As-salamu alaikum As a revert ( I reverted 15 years ago), I am seeing this a lot too, and it concerned me. I reverted in my early 20s, and coming from being an Atheist female in the West it was not always easy at first, but I understood that I was mistaken and applied Islam to myself immediately in every way I could, changed my way of life, and battled my myself with knowledge anytime I got upset or questioned why I was doing something. I reverted by myself. I lost friends and over half my family, I felt alone, hurt and confused, but I would stop to remind myself that I had Allah, and that these things happening even my own feelings were tests. The first things I did were read Quran, learn to pray, cover my body, and delete social media. I went to mosques not knowing how to fully pray yet or even understanding arabic. I would just do as they did. They helped me learn how to do my hijab properly, and I got numbers so I could learn from Muslims and not be alone on my new path in life. It's been a journey, and I've not been perfect, but Alhamdullah, I am here today better and happier, Alhamdullah. The issue today is that people take correction as hate, people dont like to hear things they dont like, and some dont like change. We also live in a time of social media where people say things for subs or likes. I'm always happy to hear of someone reverting, and there are so many now it is beautiful, but it is not just words, style, or a fad. It's a way of life. We should always look out for each other and correct each other. To other reverts, it isn't easy, I know, unplugging everything you thought you knew and getting on a new path for life is hard. Turn to Allah, hang tight to faith, and dont take what other Muslims are telling you as hate. It is called tough love. They are looking out for you. If I heard another Muslim tell me something I did was wrong, and I got a little bitter about it or questioned it, I'd go to Quran and confirm it, it helps to take away that false negative feeling immediately because I knew they came from a place of love and are right, I was wrong, and being wrong is okay as long as you correct it. Nobody will hold it over you after that.

It's a difficult concept for them to understand because Christianity and other religions are very wishy-washy in terms of the expectations of their believers. There is definitely a delicate balance between trying to teach them this and being a haram police that will drive them away from Islam. Some people can handle the blunt truth while others need a gentle conversation to steer them in the right direction. I don't want to see us barrage these people with what they're doing wrong.

Yep. Was my experience as well. I didn’t even know anything about the sunnah or hadith. I just read the Quran (translation), it resonated I decided I wanted to follow it, and considered myself Muslim by the 5th chapter. No shahada lol. Didn’t know anything about that. It wasn’t until I started researching where the Quran came from that I realized Islam was actually THE truth. And that there was more to it than just reading the Quran and applying to your life how you see fit. I grew up Christian and that’s literally what Christians do. But alhumdulilah for God الله guiding me and continuing to do so.

I guess many converted for the wrong reasons. You can hear it from the way they speak about Islam and quran and Muhammad. They knew nothing about it. They believe they were lied to by the society and they decided to stand by the so-called oppressed. Some missed some community. Some were persuaded by the manipulating daawa. Once they realize things are different and what is expected of them, many will regret.

Islam means to submit to Allah. To deny or object to one single rule meaning you are out of Islam. A Muslim mustn't draw animate beings, BUT if one draws animate beings while he accepts that its forbidden and one mustn't do it so he is a Muslim who is doing something wrong and it will be in his wrong deeds balance, but if he deny or object to the rule so he is no longer Muslim.

The Qur'an was revealed over 23 years because that's how long it took to raise the best generation of humanity. The reverts have opened their hearts to the message of Islam. I am a revert and actually get upset when I see reverts trying to become “influences” over their new faith and they sharing INCORRECT information, and sharing it as if it’s “right”. It’s fine to share your journey but be open to knowledge and hearing when something you think is wrong. Because there is a RIGHT way. And they are leading other new reverts down the wrong paths. The blind leading the blind. I was once following other reverts and now after several years I realized how they absolutely had no idea what they were talking about but were teaching things as if it was right lol

We are constantly being corrected growing up (our whole lives, actually), be religion, behavior, habit, school, words, actions, etc. It's part of growing up because we don't understand anything. Tough love is a beautiful thing. It helps us stay away from bad things in life and from becoming a bad person. This world is full of ways to lose yourself and temptations that will only hurt you. Rules are rules, but the rules protect you. The sooner people realize that the easier they become to follow and appreciate. Nothing in life is a do whatever you want free for all. Assalamu'alaikum brother, I'm a revert to islam myself. It's been about 10+ years for me in my experience in this deen. On my first days, I was primarily educating myself about facts regarding Allah and to navigate myself through this labyrinth of many braches of islamic views. Within months I cut my primary source of income, and tried to make it with whatever that I had left that is still permissible in Islam. Financially this was a reset back to zero, teaching myself to live with a new set of skills and abandoning something that I've been practicing for around 30 years professionally and also my deepest interest since I was a child. Yes I had people looking down at my financial conditions, I hear them laughing. I really don't feel Islamic set of rules to be intimidating because I see them as checkpoints, and all I have to do is rely on Allah and do my best. But I feel like people have the tendencies to see us as rejectors of islamic rules by not yet doing it, while in fact we are toiling to do so. I found myself hours listening, comparing islamic lectures in my daily routine for years. Contemplating on the dynamics at play in life and our society using the wisdoms I found in islam. I came to this realization that Islam as a religion is deeper than what we are able to conclude and verbalized. Fascinating and intriguing at the same time. As I did so something grows inside me along with my knowledge, and I see myself grow from one checkpoint to the next in islamic disciplines. I'm no longer my old self, and I feel that my thanks and praises to Allah is no longer just planted words to be spoken out in ritualistic manners. I'm still toiling, and yes my wishes to be able to jump directly to the high standards of islamic practices is still with me. Please do reference me to someone that has succeeded in doing this under a short period of time. I do wish I could learn from him. Since things that I haven't been able to do felt so heavy in my chest. I lost most of my desires for glamorous life. The sensation of death is blurring before me, it's like realizing that life is as long strand of existence not limited by death, my worries shifted from worrying about death to worrying about my condition as I stand before Allah on that day with my deeds...to the point where my heart can embrace the idea of early muslims giving away their houses, possessions for the sake of Allah and being happy about it. I'm collecting my experiences to better my treatments for new muslims, I even found them among born muslims. Not as teacher or mentors, but as someone that shares the same struggles since I still have my own homework in this deen, and still feeling that I don't give enough credit for this religion. Just sharing something to contemplate, may Allah defends this religion. Wishing peace and love for all the prophets and all muslims, and may Allah keeps us beloved, close to Him and firm in this deens. لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ

You have to remember tbat we as longterm Muslims have had the time to cultivate the "why"s of trusting in Allah The Most Wise. Strengthening your imaan comes from getting to know Allah عز و جل better. New reverts may be reluctant to give up all their habits out of comfort, not knowing how Allah's love by forbidding or ordaining such a thing is purely for their own benefit. It is hard for them to remember this because theyre new. And it can be hard for them to believe it until they read the stories of how Allah subhanahu w ta'ala honours and protects the prophets peace be upon them all. Once they let their guard down and trust in Allah سبحان وتعالى then you have them eager to enjoin good and forbid evil. Right now, they need to build that trust and strengthen their imaan, you have to convince the soul the benefit of submission. Even us as long term muslims fall into sin. Even we forget that it is better for us to avoid that sin, or do that thing that Allah subhanahu w ta'ala has enjoined upon us. It is our detriment to disobey, and our benefit to obey.

I think we all think it’s great that people are checking out Islam, but I myself have felt very apprehensive about this influx of reverts for this very reason, and I would go a step further and say although we want as many people to come to Allah, we, the umma are in NO need of people coming in to pervert or dismantle what little stability and morality we have left. Islam IS, and there is nothing like it. Bravo brother. I pray your message is received by those who need it. Much love.

I’ve been noticing this too and it makes me worried honestly they are approaching Islam with a modernist mindset, where you are free to do as you please and no one should interfere because...freedom and liberty. That is nottt how Islam works. Also us muslims live in cultures where elders and people of knowledge are always correcting and advising so it’s normal for us. Our cultures are very different from the freedom oriented mindset of the westerners. Islam is community based. Not individualistic. One must follow the prevailing interpretation, the ijmaa of the people of knowledge and not insert their own interpretation which frankly comes from very very limited knowledge. Yes, the constant policing is unnecessary. Reverts need time and space. And as brother mentioned in the video its very important to start with basics of aqeedah to understand a lot of this.

I became Muslim 31 years ago while serving in the US Peace Corps in Yemen. Thank you my Brother for your input and Islamic knowledge. But unfortunately, women reverts (unlike men) are bombarded by our Muslim sisters with all the "do's & don't s" of Islam. It is quite overwhelming and intimidating ( when you first accept Islam). I have even witnessed new sister retract and remove themselves from their communities. So please ya-ummati... lower your wings of love, patience and compassion for all.... always.❤

surah Ahzab aya 36 Abridged Explanation of the Quran It is not correct for a believing man or woman when Allah and His Messenger decide a matter for them that they have a choice in accepting or rejecting it. Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has clearly deviated from the straight path. Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any "option" in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error. it is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger to have any "option" about their decision: if any one disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he is indeed on a clearly wrong Path. 33:36 It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have |any choice| about their affair. They stress on superficial things and forget the main purpose which is be kind and human above all this ❤

Exactly, it became a trend now, revert to Islam, make a video about it and let people cry and get emotional about our reverting, i feel it is not a good idea, yes, let people know about Islam, but not about me being a Muslim in new look or social media way, it shouldn't be showing off, and yes, focus on understanding and learning your religion more than likes and comments other will give, who care if others hate Islam or Muslims, we love Allah and that is the main thing, let people love or hate whatever, Allah will judge, don't waste time about oh what gonna people say or feel about my new Islam reverting, be strong and don't let it get in your faith way.

As a revert also, my sincere advice is to follow what is proven authentic from the Qur'an and Sunnah along with that which is proven to be ijmah from the Salaf (first 3 generations). As Allah commands us 'and if you different amongst yourselves regarding anything, then refer it back to Allah and His Messenger (sulallahu alayhi wasalam), if you truly believe in Allah and the Last day. And that is best for final determination' So Allah doesn't command us to blind follow our Sheikh, without proof of what He or His Messenger (sulallahu alayhi wa salam) have commanded. And he doesn't instruct us to follow our whims and desires. But, rather to follow His Revelation.

As a revert myself, I was fortunate in that at the time of my reversion I didnt have social media and I dont know if it was fortune or not, but I reverted after reading quiet a lot of books on haadith and Qur'an, so I had already gotten to the culture of expecting to be guided and understood that I was to follow the prophet SAW. I remember after about three years of intensive learning, I met a days old revert who was eager to inform me that he is not interested in getting married (well, he was a bit you know...lghdtv+ tendencies) and his reasoning was that Allah swt doesn't have a wife, why should he. I pointed out to him that also Allah swt doesnt eat, never rest and many other attributes. Seeing that he is keen on being like our Rabb, he should do that too or else embrace his role as a follower of guidance. He was stunned. And sheepishly agreed to fall in line.

Asalam Alaykum, it's very important to be patient with reverts. No one should expect a revert to completely change over night. It takes time. Yes, of course there are rules but even the scholars say to be gentle and Mohamed SAW did not hold an iron fist on new believers. You will do nothing but isolate and push people away from Islam. People find their way to Islam by the act of Allah alone. He guides who he wills and people need to have tolerance, patience, and kindness in their hearts. Everyone's faith ebbs and flows, even people who are born into Islam. One reason Allah brings hardship is so we remember him. New believers will find their way gently and over time. We pray for them and offer gentle guidance. As a revert myself, I cringed when I had people pushing me. The most welcome advice I got was through patient modelling and self study. I have been in Khutbahs where Imams scolded the congregation for their harsh or abrupt corrections of new Muslims coming to the Mosque "improperly dressed" or chiding them for not "praying properly" and offered guidance in how to lead by example with patience and understanding.

Asslamu Alaikom Malik, I love your videos. I agree with you that Aqeeda is balck and white. Our Deen is one, and there can be no room for "my way" there. While I don't have enough context to know what she was talking about, I just wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt here. I think what this sister was trying to talk about is the small Fiqh preferences. For example, there are some minute differences in scholarly opinions on how to perform Wudu' (teeny tiny details between the scholars). Again, I don't have enough context to determine what she was talking about, but I just wanted to mention that it's possible that some (well-intentioned) people were splitting hairs with her on small Fiqh matters. Jazak Allah Kheir, brother ❤

I’ve been lucky to have been raised in a Muslim family. I understand what some of these reverts are saying. Some are merely trying to communicate that they’re on their own journey. We all are. Not one of us is a perfect Muslim, and the journey isn’t always a straight line. Some people need more time. Most Muslims forget that it took years for Islam to forbid alcohol. It was a steady and gradual tahreem. You can’t expect people to completely flip their way of life in one day. It’s human nature, and our religion shows us examples of that. One of the things that these reverts are experiencing, that all Muslims experience, is that the Muslim community can be really annoying, overwhelming, and sometimes off putting. Everyone wants to give advice without nuance in approach, or emotional intelligence. Sometimes there’s a bombardment. Don’t forget there are also misinformed Muslims who aren’t aware of their misinformation. So then even the advice is all over the place and not consistent. I would like to add one last thing. I lived in a Muslim country for 7 years and went to a Muslim school. I saw a lot of posturing but no depth. Everyone prayed 5 times a day, wore a hijab, fasted. Few didn’t hurt others feelings, lie, or cheat in exams. Not sure if it’s correlation or causation or sheer coincidence, but a lot of the people who were the posturing / shallow perfection kind were the ones that were trying to give out the most advice. The reverts right now are coming off the back of the huge movement for Palestine. They’re taking to the streets and engaging with the issues. They’re already better than some muslim countries and their people who do nothing. I pray all Muslims are trying their best, that each day they’re better then they were the last day, that we’re all aiming for self improvement and not some image of perfection. Oh and existing Muslims, PLEASE take a minute to look at yourself before aiming at freshly reverted Muslims. They’re like infants at the moment. We’re the ones that need to look at our actions and pray that we don’t let the new Muslims and the future generation down, as we have been doing for decades now.

I can't express enough how much your words are important, Jazak Allahu kulla Khair. Please tell new reverts that doing it "your way" is exactly modern day Christianity, and it's condemned in the Holy Quran (verse : 25-43): Have you seen ˹O Prophet˺ the one who has taken their own desires as their god? Will you then be a keeper over them? This word "Wakeel" translated here "keeper", means that those people will never get the mercy of Allah, for Allah is saying: O Mohammed, have you seen those who have chosen thier desire to be their God, do you think you can protect them (meaning from Allah's punishment)?!! Brothers and sisters, please please please follow the sincere advice of this brother, only few lines and few words to do your prayers properly, not a big deal, just don't go to that area that is EXACTLY against the mere definition of Islam. Salamu Alaykum

Māshā Allah. Beautifully said ⭐ At the end of the day Islam is submission to the will of Allah. When you decide to do things differently to what has been ordained then yes as a human you can say you choose to do or not do that act HOWEVER what you don't get to do is try to justify it. I remember having seen a saying to this effect, "what's right is right even if nobody is doing it & what's wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it..." When we sin let us try to hide it & better ourselves not display it almost as if a challenge & try to justify it.

But I think the problem isn’t so much in them not following all of Islam’s teachings yet, but it is in sharing their opinions & lifestyle publicly, which unfortunately would unknowingly bring them lots of sins due to “mujahara”, so I think we should be encouraging our new reverts to not post everything to social media & to keep their journey between them & Allah Jazaka Allahu khairan brother, it’s always nice to see Muslims still heeding Allah’s words “Cooperate with one another in goodness and righteousness, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression” (5:2)

Islamic knowledge has standards, and our standard is ilm through the silsilaat and isnad. you will see if you go this way, you develop a passion for learning this great legacy of transmission. approach a scholar with proper ijazah and take it from there. you can never go wrong.

Thank you, bro. You made it crystal, clear, expressive, concise, and right to the point. You weren't rude. What you said is the truth. All Muslims, especially reverts should remember these two verses: "(29:2) Do people think that they will be let go merely by saying: “We believe,” and that they will not be tested,1 (29:3) for We indeed tested those who went before them? Allah will most certainly ascertain those who spoke the truth and those who lied."
