[New Rendition] Ludwig Senfl: Es taget vor dem Walde / Fortuna desperata (c.1530)

This dual language composition combines an Anonymously produced German folk song "Es taget vor dem Walde" (Descant and Tenor I) with an Italian language chanson tune "Fortuna desperata" by the Franco-Burgundian master Antoine Busnois (Alto, Tenor II and Bass). Both songs imply a forbidden, secretive love, but maintain a mysterious air regarding any details about the lovers themselves. This is one of countless parodies on the "Fortuna" melody which had been adopted by several other titans of the Franco-Flemish early Renaissance: Heinrich Isaac, Alexander Agricola and Josquin des Prez.
In this latest rendition, I appended the third verse (from the 1534 edition), added natural dynamics, rebalanced the voices, created a more legato effect, corrected a few orthographic errors*, and enhanced the reverb / echo. I also changed the instrumental doubling (bass viol only in Verse 1; lutes, harp and bass viol in Verse 2; recorder, 3 viols, trombone in Verse 3). The vocal parts were "performed" by the the MAIKA Spanish language Vocaloid.
* According to Timothy McGee, the î is a stand-in for "ai." Thus "Kätterlîn" would be pronounced "kɛ:ttərlaɪn."

Thank you, as always, for providing these! BTW the part of the 4th line from the 1st verse, reading, "Holder Buehl," does not appear in the translation. It would, for certain, translate to, "pretty loved one," in this context. BTW juggling with commas & quotation marks this way in English gave me a weird feeling 😵‍💫- probably wrong...🙄

Thanks for that. Bühl seems to be a Bavarian word from the 16th century that translates to “sweetie” in English - a term of endearment.
