The 24mm in our "standard zoom collective memory" is a fairly recent inclusion. I remember shooting film with a 35-105/3.5 Canon lens and i was pretty happy. For wide shots i used a 20-35/3.5 and later the 16-35/2.8 lenses. Later i tried the first generation 28-105/2.8 AF film lens from Tamron (pre 2000) and although i LOVED the focal range the lens was horribly soft. Then i got into the usual 24-70/2.8 lenses but always felt that while they were "wide", they were also disappointingly short at the tele end. Now THIS comes and VOILA! Sigma made my dream everyday zoom lens! It will fit nicely with the 14-24/2.8 and the new 120-300/2.8 (when it comes). A holly trinity of zooms from 14mm to 300mm with a steady f/2.8! We live in great times!

Can you explain to me about the "maximum magnification Ratio" parameter in the macro? In general, the essence is clear, all these figures are the multiplicity of magnification of the object relative to the real size, I no longer understand these figures in the characteristics of the lenses. For example, here it is on Sigma 28-45 equal to 1:4, i.e. magnification by 4 times at a focal length of 45 mm from a distance of 30 cm. Immediately we look at the parameters of the released 28-105, 105 mm from a distance of 40 cm, an increase of 1:3.1 times. That's how? 105 mm already magnifies the image by 2.33 times compared to 45 mm. Yes, the minimum distance on the first lens one is 30 cm, on the other 40 mm, but this difference is 1.33 times. So I don't quite understand how 28-45 has a macro mode better than 28-105?

I have the 24- 7o mm f2.8 Sigma, the 24-105 f4 Panasonic and the Sigma 105 f2.8 macro for my S5 & S5 MKII so as much as I like the lens, I would most likely sell the 24 - 105 but the f4 is more compact so I don't know if I will.

I’m a Nikon guy and while this lens isn’t made for it…. Thanks for the review, always enjoy your videos and it was good to see Raymond this time around. Midrange zoom for me is the Nikon 24-120 f/4. Also, since I’m not spending the money, I’m going to encourage you to get the medium format Fuji!!! And buy this lens for Raymond, it’s a win win!

Extend the standard lens towards wide not tele. 20-60mm and 60-180mm should be the standard zooms.

Great review. This is the type of lens that ends up spending the most time on my camera. As I suspect it does for many photographers. Great portraits of Leigh and Raimon!

This would be a perfect all-in-one lens for events or for my dance photography when it is available for the Nikon Z mount. The only other lens that I would need in a pinch is my Nikon (Tamron) 17-28mm 2.8. No more changing lenses!

Great points mentioned in the review. Range is over looked with everyone going for 24-70mm.I still think my nikon 18-105mm on my d500 is more versatile.

Good question. Most of my Grand Canyon photos in my last video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3yXkneOeduLpdk) were captured with a 35mm equivalent lens... but I love the flexibility of this Sigma zoom to go wider. Maybe the Tamron zoom and a wide Sigma Contemporary prime? I have the 20mm f/2 and adore it (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYaTg5WJoq93osk). There are so many options!
