I am 68 years old and live in the U.S. I've always liked the upright seating position of the old Brit bikes so I like the Classic 350 better than the Meteor, although the Meteor is a fine looking bike, too. It's just that I'm old and the Classic 350 brings back memories for me. I'd love to own one and maybe customize one some day. But I'd like to keep one just the way it came from the factory. I hope the price is about the same as the Meteor.

@@buzzlightyear1484 Rusty and corroding spokes down the road isn't a good advert for RE IMO. Would you notice £20 extra on the cost of a £5,000 motorcycle? Or would be be cursing rusty spokes after washing the bike or it being exposed to the elements a few times? I know which I'd prefer,it's a niggle that's simple to overcome at manufacture for a minute extra cost,not so afterwards,it's a false economy on RE's part IMO.

@markymarknj2 жыл бұрын
One, I think RE should leave the Classic 350's looks ALONE! It looks fine just the way it is, paying homage to the post war G2. Plus, the Classic is an icon for the company, much like the boxer twin is for BMW Motorrad. Does anyone remember the BROUHAHA when BMW decided to bring out the K series engine, aka the Flying Brick? The BMW faithful were enraged! A popular saying of the time was: "Real BMWs are twins". And BMW was not, nor has not, done away with their boxer engine! All they did was bring out a new engine, and the faithful were full of indignation. Whenever a company messes with an icon, they take a huge risk. Leave your icons ALONE, TYVM! I believe RE have played it right; they have a platform from which they can build multiple bikes. If RE wants to change the look, they can by putting different pieces on the same J series platform. They have the Meteor, which is a gem of a machine. I know, because I own one. They have the Classic coming out, and they got the look right. The new Classic 350 is GORGEOUS! Plus, also using the J platform is the upcoming Hunter 350, which will look more like a mid-late 70s standard. By using a common platform, RE has the best of both worlds: they can keep the Classic classic, while changing the looks with different models built on the same platform. They say you can't have your cake and eat it too, but RE have found a way to do just that... :) Two, even though the new Classic 350 carries half a gallon less in its fuel tank, it'll still have good range. I'm getting about 70 miles per US gallon with my Meteor 350, which works out to 84 miles per Imperial gallon. Even using the US gallon, you can easily go 240 miles if you drain the tank dry. Even if you leave 1/2 a gallon in the Classic 350 when you fill up, you're still looking at 200+ miles range. I don't know about you, but my bladder won't LAST that long! I'll be ready for a stop long before the tank is empty; when I make a pit stop, I'd just refuel at the same time. Three, as for the speed limiter, my feelings are mixed. Given my age (60 this month) and typical riding style these days, as a practical matter, the speed limiter doesn't matter to me, as I don't have the nerve to do much faster on two wheels these days. 70 mph on two wheels is plenty fast for me. Also, I spend the vast majority of my time on roads that have 55 mph or lower speed limits; since they're two lane roads, one doesn't want to go much faster than 50-55 anyway. So, does the speed limiter really affect me? No. Now, having said that, what I can't figure out is this: WTF did RE go to the TROUBLE of limiting the Meteor's and the Classic's speed? Between having a 20 hp engine, the laws of physics, and the laws of aerodynamics, the bike wouldn't do much over 75 anyway! How do I know? I used to have a Honda Helix scooter that had a smaller, understressed liquid cooled engine making 20-22 hp. Though the Helix is lighter than the Meteor 350, it has a big windscreen generating lots of drag. Flat out, WFO, the Helix wouldn't do much over 73-74 with me on it. Since the Meteor/Classic 350 engine makes 20 hp, the bike wouldn't see much over 75 in any case. RE could've saved themselves some money, left out the speed limiter, and let the Laws of Nature do the job for them. WHY did they go to the trouble to fit a speed limiter? Finally, based on my experience with the Meteor 350, I would buy the Classic 350 in A HEARTBEAT! I'm just waiting for it to become available here in the US. I wanted the old Classic 500 when it was still available, but I never got one. I won't make the same mistake twice! Soon as my local dealer has a Chrome Red, I'll be making a deposit. Those are my thoughts...

I've been turning over the purchase in my head for many weeks, wondering if there isn't something I would find more interesting or exciting to have for my slow-speed meandering on the back roads where I live. I already have a Himalayan for the dirt and gravel road adventures here, and two modern Vespa scooters for jaunts around the countryside, but I'm coveting the Classic to fulfill my moto cruising dreams. I really enjoyed watching, and the 70mph limit isn't really a concern for me either. I may jump on an Interstate highway from time to time but only for an exit or two. No plans or interest in traveling that way.

What Royal Enfield need to do, is make a Honda 350 RS lookalike, not sure why Honda don't want to sell this bike in Europe, as it's certainly the best looking bike in this class. For me an extra 10 mph on the top speed of the Royal Enfield would also help make the bike more ideal for the UK as it would help with overtakes on dual carriageways and motorways. if Honda start selling the RS 350 or Royal Enfield make one similar with a slightly better top speed then I'll be here to buy it.

F royal enfield. There is a reason why this brand is insignificant in North America and there is a reason why this brand is priced significantly lower than most other known brands. These machines look so pretty when they are brand new, however within 18 months of regular riding conditions and regular scheduled maintenance these bikes start to show signs of wearing out, looking dull and tarnished. From the start these bikes are underperforming. The service dealerships that sell these bikes have no understanding of how service these bikes. And when I tried to talk with royal enfield corporate north America located in Milwaukee its like there is only one woman working there named "Brenda " and every return message is "I will have someone from my team contact you." Then a week or 2 later I receive a email from a very vague sender with a generic response. It's seems as if they are being rather evasive about answering any of my questions. So yeah! F Royal Enfield. I consider myself lucky that I haven't spent any more money on this brand. My message is a honest warning to others to do some research before purchasing a royal enfield because I don't want other motorcycle enthusiasts to feel the way that I do about their purchase.
