Hi mate, it was me that spotted you in the car park today and I did think it would be a struggle out there! Fair play for giving it a go but you were right not to venture in past your knees, looked treacherous. There’s a bit upstream I fished last season and it’s completely unrecognisable now after the recent floods so it’ll be a couple of weeks before I venture out again I suspect. The snow and work prevented an opening day cast for me today. Nice video, I have a Maxcatch 3 wt rod for burns and stuff and it’s fine. I’m looking at their glass rods too, might have a look at one after getting some birthday Amazon vouchers, they’re about £70. Might be a good robust bet for my lad to use, if he comes with me fly fishing. All the best for the season 👍

Aye, I might buy a few of thier light single handed rods to see if theyre up to the job of fishing in bramble lined burns. Theyre cheap enough that I won't mind too much if one breaks.

Nice video and review. This rod has my attention for while now. Because it has not a €1200 price tag I watched this one used in Canada as well on KZbin. That guy really can cast with this gear. Scotland is of of course trout%Salmon country. Here in NL I we have only deep wide rivers. No Salmon. But I use it with a sink tip for Zander and big Pike.

I think I watched the same video before I bought it. its a very good rod for the money, and I would recommend it. its not as light or as accurate as something that costs 3-5x as much, but its an absolute bargain.

Looks like the rod was a good buy, you were casting well. Opening day for the trout today, but can't see me going out. Shame as I do try to honour the 15th each year, however it's bloody Baltic, hard frost with snow forecast and high water. Not very encouraging! Might still do though, no fool like an old fool! 😀

Bought one of these Trout Spey rods last year a Redington great fun in the 4 weight matched it with 250 scandi head probably be a good shout for this river with the lack of back casting, hopefully that tree has gone now tried to fish that pool 2 weeks ago but that tree was doing my head in hopefully its gone with the water flow now.

I went in and moved a couple of trees from thier snags in the lower pools a few days back, and didnt see any of them yesterday, so I think the rain has done its job.

Yer a better man than me Gunga Din.I won't be down for a cast until the daffies are in full bloom and the river is running clear.Nevertheless a very informative video and your set up looks good to me. I might give something like your rod a go.Am I right in thinking a 7 weight line would be OK on that particular rod? Keep the videos coming. They're great when you can't get out to fish yourself and you realise you would have been wasting your time anyway. 😂

I'm not sure that I would cast a line that heavy with a 4wt. I know there's a thing about a switch rods casting weight being 3 lines down from a single handed, or something like that, but I don't know the mechanics of it. The river fishes quite well in March and April, if it doesn't rain too much, so I just dig the long johns out and have a cast before it gets too busy.

@@thetattooedangler I have a 120$ guideline fly line. 200$ guideline reel… but still use my 100$ maxcatch premier rod cuz its the best for dynamic roll cast lol.

i used a 250gr shooting head but ive changed to a 200gr integrated line since. it casts much better now.

Its a 200gr. I thought it was maybe a bit light and didnt turn the heavier flies over well, but its ok for single butchers and the like. a 250gr would be better for wee doubles.

I know. I wasnt really trying to catch anything, but the tourists will sometimes run on the lower beat when its like this. i was really just out to be out, and to test the new rod.
