Very much enjoyed your video. We got to visit the New River Gorge Bridge back in March of this year and we loved it there. We didn't go to all the spots you did but after seeing your video we may have to make a return visit to check these other locations out. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day.

thank you for a well documented informative video.. would you know how the conditions are around Christmas?

You are welcome! I have not been there during the winter, but I imagine the leaves would be down by then and there may be even ice. I remember that they said something about closing some of the roads during the winter also. It attracts more people during the summer because of the hiking and white water.

Very well done video. We are considering visiting there over fall break. Any recommendations on camp grounds? Would be neat to ride a train through there.

Hey thanks! I think fall would be fantastic for the color. We like to camp too, but I didn't really check out the campgrounds. The park is known for it's white water rafting (that's what we wanted to do if I had not sprained my ankle), and it might be chilly during that time, but the hikes would be incredible. If you go to the Thurmond Visitor Center, there is a schedule for Amtrack and it actually still stops there in that little ghost town. I would love to ride that! I would check out the parks service for the best camp grounds. Not sure if you are RV, Travel Trailer, or tent, but you can check here: www.nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/camping.htm Enjoy your visit!

How long do recommend to stay here? I'm going on a month long road trip this summer and I'm contemplating whether or not I should spend 1 day or 2 days.
@TravelNationalParks2 жыл бұрын
Short answer 2 days. Long answer, this depends on mainly one thing. Would you like to go white water rafting? New River is primarily known for it's activity more than it's "grandeur" . Not to underate it, because it is beautiful, but mainly because of the river and scenic hiking. It is known as a top spot for white water rafting, and we wish we had taken the time to do it. We spent about 1.5 days and did the top part one day and the bottom part the next day, and we also went and visited and took a tour of the Pocahontas Exhibition Coal Mine & Museum, and that was really fascinating just to learn and appreciate what this part of the country is all about. We like visiting the "hidden" gems of national parks, and that's why we liked the abandon "village" of Nuttallburg where Henry Ford set up shop, and the abandoned once booming town of Thurmond. Kids may not enjoy as much history as adults do, but in all, you could easily fill up 2 days worth of time. You can easily gaze at the bridge in one day, but we like to see as much as we can in case we never get back there. Summer is definitely the best time. Hope you have as much fun as we did! Enjoy your trip Luke!
