I've owned the original mini-series of Salem's Lost with David Soul and James Mason and watch it every October season, What could be better?

Same! Love the tone and atmosphere of that adaptation. There are some genuinely eerie and frightening sequences that never get old.

Great video! I'd long hoped to see a new depiction of "The Lot." Has it been established which time period this story takes place in?

Great news, Smart move to place on HBO Max, the casting isn't strong at all!!. But looking forward to viewing this ambition take. The Salem's Lot that should be re-released in the theaters should be the Original one with David Soul.

Why does the narrator of this keep saying HBO Max? Isnt it simply known as Max now? And id love to know warners reasons for just streaming this highly anticipated movie? Why not put it out theatrically, as originally intended? 🤔
@TheAtlanteanArchive7 ай бұрын
I keep thinking that the studio doesn't believe that this is a very good movie, otherwise I don't see them turning down the big dollars that a long-awaited Stephen King adaptation could potentially draw. Maybe they're just outsmarting themselves, though, thinking that they'll increase subscriptions to Max. I could see a lot of people signing up for a trial subscription, just to see this movie, and then canceling afterward. As for the references to HBO Max, that's because this is the way it's referenced in the source articles.

So now, the movie gets released to a streaming service that I don't and WON'T even subscribe to just for the purpose of seeing this remake. Not every adaptation of King's is that great, but the 1979 version of Salem's Lot was magnificently eerie as hell! I doubt that the new one will be able to match it, especially with three strikes against it already! Way to go, Warner!
@TheAtlanteanArchive7 ай бұрын
This is why I continue to think that the executives believe it's not a good movie, despite King's praise for it. I just don't see them turning down the big dollars that a long-awaited Stephen King adaptation could bring them from a theatrical release otherwise. But then I see some of the garbage that does get released, that there's no way the studio could have thought was actually good, but they went ahead and released it anyway...and I don't know. Like you, I don't need or want another streaming service either. I see a lot of people signing up for a trial subscription just to see this movie and then canceling.

@@TheAtlanteanArchive King's opinion on what is and isn't a good movie is not a reliable indicator. My assumption is that it's got a lot of unpopular social commentary and even they know it will not do well. King and his social circles will praise it for catering to "modern audiences."
@TheAtlanteanArchive7 ай бұрын
@markh995 I REALLY hope they left the social commentary and virtue signaling out of it. God knows that stuff has ruined enough already. From the cast listing on IMDB, they've given one character a sex change, but I don't know of anything else so far.
