NEW SILAGE COVER IS FINALLY OPEN!!!... Alan Clyde & John McClean | FarmFLiX

John gives Alan a hand on the farm to open the new silage cover. Has the silagesafe system made a difference? The boys are a bit slow taking the cover off, too busy talking nonsense and throwing tyre's at each other but how good a job did the buckrake man do and the John Deere tractor that rolled it. Alan is not the average farmer and if its good enough for the cattle and sheep, its good enough for him to eat .

I don't know if Alan sharpens his shear grab but it makes one hell of a difference I used to work on a 700 head dairy farm and used to sharpen ours every other week with a hand file 👍

Used to be a thing 20 year ago farmers used to put salt around and over maize pits... some farmers in New Zealand still do

Nice quality silage. Would a shear bucket be an idea instead of the shear grap. No bits falling about the yard and you can load meal with it.

We often put salt on whole crop but I believed it was more to deter rats, mice and birds from getting a taste of the grain.

The great unveiling! It looked real good, no manky sides, Alan risked eating some and the sheep liked it, I'd say the green sheets were a success. Alan has lost some weight has he got any tips? Though I draw the line at eating silage!, lol.

I've seen lads putting salt around the sides of maize pits before alright. What I've seen to be a very good job to seal the ramp on silage pits is to cover it in round bales. Done it on a maize pit before. Covered 90% of the pit in bales and had more or less zero waste. Great job.
