Such a beautiful sound. I have been wanting one of these Hokema Sansulas. I love the pentatonic scales on them and the sound from the drum is gorgeous. Do you have any reverb in your mic while making this video? Or is this all natural? Where can I find your instructional book? Never mind! I googled it and found it. I need to get the sansula first I think, although would this book be fine for any pentatonic kalimba? I have a couple I am waiting on to arrive, and if your book would work with them I would like to try. I m pretty sure one is an11, the other is just a small pocket thumb piano, with I think 7 keys.

Hi Sharon, thanks so much for your comments! There is some Sound-design added to the sound of the Sansula in this Video, but just very little- some Equalizing, some compressor and some long reverb. This is standard if you record in the very dry acoustic atmosphere of a recording studio. If you play the Sansula in a normal room it will almost sound like in this video. Most of the sustain is produced inside the instrument, by the interaction of the tines and the drum-resonator. The tuning used in this video is a heptatonic scale, g lydian. All Sansula-tunings are based on heptatonic scales, although the original Am-tuning of the smaller HOKEMA Sansula with 9 tines appears to sound like a pentatonic scale. In this video I presented the bigger Sansula model called "Sansula Melody" which is originally tuned in G. My book is available at the HOKEMA webshop, www.hokema.de. All Kalimbas and Sansulas with 11 tines from HOKEMA work with this book.

the melody is so beautiful! incredible playing. I also have a sansula but cannot find the G lydian tunning. Can you tell me the notes of the tunning so that i can retune her in this tunning? Thanks so much!!
