Please don't. I've been there. Heavily pregnant, homeless with my dogs, had my newborn son taken into foster care hours after he was born. I cannot tell you what that felt like😢. I was nothing to everyone, invisible, no one cared. I got a place and got him home, he's 17 now. Don't let them get to your soul, you matter no matter what they say, don't do to help. Those long days are temporary.

I commend this news report for bringing a very troubling phenomenon into the spotlight. Medical assistance in dying or MAID for short has been increasingly more popular in Canada over the last several years, most notably just in the last year. Laws have been changing in Canada to make it easier for patients to receive MAID. I have several ethical disagreements with MAID. I do not think physicians should be in the business of killing patients. Society shouldn’t look at suicide as an answer to it's problems. Lastly, the government should not be recommending suicide to citizens seeking help. Physicians train long and hard to fight disease. They put the value of life at the top of their value system. Physicians can assist dying patients by providing comfort and treating symptoms. Physicians should not be in the business of expediting death. To have someone who has trained for years and years to stop death or prolong life and then to suddenly have them start assisting patients in suicide cuts against their entire value system. It makes death become a reasonable form of treatment. It belittles something sacred, the value of life. If MAID continues soon more and more physicians will be recommending MAID to their most difficult patients. MAID is not a treatment it is giving up. Patients giving up on life. Physicians and society giving up on patients. That is no way for medicine to be practiced. As a society there are certain values we practice. Society takes these values and builds institutions based on them. These institutions range from social security to orphanages to food stamps. All of which aim to productively solve a societal problem as best as possible. They don’t always work but society makes them a priority and does it’s best. These programs make society a better place. Society adoption MAID policies cuts against the work of these supportive social institutions and gives up on the good fight. It takes the stance of not losing by not playing the game. This is unacceptable. Society should not look at it’s sick and weak and say “you should end your life” instead it should look at them and say “we have programs to help support you”. Power in government hands is very corruptible. Making MAID a recommended options by the government makes government that much more powerful and alters their priorities. A society that kills it’s own members is not able to survive. How does the thought of politicians running on “We’ll help convince your sick family members to commit MAID so you can have you inheritance”? That’s not an appetizing pitch to the morally sound but MAID could bring this out of society with government help. Government should only be in the business of death when it comes to war and possible capital punishment, never when it comes to the ill and elderly.

It’s very expensive to live in Canada. Renting a room is $600-$800 month. That’s if anyone will rent to you.
