Residency permits should ALWAYS be granted on the basis that the holder stays free of criminal or significant anti-social behaviour. Breaching that provision should lead to cancellation of the permit and deportation of the offender - regardless of familial connections.

I am a dual US/UK citizenship. I would never move back to Scotland. UK economy is in a recession. The last time I was in UK, I felt as though it had just changed so much. In my opinion, UK was so full of men & many were not respectful & some downright rude & aggressive. I live in a very rural area in The US, now. I love it. My neighbors are like family. I never lock my house or vehicles at night. The last recorded homicide in my county was in 2004, & domestic murder/suicide. We have a small farm & only eat fresh food & meat. I will never leave my little paradise.

That’s great if that lifestyle suits you. I’m a city person and could never live in a remote country town. Yes big cities have many problems and of course some are worse than others, NYC for instance is not for me . I live in a great area of London, low crime (but unfortunately higher than it used to be) green spaces, great for walking, vibrant but not overcrowded and I can go to a world class show/event etc. in central London in 20 minutes using the underground. This suits me fine 😊

We as British people can not really complain when our children are refusing to get educated and work in jobs that are in high demand for staff. We love the NHS but dont want to be health care workers/professionals. How do you expect it to work. We love British produce but dont want to farm. We love to drink but dont want to work in a brewery. For the system to work, we need certain positions to be filled, and it's not coming from the good old British citizenry. So what would those criticising the influx of foreign workers on our shores suggest?

British people who don’t go to the top of the queue for social housing and special grants, help and charitable assistance can’t afford to live on the low wages many jobs offer. Desperate people from the worst parts of the world who are then given a great deal of assistance not available to British people are obviously more willing and able to live a subsistence level on those low wages. Many illegals have families abroad and live here six men to a room. British people with families who must pay proper registered overheads are in a different position.

During the course of my working life, I have applied for several NHS hospital jobs, yet not invited to one interview. I have applied to two care homes, but told I first needed to go back to college and get care qualifications before they could employ me, again no interview offered either. The second of which was a real surprise as my friend, a newish Bangladeshi immigrant had not only been given a job with no care qualifactions at all, but he was also promoted to the nightshift manager. Even he was surprised when I told him I had been rejected as and I quote "You don't need qualifactions. None of us freshies have them!". When between jobs and looking to make ends meet I've applied to supermarkets, fast food chains and cleaning agencies and again been turned away without so much as an interview. When I was younger I would apply for summer produce picking jobs, and again was never given a job. So please don't sit there and tell me we need foreign workers because British workers don't want to work such jobs. British workers aren't being given these jobs when they do apply.

I found a sample citizenship test online sometime ago, took it out of curiosity and failed. I have a bachelors and a higher degree and have a professional career trajectory, and I don't think I am exactly uninformed about British history, culture and traditions. Probably I would have passed if I had given the answers that a conservative political narrative would dictate but there must be countless thousands of people who have come to this country to live and work, speak and write good English yet may be tripped up by this obstacle imposed by the Home Office to deny people citizenship.

Like the gulf countries come, work, earn the pounds which are highly valued, go back to one's own country, settle down. That should be the right thing. Aspiring citizens take illegal short cuts like asylum seeking, spouse visas, just reaching in boats randomly, go as a student take maximum people along, or go as a pregnant student, have a child, get a UK citizan baby, then work around are the various ways of getting citizenship

I really think the UK government has destroyed dreams of many foreign countries workers who were working in the UK, during the period between 2007-2010, irrespective of them having Indefinite Leave to remain certificates in the UK, as they were not English. Therefore all of them were expecting to get jobs within the UK if they needed to change jobs as they had been told that when they were given those ILR certificates, but unfortunately, it didn't happen that way, because when they apply for a job in another companies, the management of that companies told them that unfortunately the government told them to give jobs to the English people, therefore they can not give them the job, they had promised to give them before, while they had been actually taken rounds, and being shown by the manager where and what they will be expected to do and being told that they will give them a call or a message to let them know the date to commencing their work. As a result of that, many overseas people realised that if they are going to be told that whenever or wherever they apply for a job, they best thing for them to do is to go back home, which they actually did and of cause with broken hearts, because they couldn't see any future for themselves in the UK. Some of those people have already worked in the UK for more than ten years, which was a shame, really. As a result right now, there is a lot of shortage of nurses in the hospital, as it is now not easier for the UK to get overseas nurses, as they don't trust whatever the UK government is saying. They had to stay and work in their countries to help to develop their countries. Not even a single person would like to be treated that way. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. That is the only way to go.

It becomes more and more difficult to live in the UK 🇬🇧 according to those who's been here for almost 34 years and still needs to take a test? Unbelievable!!!

When war in Ukraine started, I really wanted to gain citizenship- just in case. But recently because of personal issues and less contracts, I spent some time in Poland. I managed to compare those 2 countries, their economies, services, developments, etc. And I came to the conclusion that it's not worth. I prefer to put some money on site (in case something happens). The idea that we require foreigners to actually know something about this country, its histor,y its people, and culture ,is something governments should have imposed decades ago. Labour under Blair openned the floodgates to Eastern European migration that eventually led to millions moving here in the 1990s and 2000s. Creating the modern housing crisis in the South East of England. Even though hundreds of thousands of new homes were built during this time, it was never enough to outstrip demand, but of course that's what the property owning elites wanted. Cheap labour in their busiesses. and high rents for their property portfolios. Nowadays, however we have more and more migrants, both legal and more worringly illegal , who not only display staggering levels of ignorance of this country and its people and culture, but are actively hostile towards them, and refuse to learn English, demandig translators, and taking various bodies to court for ludicrous "discrimination" cases, costing the country a fortune. We are a small country, one of the smallest in the world, and our local authorities are under massive strain financially, many on the verge of bankrupcy trying to financially service this enormous and growing problem. It can't go on like this.

Let me make it absolutely clear: I'm _not_ referring to the refugees from Ukraine. They are decent, peaceful, hardworking people, make no trouble whatsoever, and they are more than welcome here. I've met a large number who are already working in the hospitality and other sectors. Lovely people. And would you believe it? They all say they are actually _grateful_ to us in the EU for taking them in! Never heard _that_ before from non-European migrants, who apparently think the world owes them a living.

Britain is a small country and already overpopulated. A sensible calculation needs to be made determining the number of people that can be sustainably accommodated and immigrant numbers adjusted accordingly. I suspect that population numbers are already beyond the maximum. Therefore future migrants should only be admitted when an opening appears (either by death or emigration of a current resident).

The UK government should atleast provide exemptions to the salary threshold for Tier 2 work visa to the young people aged below 30 or 35 years, especially those who have completed there master's degree in UK. Otherwise, UK will lose all the young talents. It is also time to have rethink about the dramatic increase of almost 50% in salary threshold for work visa. Or it should consider increasing threshold gradually over the coming 2 to 4 years in such a way that it would be convenient for both young graduates and also the employers. Again it's worthy to remember that the contribution of these skilled workers to the UK economy and also it is not the skilled workers the sole reason for increase in net migration. Thanks

Bad, bad, bad!!! Btw, my South African friend, married to a Brit, and settled here with a job teaching biology in a secondary school, still had to take an English language test, which was right and proper.

Our country is overpopulated there isn't enough properties for everyone that has arrived in the UK. We the people would like mass deportations. Permanent residency was only given to people that arrived prior to BREXIT. from the EU. After that it is the same as other countries. You can't just move to the UK and expect to get citzenship. There isn't enough jobs for everyone either. The cost of applying for citzenship should be much higher than £1,500. More like £5,000 would be far more appropriate. Some immigrants are going home because they now know the streets are not paved with gold and there are a lot of staff lay-offs that have already begun in 2024. The UK is trillions in debt and young people can't afford to buy a property. Some 40 year olds are stilling living at home with mum and dad due to the economics of the situation. The UK isn't has prosperous has many people think it is. Its way down on the pay scale and people can have better futures elsewhere.

user-pd6bd7ir4z Seems that the Hong Kong BNO visa program has attracted the less educated and less well off because other countries such as Canada and Australia need immigrants who can contribute to the country. They must be high skilled and well educated whereas the HK BNO visa scheme has no requirements provided they hold a Hong Kong BNO passport and do not need to have a job waiting for them. Many are coming over to enroll their children for state schools and later will qualify for local university home fees. After 5 yrs they can apply for British Citizenship and can qualify for child benefits. The other group is the old and retired who bring no benefits to this country and can apply for social welfare. The UK government has offered the BNO passport holders a very bespoke and very unfair 5 yr BNO visa program.

Ensuring a fair balance in access to public funds is crucial for the stability of any nation. Implementing a policy where non-British citizens refrain from claiming public benefits during their initial five years in the UK could potentially contribute positively to the country's economy. Such a measure, if carefully crafted, might strike a balance between supporting those who choose to make the UK their home and safeguarding the nation's financial resources. It's essential to consider the legal implications and consult experts in drafting such policies to ensure fairness and compliance with existing laws.

Having homogeneous nation with no diversity of any sort is much more important to them than having decent functioning infrastructure such as food security, education, public transport or healthcare where non A-S residents have supported the system for decades. @@allanrudolph9181 I'm South African dear. The kind that could never go into "white" only areas. And couldn't stay in white only areas. Nor attend white only schools. My Father had to get " dompass" to come from Durban to Pretoria. Did you experience that ? Or maybe bring awareness to the World of how a minority of 7 million whites STILL OWN 70% of the land in South Africa in a population of 52 million . It will take decades before the land gets distributed justly. Thats Apartheid Sir. Something I can assure you you have NEVER experienced.

@@claudejeremiahgreengrass exactly what you doing ,ranting to strangers. As for " powerless" ,you mistaken . No longer will Africa be run by the white colonialist. Those days are over. 70 % of the population had no electricity, nor a right to education in those Apartheid days yourll reminiscent about. And yourll still see nothing wrong with that.

Question: why is it in Japan, they are nearly 100% homogeneous Japanese? Every worker, no matter what (toilet cleaner, coffee barista, doctor, dentist)…all Japanese. How and why is everyone in that country willing to work in every kind of job?

Well they can keep their citizenship ,all they have to do is to pay reparations to all those colinized countries so that those migrants can go back and enjoy their dividends that kept the British Empire alive and the economy growing .Africa needs to stop supplying resources to the British economy and see how the country will survive without the imput of Black countries.
