@2:08: Bioluminescent display would be a display that has living organisms in it to produce light! These are organic LEDs, so have a carbon-hydrogen or carbon-carbon bond - not a living organic light source. Excellent rig, though. I enjoy using very much too. I hope you're still enjoying yours.

Oh boy, I did conflate those terms. My mistake. Thanks for catching that. And thanks for watching!

I've had mine 5000MP for one year and bought it used in perfect new condition and non smoker and i loved it and the only reason thwat i sold it was to get enough in the kitty to pay for a new 101MP and i can say that you have made a good choise by buying the 5000 but when ever you going to look for a new radio don't forget that you are in a way spoiled by the quality of the 5000 and so go for the 101MP. have a nice time with your 5000. greatings from the Netherlands.

Hello: I have had the FTDX5000MP Limited since May, 2015. I purchased it from Amateur Electronic Supply in Cleveland, Ohio. I received a $300 rebate from Yaesu as an incentive to purchase it. It is a helluva rig. My OLEDs have just started to fade within the past year so I cannot complain. I just have a Comet vertical (HOA issue) but have worked into Japan on 15 cw with it. Don't have an amplifier so the Yaesu does all the "dirty work." I'll live with the fading problem for the future since chasing dx without great antennas is still a lot of fun. Hope you have many years with yours as well. Be well and best 73, Rich - W2FKN

I'm too poor to even watch this video 😂 My only radio is a $25 HT. Cool radio though! Maybe I'll be able to get something nice one day.

Hi Paul. It took A LOT of saving up and trading up to get this rig. A year ago I never would have thought I’d have this radio. And I’m lucky to have found this one used because I’d never be able to afford it when it was new!!

I would like to buy the FT-2000 but the Roofing filter is bad, I don't do any contest anyway. However the most alarming part is the main display which a VFD. Futaba decided to stop the production of this kind of display thus there is no more part of it if the dim fails :(

That would really worry me too. You probably made the right choice.

Interesting to me that you sold the TS-590, and not the FTdx-10. It seemed from your previous video that you like the Kenwood better. I'm telling the XYL that the FTdx-101mp is my retirement rig. But man. If one of these came available, I just might go for one of these instead. The filtering on these (5000, and 101MP) is amazing! Enjoy! DE K7RLN

Ralph, that decision to sell the 590 over the DX10 was a tough one! You’re right, in so many ways I preferred the Kenwood. In the end it came down to the exceptional 300 hz roofing filtering of the DX10. For the weak signal DX and contesting I like to do the filtering on the DX10 just performs so well. I was seriously leaning toward the FTDX101 until the 5000 came up. It just had me hooked!

I have no shack.. the 5000 would be the my shack choice. My FTDX10 has done 80 plus Activations. Nice score!
@propagating-radio Жыл бұрын
I plan to use my DX10 outside the shack now. So I’m glad to hear yours is doing so well in the field! Are you running the full 100 watts? I’m interested in your setup.
@steveverhoef5667 Жыл бұрын
@@propagating-radio I new to ham radio and even newer to HF. This is my first rig. If I forget to tune up I run 5 watts till I realize the situation. Then jump to 100 watts. Recently I have started running 80 watts to conserve power when doing 6 activations in a day.
@steveverhoef5667 Жыл бұрын
I think I would benefit from a second antenna. I use a 12m vertical for distance but suspect the antenna is working against me on the listening side of things
@propagating-radio Жыл бұрын
@@steveverhoef5667 well we’re glad to have you! HF is so much fun. Glad to hear you’re getting out and activating.

Where the radio falls flat is at -15C. I need to preheat the radio. I’m sure it not designed for -15C. My rule of thumb is if your fingers are cold the radio will be struggling. There is a chance it’s the bioenno battery management unit and not the radio. Either the battery or the radio turns off randomly till it warms up. You can restart right away.

Many Yaesu displays are lousy. The FT-857D displays are perhaps the worst ever on any rig and they charge an arm and a leg for a replacement.
@propagating-radio Жыл бұрын
I think I’ve heard about those 857 displays. Didn’t they suffer from “zebra striping” issues?
@robertvarner9519 Жыл бұрын
Yeah....my FT-897D display went bad. Very disappointed. I will not buy another Yaesu product.
@lybe3217 Жыл бұрын
I had an FT-857D and never had an issue with the display. The only minor issue I had is the rotary encoder of Select button that was skipping steps because of usage... It's easy to find and change though. But I sold it (few years ago) to buy an IC-7410 which was my best rig.
