Agree a 750 Interceptor makes no sense, and despite the spy shots, I will still be very surprised if they make an 850.

Still think the RE Interceptor 650 is 1 of the coolest looking, perfectly powered, modern classic motorcycles to have ever been made. TBH, if there were a larger capacity version it would not interest me personally. The BSA has the exact same appeal to me for that “Goldilocks” zone modern classic bike. If, like me, you ride to simply enjoy the ride and not to go as fast as you can then these 2 Motorcycles are perfect examples of what enjoyable riding is all about.

650 has always been a classic bike displacement, and bored out versions were often inferior. However, bikes like the Shotgun and Classic 650 are carrying a lot more weight than British 650s of yore, and have more in common with cruisers with much bigger engines than old 1960s twins.

RE has been a massive success in a challenging market. Peak HP is 99% irrelevant. Driveable and durable for the win. Parts availability creates a feeling of reciprocated loyalty. China has no idea why someone wouldn't buy the cheapest available.

People have been developing, testing the 750 and 860 for RE for years. It is likely that RE have been watching FB for any issues with modified 650's. Clutch for example.

What actually seems to be the case is that it isn’t 750 from a larger bore but rather a larger stroke. Many people have pointed out an extra cooling fin along the cylinder body. The numbers seem to be closer to 55 hp and 60-65 NM. Another small tidbit, it seems to have adjustable front forks with clickers at the top. AND in terms of positioning, this maybe more pointed towards the US market rather than the Europe market where the Interceptor 750 does have history, and where the A2 license issue doesn’t exist. I believe fully that the Interceptor would be still sold either as a 650 or a slightly limited 750.
@johnnyrvf3 сағат бұрын
BSA tried that with their unit 650 engine in the early seventies. It didn't get anywhere for several reasons. Apparently it vibrated even worse than the 650 and being the ex owner of a 1965 Lightning Rocket, that would have made it unrideable! Lengthening the stroke is a bad fix for bad engineering. If you want a bigger engine, design one, no one wants a good bike ruined by bodged marketing ideas.

It’s not Triumph that Enfield will be worried about. It’s the direct competition from China in a market that Enfield had got sewn up 3-4 years ago. If you’re at the budget end of the market, things have got awfully congested in the last 2 years.

I hope not! I do not like brands which simply keep making existing engines bigger and bigger in order to charge the customer more. Look at Triumph, where their twin has now reached 1200cc. Many a fine bike has been ruined by increasing the capacity. I am worried that RE will go the same way as KTM because they are throwing out new models at an alarming rate and may overstretch themselves.

Given what’s happening in the Motorcycles’s industry where sales are rapid declining, it’s nice to see a manufacturer showings its faith by bringing out many new models. I own a Scrambler 900 and love the modern classics. The Royal Enfield stand at Motorcycles’s live was my favorite. I love the new classic 650 and the funky modern retro Bear 650. Not enough for me to immediately dive in but they are on my radar when I’ve finished paying for my current bike.

Hi Stuart , thank you for your interesting video . About the fact that RE tried to compete with the Triumph speed twin when they issued the Interceptor, did you notice that the new 2025 Speed Twin choice of colour is very close to the RE Interceptor's . Coming back to a new Interceptor , a smaller torque would be for me a big mistake, on the contrary a double disk brake would be a great improvement .

A 750/850 from RE would suit me as my last bike untill i'm forced to hand my licence back. Maybe a few slight styling changes and reintroduce the "Constellation" name as their flagship model.

Good morning Stu. Thanks for the heads up. All very thought provoking. There probably is a market for an 850 twin. I know people that have done the big bore conversion. I think it would be a shame if Royal Enfield get caught up in the biggest is best race though.

I wonder, until when will RE keep reboring the 650 twins to launch newer motorcycles? That makes no sense, at least for me! These amateurish changes and gimmicks will only lead to one thing: no one will want to buy these motorcycles anymore! RE has to realise that styling and performance are two different things.
@andrewhayes42463 сағат бұрын
850 makes sense and puts it in front of the bsa. Twin discs and better frame and suspension will see it at the top of the sales again. A big bear (Grizzly?) version would be great!
@bitey67096 сағат бұрын
I can't see them bothering to release a new bigger bike for a few years. Breaking sales records last year and still to get the full effects of the Bear , Shotgun , Classic and the newest 350 custom in the forthcoming year. Their success is assured for a while yet. So why bother.

My Interceptor is fantastic on back roads BUT out on the highway cruising at 120klm it gets hot and bothered. An 850 with taller gearing would solve that but might cause other issues like needing more brakes, stiffer suspension, and a bigger fuel tank. RE need a larger capacity bike for USA and Australia but leave the Interceptor alone ❤❤❤

But I haven’t ridden one ! I love my interceptor it is a very easy bike to ride and ideal for green lanes ! Don’t think I’ll be changing it 🙂keep up the good work 👍

Would love a Super Meteor with more power, for a more relaxed / lower revs highway experience. In many, many places (in the US) 75-85mph is very typical and while the Super Meteor will do it, sitting around 6000 rpm is not pleasant and feels like I’m “hurting” the bike (and there’s more noise, and not much left for overtakes, etc). Would get a more powerful engine (straight from the factory, with warranty) without a second though. Take my money RE!
@OpnmdjxkxmmffСағат бұрын
What advantages does it have. The Inteceptor is a nice machine, well balanced. More power would spoil it.
@andybryant17724 сағат бұрын
I hope you are correct. I'm waiting anxiously now. I do think a more powerful royal enfield would make used interceptor prices go down. I wouldn't mind a used interceptor. They seem to hold their value here in Australia.

That 650 engine reminds me of the BSA A50/A65 lump. I never liked the look of that engine as it was not as purposeful looking as the A7/A10. In contrast, Triumph kept the distinctive timing cover and rocker cover when they went to unit construction. I would prefer something that looked like the original British made Enfield twins.

So it is an 850 already? Few weeks more and we will be talking about 1200 😋 Would it be great if RE introduced it? Of course. It would become a real competition for the 900 Bonneville family. But in all seriousness - I would like to see some improvements to the 650 Interceptor (suspension, seat, etc.). I surely hope that the upcoming bike 750 or 850 or whatever is not going to replace the 650. Apropos BSA. I would love to know what their strategy in Europe is. Cool bike, but with just 8 dealerships in the whole of Germany makes it impossible for many to even consider it - including myself.
@ChanakyanStudent79715 сағат бұрын
1200cc RE would surely put many bikes out of commission. If RE continues to grow at this pace it is sure to happen one day or another. As per BSA yeah I really prefer the Gold star over Interceptor but there's literally 1 dealership of BSA in my entire state, which makes it a stupid purchase.
@matusknives5 сағат бұрын
@@ChanakyanStudent7971 Yeah, I am wondering whether it even makes sense for BSA to keep their presence so low. It sends a very mixed message. I will still try to find out if at least they have more contracted services that are authorized to work on their bikes under warranty.

A million units is a great result for RE. Maybe they don't need to consider the UK market though with its licence restrictions etc as they can focus on other markets where practicality, price etc are more important than classic styling, especially as the UK market dwindles. Glad you are well after your winter flu.....

My humble crystal ball instinctively could perceive they would come out with a larger displacement engine on one of their new bikes. I would imagine around 900cc to give its loyal fans the magic carpet ride and the competition a ride for their money. Whatever it is I know Royal Enfield will have another winner, and the banner will wave in the wind. Goodbye for now my friend.

Morning Stewart. As you know Hitchcock are doing a wide range of performance parts for Royal Enfield. This new bike that's in your vid made me wonder if Royal Enfield has improved the gearbox ratio, fitted a performance camshaft along with other performance electronics? Possibly giving the new model 70 to 80 bhp? Just a thought? Safe riding till next time sir 👍😊...

A lot of the current engines, the RE 650 included, could make more power than they do, probably around 60hp. I suspect that figure would satisfy most peoples requirements. 47hp in a bike that's over 200kg just doesn't do it for a lot of people.
