New RC Tracked Vehicle has a BIG PROBLEM! - WPL E1

I'm not a WPL Mega fan but from what I understand this tracked vehicle was announced over 2 years ago and they have finally chosen to release it!
This is the WPL E1 a 1/16 scale tracked vehicle which is heavily inspired by the soviet Gaz-71 amphibious vehicle.
Today we get it unboxed and find out what we get followed by a quick test run!

Maybe not the most capable RC Tank out there but certainly a lot of fun to use and drive!
For the price I dont think its too bad for some scale fun but if you are looking for a more capable platform then I would look elsewhere.

So it wasn't worth the wait unfortunately! Fan boys may disagree but I wasn't a fan! The new WLTOYS 1/10 On road is on the way and due any day now! Also another new truck from MJX! 😎👍

Yeah, that's true. It is not for off-road, also in my E1 motor got fried during the first ride

There are some easy mods that will make it run better, but they require complete disassembly of the vehicle. Totally worth it though. If WPL release those metal tracks along with metal wheels then this tank will be top.

Just received mine...you can order the metal tracks assembled or as a kit...kit is cheaper and it's packed in the box with the model...weighs about a pound!

ours (my son/me) features metal tracks, new electronics including a dual channel speed controller that can be switched from "tank" style control to "steering" control, it also features 2 X 3.7v 2300 mah flat lithium batteries. we also strengthened the chassis near the rear as the wheels are mounted in such a bad way that they create to much torque on the single screw that holds the tension wheel in and as a result it shakes rattles and eventually jumps out of its (small) screw-hole. ours will be painted white with the red cross logo's on the side, that way it could be Ukrainian or Russian, depending on what tank we see during IR Tank battles. is this thing worth USD 63,-- to some maybe, but with the metal tracks costing 25-35 usd and a need to upgrade to a real controller with more then 15 meters range.. the vehicle costs more then double the original price, and its still thin plastic that is not amphibious and the 2x 140's just don't have the power to make the vehicle obtain a decent speed and be able to tow trailers or artillery, the 2 year wait was not worth it, and now we have been waiting almost as long on the trailer to transport the E-1, WPL is dropping the ball on the speed of new releases, announcing a vehicle and then telling interested people to wait a few years will not help sales.

my wpl c14 was GREATLY improved by adding weight for realism. there seems to be alot of space to add weight to it!

The gear that turns the tracks immediately cracked for me before even a second recharge. I have the metal tracks coming in. I want to upgrade the motors, ESC and gears

it sucks man!! Even a small stone in the tracks is enough to make them fall off. Not as capable as some other youtubers have made out unfortunately. Nothing against WPL but this was a disappointment.

I wonder if its because its a front sprocket design. I gather its modeled after a real life vehicle but maybe at this scale and weight the physics behind it arent that great. I wonder if its worth testing it driving it reverse for a long time in the same conditions. I bet you the tracks wont fall off as often anyway I still ordered it 🤣

Hmm I really haven't had any issues with the tracks. Only real issue I had was the battery compartment is a bit small, but that's easy to fix. Your video is good, and I can definitely understand your points, but from my perspective I've had a different experience. I'm going to get the metal tracks soon. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your e1.

You really need to check out the screws in the front drive sprockets because they will back out and get lost. I’ve been lucky to lose mine on the floor in my house and not in my yard. If you place a small piece of sewing thread in the screw hole and then tighten the screw, it will stop it from backing out. I haven’t had but one track pop off and that was related to the screw backing out. This thing carried two heavy bottles of liquid flu/cold medicine across 25 yards of grass to test it and performed great. They need to figure out how to make the screws stay tight or supply you with extras.

I upgraded the motors on mine, added heng long sound and smoke, but due to arthritis It's taking forever to put the metal tracks together!

Do you know where I can fond spare parts ? My son drove it in a massive puddle, and now even if it's dry it doesn't work anymore. I think it's the printed circuit board who died, it's heating while connected to the battery, but doesn't make engine or led working.

Sorry for asking, but, beside those metal tracks and sprockets, could it be improved, upgraded, by adding a Sabertooth 2x12 RC dual ESC and some 180 size motors? Of course, this improvement would open the doors for some others, like a decent lipo, and a truly decent receiver. Thank you.

i have tried 2 x 180's and a dual 20A speed controller and different batteries, the 180 make less rpm's then the 140's but have much better torque so it does make the vehicle accelerate faster and be able to climb better.. but then after 10 minutes the gearbox starts screaming as there are no bearings or even bushings in there, you can add some 3x6mm ball bearings on the driveshafts and use a 3mm inside piece of brass to keep the 2 driveshafts aligned (take out driveshaft, slide brass over, oil well, reassemble, helps a bit) don't forget to reenforce the rear wheel mount, its very weak especially if you increase the torque, i would almost suggest making a rigid axle that the wheels can spin on with a nut on each side.

It's too bad this isn't a little better. I have been a fan of WPL since they were a new company. I have most of their line up and a couple of their C124 Toyota off road trucks. Both the flat bed, and the version with the topper. The flat bed models are heavily upgraded and molded. Loke $100 in upgrade parts on a $30 toy. ESC, 270 motors, LED lights, oil-filled shocks, metal springs and drive shafts, body lift, suspension loft, wheel weights, bigger tires with aluminum dual rear wheels. Custom paint and interior with a driver!!! It's NOT a Traxxas or HPI. Nope they are toys. Loads of fun and with a little work and a few mods and they can be respectable.

Big shame as it looks fantastic! Haven't tried a Buzzsaw but looking at its construction it looks like it is probably more reliable than the E1! Those tracks were awful!
