how some people insist on poking sticks thru the wires of animal cages, trying to get their attention? Well, I was astounded to see the tables turned, with the Raven manipulating the tourists by poking sticks out of the cage to get their attention. And it was working! At that time, being from NZ, I had never seen a Raven, and I was so impressed by its very evident intelligence.

Back in November we got a sudden cold snap. That morning somebody found an adult flammulated owl with frozen tail feathers and unable to fly. Somehow I ended up watching over it while we waited for someone to pick it up and get it to the wildlife rehaber. From what we were told it was hypothermic (no surprises there) and should have migrated several months prior. Maybe it was that warm fall we had. Anyway after the rehaber got it on the mend she sent it off to another rehaber further south so he could continue along the migration route. Definitely one of the highlights of my stay at Trapper Creek JC. Come to think of it maybe you know the rehaber I’m talking about. She’s kind of eccentric and has been doing it for decades here in Montana. She even has a book that she wrote but I don’t remember the title. Anyway just thought I’d share!

Tons of poop, very little trust and all the time trying to create an environment so time can repair the damage. Luckily, as far as I can tell, the crow made a successful recovery.

To tell the gender look under the tail at the vent with the bird standing. If the edges turn up it's a male (smile) If the edges turn down, or more of a straight line, it's usually a female. This is so the vents fit together when touching as they mate to form an O & exchange body fluid.

The place I grew up was very remote. It all started when I was 8. I liked climbing trees and often would take my lunch "up top" as dad called it. I didn't like the crust of my sandwhich and I would have an apple core left over. I always seemed to drop a couple chips or occasionally, although I was much more careful, part of a cookie would get away from me. This did not escape the attentions of a young raven in the area. She started hanging out at lunch time. I would set the scraps on branches around me and Dizzi (I named her Iridize but Dizzi stuck) I started seeing what I could get her to do. Like, push things over to get at a piece of food, hop through a pipe. Find a treat amongst a bunch of toilet paper rolls. She liked the little games and puzzles I set up for her. I was a bored kid with time to burn. She wouldn't let me touch her much, but if I was outside, Dizzi was always near by, talking, popping, plinking, and generally imitating any sound she heard, Including my giggle. That was many years ago. I live in a different part of Alaska now but there are a couple ravens that come around and chat but, none of them giggle though. They are still into eating my lunch leftovers.
